About the authors

I’ve always loved mysteries, especially those involving Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. Perhaps because Miss Marple reminds me of my aunts when I was growing up. But Agatha never told us much about Miss Marple's earlier life. While writing my own elderly super-sleuth series, I’m tracing her career from the start. As you’ll see, if you follow the Miss Riddell Cozy Mysteries series.
However, this is my Bio, not Miss Riddell’s, so here goes with all you need to know about me: After retiring, I became a writer and when I’m not feverishly typing on my laptop, you’ll find me running, cycling, walking, and taking wildlife photos wherever and whenever I can. My cozy mystery series begins in northern England because that was my home growing up and that’s also the home of so many great cozy mysteries. Stay with me though because Miss Riddell loves to travel as much as I do and the stories will take us to the many different places around the world I’ve lived in or visited.

Kathryn Mykel is an award-winning cozy mystery author and quilt pattern designer known for stitching together lighthearted whodunits with a crafty twist.
Her bestselling series—including Sewing Suspicion, Quilting Calamity, and Beach Brawl—feature quirky sleuths, small-town charm, and just enough mayhem to keep you guessing (and giggling). If you love fat quarters, feline sidekicks, or murder with a touch of humor, her books are made for you.
Inspired by her own love of quilting and raised in a small New England town, Kathryn blends clever mysteries with the warmth of handmade traditions. She also designs quilt patterns at Dragonfly’s Quilting Design Studio.
Follow her for new releases, printables, and behind-the-scenes peeks into her fictional worlds.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a fun book Mary is hired to train the current Debutantes to meet the Queen. She moves to her home in London and starts the training and is surprised that one of the girls is a Princess from a foreign country. The previous woman in charge died under mysterious circumstances so she does investigate. I enjoyed this story and I felt like I was there. Drama, mystery and death a very fun read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2023Format: KindleVerified Purchase4.5 stars from me! This book is perfectly delightful, and neither fluffy nor boring. I will definitely read the others.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLady Snodsbury is struggling with the cost of living in mid-century Britain. The widowed duchess is about to find a job to keep her estates and loyal retainers afloat.
Rescue comes with an offer from BuckIngham Palace. She is asked to prepare 50 debutantes for presentation to the Queen. But danger lurks in London and she and her butler and cook must revive their sleuthing skills with the help of three of her ladyship's proteges. What follows is a tangle of murder, assault and international intrigue in a plot reminiscent of Agatha Christie. The authors have a light touch with their characters and evoke the charms of the English gentry facing a world of change.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI wish the product description had mentioned that this is a middle-school level book. I got it thinking it was for everyone. CNF. The writing is awkward -- really could have used a professional editor -- and I was surprised to find that the main character wasn't in her, oh, late seventies or even eighties, as she is dodderingly portrayed (I was wondering why the daughters of her childhood friends were all so young), but rather somewhere around 51.
I am also confused as to why a duchess is referred to both as "your grace" and "Lady Mary." Perhaps I need to study British titles more, but I thought duchesses introduced themselves as duchesses and not as ladies. Oh well, the important thing is that this is not an adult-level book. (And it really, really needs a good edit!)
If you want to read enthralling mysteries involving royals, try S.J. Bennet's trilogy where an aged Queen Elizabeth II and her aide solve mysteries.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHaving read all of P.J. James previous Cozy Mysteries I find his new breakout book co-written with Kathryn Mykel a fabulous read . All their research into how these young women came to meet the Queen was interesting and the mystery in the story line was believable. I just enjoyed the entire book. This mystery was well thought out and I really enjoyed the way Lady Mary's Corgy behaved. He is a truly believable dog and part of the 'sleuth team'. Our neighbors have a Corgy and she acts so much like Barkley! So he is true to his nature. I look forward to all the upcoming books and will continue reading them. These are great gifts for friends and family.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2023Format: KindlePush passed the first few chapters, let any questions you might have about her past ‘cases’ and enjoy the intrigue that Lady Mary finds herself in the late 1950’s. Times are changing and so are the debutantes she’s been tasked with whipping into shape to meet the Queen. With her predecessor having left the job due to...being murdered...right from the start our feisty heroine is on the look out for mischief and more and it’s well worth your time to see what she finds out! A entertaining first installment in this co written detective series!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt’s the 1950’s and Lady Mary has been summoned by the palace secretary to prepare a group of young ladies to be presented to the Queen in a months time at Queen Charlotte’s Ball. There are 49 ladies and one foreign princess, for Mary to teach the 3 D’s: Deportment, Discipline and Dancing! Lady Mary and her faithful butler and fellow detective, Ponsonby, and Cook head to Culpeper House, the London home of the Snodbury’s. But from the start there is something off about Princess Jezebel. Mary, Ponsonby, and her royal corgi, Barkley investigate, in this slightly tongue-in-cheek and delightful mystery. I received a free copy o from the author and write this review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2022Format: KindleI have to admit; the book didn’t grab me at first, but as I enjoy P.C. James’ Miss Riddell series, I gave it a chance and it rewarded me with an enjoyable diversion into British nobility in the 1950s. A mystery to solve and an enjoyable read; my favorite things. The characters are entertaining, and the story contains many twists and turns along the way. (I received an advance reader copy of this book, and this is my honest review.)

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHaving just finished the first book, I can tell you that this series could and should go on for years to come. It's a delightful bit of writing as ever you could wish for! The Authors need to get very busy, very soon as having to wait until September is just far too long for the next book ! ;( !
Miss ClarkeReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 31, 20234.0 out of 5 stars A fun read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe story, although interesting, is slow to begin with, picks up in the middle and then goes flat at the end. Furthermore, if Mary is a duchess then she should not be referred to as Lady Mary (the title of lower ranked females). The characters are very likable, but I disliked the American spellings. A good book but by no means no great.
