Easy Living: a story about life after death, after death, after death...: an intriguing and romantic mystery about life after death Kindle Edition
“A cracking good read that addresses THE big question.”
“This is not like anything you've ever read before! It is fascinating, fast moving and keeps you guessing from the first page to the last.”
What really happens when we die?
Jane Cooper is about to find out.
There she is, lying in hospital having suffered a terrible accident months before when her nearest and dearest decide to pull the plug. One minute she’s in the hospital bed, enjoying her music and thinking about life, and the next she’s floating through the air with no sign of her body.
Still, at least she isn’t alone. There’s John, and Sasha and Freddie, all of whom share the same body-less state and died prematurely. Each of them is trying to hold onto their tenuous link with the living world, and this stops them entering the true afterlife.
The mysterious Presence tells them they need to explore the true circumstances of their deaths if they are ever to move on. And that means coming back to life via a bit of body borrowing.
Blending cosy mystery with a generous dose of paranormal romance and historical fiction, this story takes us on a journey through the 1920s, 1950s and finally the present day. Along the way, there will be discovery, understanding, forgiveness and a healthy bit of Karma.
Easy Living: a story about life after death, after death, after death... is a whirlwind ride that explores life’s biggest question, and provides a thought-provoking, beautiful answer.
Please note: contains sexual references and strong language.
From Caron Allan, the author of Criss Cross, Cross Check, and Check Mate, the Friendship Can Be Murder series, and the popular 1930s cosy mystery series, the Dottie Manderson mysteries.

All the world seemed to have fallen on its side. There was so much noise I couldn’t understand what was going on, and yet it seemed too quiet for me to hear what was being said. So chaotic. Yet this was all in some sense familiar.
The distraught driver of the charabanc was saying: ‘She just stepped out in front of me, there wasn’t no time…’ And someone, the one I knew was Freddie, was shushing him gently and telling him he wasn’t to blame, it was just an accident.
Everything around me was darkening. And there was Alice’s hat lying in the middle of the road, getting dirty. A voice was speaking to me softly, persistently. I forced myself to look up to see John kneeling over me. His voice was warm and clear and the same as ever. His fingers stroked my cheek and temple with infinite gentleness. I saw for the first time that his eyes were dark and full of anxiety. He bent his head to look down at my hands as he reached for them to comfort me.
He was deathly pale but he spoke calmly. ‘An ambulance is on its way, Jane, but I don’t think you’re going to come out of this. It doesn’t look good.’ He paused, and swallowed.
‘It’s always a car…’ I told him, trying to laugh, but my voice croaking.

About the Author
Like many writers, Caron always wanted to write stories. She can remember announcing this to her mother when she was eight years old. Caron says, 'I seem to remember she wasn't overly impressed.'
Caron started reading adventure stories and mysteries for children when she was around 7 or 8 and graduated to Agatha Christie and Patricia Wentworth (her faves) when around 9 or 10. She has never looked back.
Caron has tried writing literary fiction - and says she was terrible at it. She has tried writing romance but got bored and killed everyone off. So now she sticks to what she loves - murder mysteries.
The Dottie Manderson mysteries are set in the 1930s and feature Dottie, a terminally-nosy well-to-do young woman, book 1 is called Night and Day. The Friendship Can Be Murder series are set 'now' and written as diary entries by a posh woman, Cressida Barker-Powell, who has a low tolerance for bad people, and plans to begin with her mother-in-law. The new series The Miss Gascoigne Mysteries set in the 'swinging sixties' debuted in 2022 with book 1: A Meeting With Murder.

It takes a completely fluid imagination
to not only come up with the concept
but to also make the whole idea plausible and extremely
enjoyable. Thank you Ms. Allan!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt starts off quick and never blows downside for. I feel like I have known each character for a long time. Each time I thought I knew where the story was going, it would take an unexpected twist.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2022Format: Kindleafter finishing the first part I decided not to continue, it was just all so contrived and unbelievable. I don't think a first-time mom would choose to hang instead of admitting her husband had depression and killed himself thus being separated from her child forever. Nor do I think it reasonable that after discovering this the gang didn't try to "haunt" the prosecutor to try and show him the error of his ways. His railroading got an innocent woman killed and they were just hunky-dory to carry on and travel to the 50s.

Katie CookReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 29, 20195.0 out of 5 stars Cracking good read that addresses THE big question
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAll of us wonder what happens when we die, even the atheists among us and I love the concept of Easy Living which explores this big question.
I found the book an easy read and read it all in one go, wondering what each of the characters would find when they went back to investigate the circumstances of their deaths.
The times feel authentic—the 20s, 50s and the present day with plenty of nice details added, especially for the main character who finds out what life was like for the generations before her. There’s a strong message about tolerance and acceptance, which really resonated. I’m also a sucker for vintage clothing, and I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of 20s and 50s clothing.
I loved Sasha and Freddie, and was especially pleased with that happened to them at the end of the book…
Please note—the book does contain occasional strong language (not that much, though) and a little bit of sexual content. It doesn’t bother me, but I know some readers prefer to avoid this.
