Shirley Read-Jahn was born during World War II and educated in England before becoming a hippy and living in an ancient Roman burial tomb in Matala, Crete. She went on to take up many different colourful careers, including swimwear model, interpreter, landscape gardener, paralegal and events organiser. She also co-founded the highly-successful San Francisco Jazz Festival as well as running her own landscape business in the United States.

Shirley has belly-danced since her thirties, still plays table-tennis, and now lives in Australia. In retirement, she has finally found time to devote to her passion for writing and the books swirling around in her head.

    I had the of meeting Shirley a couple of months before she moved to Australia, and we became pen pals afterwards. I recognized so many stories, especially in Part 2, that she had told me. I am in awe of her lifelong confidence and courage. I wouldn't have a clue how to even begin to do the things she did--the careers and the world travel. She is so blessed to have such a sense of humor, which draws people to her. I am also impressed that she had the patience and discipline to write, not just her autobiography, but so many other books, and she's not done yet! She is a true inspiration for us all.

    This was the question I kept asking myself as I read Volume 2 of Shirley Read-Jahn's Dancing Through Life. It's an extraordinary account of an extraordinary life, which the author has generously shared in sparkling detail. Good times, bad--all are literally danced through, turning the past into a tale that entertains and inspires.

    I won Dancing Through Life, Volume 2 in a draw, and while I know I should have read the first book before starting this one, I peeked into it and just got hooked. The author, Shirley, Read-Jahn has led a fascinating and rich life and seems to have an amazing amount of energy. Although not particularly lucky in love, she has picked herself up and started again time and again with zest and enthusiasm. I loved the descriptions of the music events and the people she met and admired her ability to establish a new business in gardening when life threw lemons at her.

    This book is very well written and engaging in style. There are photos as well, which give great visual support to the events she writes about. Given that she embarked on a new career when she'd already turned sixty, I am now wondering what she's got up her sleeve next. I'm also keen to read the first book, as that sounds equally fascinating. Well done, Shirley Read-Jahn and three cheers for your wonderful spirit!

    After reading Shirley's first memoir detailing her early life and marriage, I was eager to see where fortune led her. I wasn't disappointed. What a rich life, populated with more than one marriage; friends, celebrities and such varied occupations as running jazz festivals and designing gardens. I enjoyed following Shirley through her middle years and into retirement - of a sort. A new career beckons, and which country will she decide to reside in and with whom? Well you'll have to enjoy the ride to find out.

    From start to finish I was enthralled. Shirley's obvious joie de vie shines through on page after page. From her early life Shirley felt special in some way, she certainly is, what an exciting life she has led,with her many and varied colourful careers.Her well travelled exploits from cave dwelling to gaining 3 different citizenships are wonderfully detailed.Shirley addresses her relationships,marriages and lifelong friendships made during her busy adventurous life. Now retired but still more active than some half her age, Shirleys passion for writing is clearly evident in this , the second volume of her delightful Dancing through Life memoir.
