- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really love this series. Hopefully there will be more in the near future.
Enjoy the grandmother. He presence in the story made this such a joyful experience of wisdom being shared and learned from. She was fierce and also loving.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was well done. Good plot, good pacing. The sex scenes were tasteful and didn’t overshadow the story itself. The characters were likeable and the dialogue between them flowed smoothly. There wasn’t a ton of fight scenes which personally I like. This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author alone and I would recommend it. I went onto my 2nd book. As long as she continues in the fated mates world I will definitely be reading more by Ms Grayson
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2021Format: KindleThe writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was okay, though I wish we had gotten a better immersion in the landscape and culture of the hero’s home world. The characterization was good, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet and romantic. This novel had a heat level of two chili peppers, since it was such a slow burn. The plot had exciting elements, but the stakes felt pretty low throughout most of this novel, which made the pacing drag a bit. The angst of the hero lying to and making decisions that affected the heroine without consulting her wishes was excruciating to read, but thankfully did not last long. I personally felt it would have been a better novel without the poorly executed angst. This novel had the Fated Mates trope and the Stranger in a Strange Land trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were three and a half stars. The characterization was four stars and the development of the romantic relationship was three stars, due to the poorly executed relationship angst. I therefore rounded up and gave this novel a combined rating of four stars, since I did enjoy it despite the problems. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sweet, romantic slow burn romances. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will probably not buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.
I received a free advance review copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI think this book out if this series is my favorite. I’m so glad Jessica gave Al’aneo his own story. I really liked his character. Jessica your books just keep getting better and better. I highly recommend this book and others in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed reading this story. It was full of deep thoughts and wonder. Each of the couple overcome pasts that have pain and loss.
My favorite line in the book, "Life is so short. I understand now that only after experiencing sadness can we truly know what joy means."
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was hoping for chocolate souffle, but I got a chocolate bar.
This book had tons of potential. Strong doctor stolen from home and enslaved by evil aliens for her blood.
The characters were wooden and stilted minus Ama. The plot had so much potential but stuttered often due to missing emotional investment.
I wanted to care about them. I wanted to cheer them on, but it felt like I was watching TV on mute. The author gave me a story but it was missing drama, emotional depth, believable characters, and smart plot choices.
Drama and emotional depth, what was I missing? So much supposedly happened to the woman and happens to her during the book. But it's like she's experiencing it all on a sedative. I experience some fear, sadness, and wonder with her. I don't experience joy, love, passion, hate, anger, grief, or excitement.
Drama, even traumatic stuff feels ho-hum. There's going to be an attack. Does the hero jump into action or warn those present that danger could be coming? No. He calls his ship to scan for trouble.
There are some sweet scenes but they don't bring this up higher than a 2.5 stars rounding up to 3 stars.
Grammar is better than average. Characters didn't always make sense. Holly is a doctor, but she seems really uninterested in her own health after the Angius bite. She never asks to see her own scans or discuss what exactly the MRU does. She doesn't mention studying her blood or tissue to help determine why she survived the Angius venom. She doesn't argue when another character feels she can't help at an attack site. Doctors onsite at disasters can save lives and triage survivors to help efficiently treat massive numbers of injured people.
Hope the next read is better. I would like to see this author develop into a new favorite.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a quick fun read which is incredibly well written, and nicely put together. I was thrilled to discover that the author found her MOJO again after the disappointingly tragic V'loryn Series. I would highly recommend ALL of the author's other books! Do yourself a favor, and check this author out.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2021Format: KindleA'leano and Holly couldn't be more different one a Fae on a mission to save and rescue those on a slaver ship Holly a doctor who has suffered at the hands of her captors is slow to trust even if the man who rescues her is the same one she has had dreams of. A'leano knows Holly is his fated mate but one little lie could keep them apart. This was well written a little slow in the beginning has some angst and a slow romance with a HEA ending.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
