Driven to Distraction: A Tenhamshire Comedy Kindle Edition
That's what Shauna, the acerbic courier tells Derek Noble on day one of the so-called luxury coach holiday he's booked himself onto, when she arrives on a clapped-out coach with a driver at the wheel who Derek believes might actually be partially-sighted.
After an eventful journey down to rural Tenhamshire, Derek and his fellow passengers arrive at a rather rundown guest house, owned by the neurotic Mrs Goddard whose staff need either some happy pills, a leg-over, or directions to the nearest retirement home.
Thank God for Angela, the only member of the group preventing Derek from making a run for home. She makes the holiday bearable as they move from one humorously, ill-fated excursion to another across the week.
But perhaps there's more to the other colourful characters on this trip than meets the eye. Amid such events as a boat tour with a pornographic commentary, a ferocious board game evening, and the group's eviction from an amusement arcade, secrets and stories are revealed and Derek soon realises that, life for him after this coach trip, will never be the same again.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed reading this book a lot. It was a lot different from the stories I usually read but was interesting. Everybody having their own problems , trying to work it out and just bringing more heartache.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2017Format: KindleVerified Purchase"Your lives, your secrets, they'll all be revealed eventually. It always happens on a coach trip."
So promises Shauna, the snarky tour guide on Derek Noble's bus trip to Tenhamshire.
Still reeling from his divorce, Derek needs to get away from it all. His wife had always chosen their holidays in the past, but Derek thought this excursion sounded like fun. Derek was wrong. Now he's going to be spending a week motoring around the English countryside with a group of insane people he'd rather have never met. There is one woman on the bus, however, that Derek would like to get to know
better . . .
This one was a rowdy, bawdy adventure from beginning to end. Bone proves himself a master of double entendre, as his characters offer up one embarrassing "boner" after another. It turns out that Shauna may have been right after all. Secrets are revealed, and not everything is as it
appears. Derek may return home with a deeper understanding of his fellow human beings. Or maybe just with some bottles of overpriced wine he never wanted in the first place.
I recommend you STAY HOME and read this one. Holidays are overrated.

Kindle CustomerReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 9, 20194.0 out of 5 stars Good fun!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a very enjoyable read, a mixture of belly laughs and pathos. The characters were all believable and very interesting and the plot was well constructed and devilishly funny. That said, it did include an element of sadness but that only served to enrich the story. Well recommended!
VBReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 6, 20213.0 out of 5 stars Comical caper but the language used spoilt the book for me
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe plot of this book is realistic, and the individual characters are believable as extreme caricatures of humanity. The events and issues which crop up during the week of the coach holiday could happen to anyone. There are many points in this book which made me laugh, but there are also times when the character stereotyping and the language used (vulgar slang, swearing, blasphemy) was so repetitive it spoilt my enjoyment. I'm my sure I will read any more books by this author but I believe many readers would enjoy it.
Georgia WReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 6, 20205.0 out of 5 stars Had me laughing out loud from the first page!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first ever comedy book I’ve ever read and let’s just say I was not left disappointed! Not only did it make me laugh out loud on several occasions, but I really appreciated the underlying message, elements of mystery and heartfelt moments too. I’ve really fallen in love with all of the characters and can’t wait to read the sequels to see more of them. Overall, this is a feel good book that I highly recommend to anyone who needs a good laugh during this dreadful pandemic. Also would recommend to anyone who is a fan of the film Carry On Abroad, it definitely has a similar vibe!
