Review
"I loved this book. All of the characters feel like old friends to me. You love (and hate!) all of them the more you read. I feel like the pacing and setup was absolutely perfect and the writing was sophisticated and engaging. Not only that, the story definitely caught and held my attention! This isn't your typical romance novel - it also includes intrigue!"

About the author

First, let me say - I didn’t set out to become a writer. I was too busy running — literally.
At fourteen, I was a competitive runner with my eyes on the finish line… until a friend (bless his clumsy soul) accidentally shattered my knee and my athletic dreams in one fell swoop. Overnight, I went from racing tracks to lying flat on my back, trapped beneath a fortress of blankets and a towering stack of Harlequin romances.
My dad took one look at those bodice-rippers scattered across my bed, said nothing, and disappeared — only to return moments later, drop a book onto my lap, and declare: “You need to broaden your reading horizons.” The book was Iceberg by Clive Cussler. And just like that, my fate was sealed. Dirk Pitt became my new hero. Adventure, mystery, danger — all danced off the page and straight into my imagination. While my knee healed, a new dream took shape: I wanted to whisk readers away on thrilling journeys of their own.
So here I am: a writer fueled by a twist of fate, a determined dad, and the legendary Clive Cussler. And while I may not be sprinting down tracks anymore, I’m still chasing stories — and loving every second of the race.
It means the world to have you here with me. May my stories spark your imagination as wildly as they've sparked mine.

I will be checking out more of Barbara Woster's books because I love the writing style.
If you're looking for a romance novel that has a well thought out story and characters that feel like real people, DEFINITELY buy this book
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAfter the death of their spouses and children, wealthy ranch owner Dalian Rivers and novelist Kathryn McMurray can’t imagine themselves falling in love ever again. But when Kat takes an extended eight-week vacation at Dalian’s ranch, they immediately catch each other’s eyes. Dalian is determined to have her. Kat is terrified of her intense feelings for him and wants nothing but to resist and enjoy her vacation.
In the meantime, there are others after their hearts and their fortunes, and eventually, things turn violent.
This book started out really strong but eventually weakened into something more like a Hallmark cowboy romance. The tension between the characters is certainly palpable as Dalian and Kat play cat and mouse with each other. Just when the romance narrative is about to lose its steam, the suspense/mystery narrative takes over.
For a book written in third person omniscient, with the narrator jumping in and out of character perspectives, the story mostly carries on the tension of the story pretty well . . . until it doesn’t. Unfortunately, the narrator does end up revealing things prematurely and thus we end up watching characters try to solve a mystery we already know the answer to.
Overall, I do feel the characters had more room for character growth, and I still can’t fathom why this story takes place in the future, but if you like Hallmark movies with a bit of suspense, this book may be for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe characters are interesting and believable and the plot draws you in. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and reading "just one more page" to find out what is coming next. This was my first read from this author, but it will certainly not be my last.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWell written. Lots of plott twist held my interest. Well written charecters. Enjoyed the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2020Format: KindleIt's obvious this author knows how to write. The book has clever little twist at the very end and the story is easy to follow. This is written for the year 2060 although it reads as though the plot and characters are set in 1950s where men are MEN and women... instead of being able to help out with a hammer... are consigned to the kitchen on the ranch where they belong.
I would have liked to seen stronger female characters. While this is a romance novel, all the female characters are helpless/not reliant on their brains. I would have expected in a world in 30 years down the road, a woman wouldn't feel uncomfortable because she's in a room full of detectives...who of course are all men. The setting is a dude ranch where (again it's in the future) surprise! there are two women and one is a lingerie model trying to snare a rich man because she is too old to be a successful model.
This is a nice bedtime book. Would love to see this author take on another novel but bring the women in this century.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2020Format: KindleThe author, Barbara Woster, has done a great job of knitting romance with the many twists-turns of drama, intrigue, and steamy scenes. An extremely enjoyable read that kept me interested to the very end. Classic portrayal of the protagonists, great plot, and lovely scenarios.
Loved it
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2020Format: KindleI enjoyed this story! It has an intriguing mix of tragic pasts, high stakes and cute and cleverly-written romantic moments. I also love the dude ranch/cowboy aspect of the story, and I think that aspect is extremely well-written. I would have liked to see Kat stand strong against Dalian’s advances and show more of her tough cookie side, though. It felt like Kat was always blushing, flustered or getting interrupted/overridden when she talked to Dalian, or even being flat-out ignored. I like alpha male types just fine (and Dalian is very much so an alpha male), but I also like a strong female character who challenges the alpha male instead of falling head over heels for him at first sight and letting him push the relationship along. That being said, though, I’m glad I read the book and I would recommend it to others!

I found the story of Kat and Dalian very interesting. It's about finding strength and love in tough times. The way they face challenges together really moved me. The writing is clear and the emotions feel real, making it a compelling read. Great for anyone who likes seeing characters overcome obstacles and find joy.
