Christmas Trees and Mistletoe : A Later-in-Life Second Chance Romance (The Shops at Sunshine Bay) Kindle Edition
After her divorce, Kathleen thought she’d finally found her fresh start—new town, new toy store, and time with her granddaughters. But when the shop’s finances spiral and her daughter is called away on an emergency, Kathleen suddenly finds herself juggling full-time childcare, a struggling business… and her biggest challenge yet:
Roy.
Her granddaughters’ other grandfather is charming, infuriating, and completely convinced he knows best. And worse? The girls adore him.
Roy isn’t thrilled either. Sure, he promised his son he’d step up, but Kathleen is bossy, stubborn, and impossible to ignore. Unfortunately, so is the way she makes his heart beat faster.
They’ve both loved and lost. But as snow begins to fall, old wounds thaw… and what started as a rivalry just might turn into something more.
Can the magic of the season help them find peace, forgiveness—and maybe even love?
A heartwarming holiday romance about second chances, blended families, and believing in love when you least expect it. Perfect for fans of stories with warmth, wit, and a dash of holiday cheer.

Jeanine Lauren is a USA Today bestselling author who crafts heartwarming women’s fiction and sweet romances, blending friendship, love, and second chances. Though she spent much of her life writing for work, school, and those never-ending to-do lists (admit it, we all have them), Jeanine found her true passion in creating stories that feel like coming home.
In 2019, she took a leap and published Love’s Fresh Start, the first book in her Sunshine Bay series, and she’s been making up for lost time ever since, bringing readers back to this beloved small town for stories filled with warmth and possibility.
Jeanine lives near the breathtaking coastline of British Columbia, not far from the fictional town of Sunshine Bay, where love and community are always in season. - Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2022Format: KindleChristmas Trees and Mistletoe is the type of love story I like to read when the holidays come around. It's big on family, holiday cheer and good, clean romance. And if you enjoy reading about more mature couples, that will be a plus as the couple in this book are older.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2022Format: KindleWhen they were younger, Kathleen and Roy were best friends. Then, Lois moved to town and joined the two friends. Kathleen and Lois were best friends, but then Lois got together with Roy and Kathleen ended their friendship. Now, her daughter, Nicole, is married to his son, Jason. They have a medical practice and are chosen to go provide aid in Italy after an earthquake. They need Roy and her to care for their two ten year old daughters while they are gone. They don’t tell them they want them to help each other. Grab your copy and see what happens and if the truth will be revealed as to why Kathleen distanced herself from Lois and Roy.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2022Format: KindleA charming Christmastime story that involves former childhood best friends who, at the end of high school, went separate ways due to a big misunderstanding that Roy could never figure out.
As Kathleen and Roy are thrown together to co-parent their granddaughters for about a month, they resist having to be together and to compromise.
It is an amusing story and a bit of intrigue as the issue of conflict is not revealed for quite a while. It is a wonderful story of second chances for love. I loved it when Roy was able to "save the day" with his secret solution to Kathleen's problem.
Love sweet, clean, Christmas stories? Then you will enjoy this!
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2022Format: KindleLoved this cute story. Kathleen had a bad marriage to her husband Chris for 32 years. He messed around on her. She is now living in Sunshine Bay and owns a toy store. Her daughter Nicole and son-in-law Jason are both doctors and they get called away to help with an earthquake. They ask Kathleen to take care of their ten year old twin daughters. Lo and behold when she gets to the house Jason’s father is already there. They were childhood friends but no more. It was great seeing how two old acquaintances can actually bury the hatchet and start all over. Great uplifting fun story.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022Format: KindleChristmas Trees and Mistletoe is a novella by Jeanine Lauren. I really enjoyed this book. Kathleen and Roy were once friends but after Roy married Lois, they could not stand each other. Years later, when their children married each other, because of their children and grandchildren, they were civil. When their children leave for medical rescue in Italy, the grandparents are left in charge of the twin granddaughters. I--widowed Roy, 1--divorced Kathleen, tons of sparks. This holiday story was wonderful and a great way to spend the afternoon. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2022Format: KindleThis book is a sweet Christmas gift to the reader. I love that it’s a holiday story for the over 50 crowd. Kathleen and Roy were best friends growing up. Then they didn’t speak for decades and now are related through marriage. What does this mean for them and their families? Will they get past old hurts and misunderstandings to find a way back to being friends again?
I recommend this book to all who enjoy reading Christmas love stories during the holidays… or anytime!

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this book, wasn’t too long, so was quite to the point. The ending was quite rapid, but still wrapped everything up. It seems that this author doesn’t have any other books on Kindle, just paperback or hard copy so probably won’t get anymore.
