Ally Shields was born and raised in the US Midwest, along the Mississippi River, and considers herself a "river rat." The area and its rich folklore provide the background for her urban fantasy novels. After a career in law and juvenile justice, she writes full time and lives near Des Moines, Iowa, with her Siamese cat, Latte, and a Min Pin puppy, Pippin. If not writing, reading, or visiting family, she is probably traveling and often includes those locations in her stories.

Ally belongs to Sisters-in-Crime, MFRW, and several online writers' groups. She also writes Regency mysteries under the name of J. L. Buck (http://janetlbuck.com).

    I was going thru my old book purchases from 2013/2014 and discovered the second editions of this amazing series. It was one of my favorites back then and even more so now with these revised editions. This series is truly a hidden gem and I highly recommend it.

    I had the pleasure of reading Awakening the Fire in its first edition. Ally got back her rights and took a wonderful story and made it even better as an independently published second edition. So of course I bought it again. YAY!! I'm so glad she's brought back Arianna.

    From the book's opening, I was back in a world that is a little bit scary, a lot exciting, and all the way adventurous. Can you imagine being a first responder like Arianna who deals with werewolves, vampires and more instead of human criminals? Talk about never a dull moment. And then add in her sexy new maybe-boyfriend. He may be used to ordering around everyone around him, but that was before he met Arianna!
