Review
"Dear Master Dragon,I know you are very busy with lots of problems to solve for other dragons. But,could you PLEASE answer my letter?" Poor Danny Dragon,he has many problems and he just doesn't know what to do. The only choice heknew was to write this letter to the Master Dragonto see if he could get some much needed help. But were Danny'sproblems enough to get Master Dragon to contact this youngdragon? Would Danny find out what itis like to be a real dragon? That's why you need to read this book, because allof the answers are here in Dear Master Dragon by Alva Sachs.
Dear Master Dragon is a really cute little book forchildren about dragons. The book is formatted like a comic book, with lovelyblack and white drawings of Danny Dragon and his family that can becolored by the young reader. I love the adorable dragon figures throughout thebook. The baby dragon pictures are so very sweet and cuddly, and the picturesof the dragon kids playing are charming. I'm really not a dragon fan, but Ifound myself falling in love with Dannyand his dragon family. And a unique thing about this book is that the authoradded a few pages that are left blank so children can draw their own dragonpictures to color. I love this idea because it makes the book come alive andmore personal to children. I highly recommend this precious book of dragons. And remember, you will find out if the Master Dragon contacts Dannywhen you read Dear Master Dragon.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2013Format: PaperbackDear Master Dragon by Alva Sachs is a creative and fun story that will help kids to overcome everyday obstacles that are associated with being a kid.
The story begins by Danny Dragon writing a letter to The Master Dragon to assist him with his problem of not being able to fly or breathe fire like the other dragons.
Danny’s inability to participate in the normal activities of his dragon friends causes him to alienate himself from them until he decides to change his attitude.
Sachs writes, “THE NEXT MORNING, DANNY THOUGHT, ‘TODAY will be different.’ HE QUICKLY ATE HIS BREAKFAST, GATHERED HIS SCHOOL STUFF, AND HUGGED HIS DAD AND MOM GOODBYE.”
My favorite part is when Danny uses the motivation from his new and positive attitude to practice in the areas that he needs improvement in.
The author writes, “AFTER SCHOOL, DANNY SPIED A HUGE ROCK. PERCHING HIMSELF ON THE ROCK, DANNY BENT HIS KNEES, TUCKED HIS WINGS TO HIS SIDES , CLOSED HIS EYES, AND PUSHED HIMSELF UP TOWARDS THE SKY.”
Danny Dragons decision to change his attitude ultimately gave him the power to start developing himself, take action and persist until he finally achieved his goal.
Kids will learn from Sachs’ book that anything is possible with a positive attitude and the proper work ethic. In addition, the book touches on the power of friendship and how it can benefit to allow others to help you with their knowledge and abilities.
One of the unique features of the book is that it’s written in comic book format and designed so that kids can color each page.
I feel that this book would be an asset to all children.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2013Format: PaperbackDear Master Dragon is a comic coloring book story that entices children to use their imagination to create colorfully detailed images to accompany the story that unfolds on each page.
Danny Dragon needs help. He is unable to fly or make fire like all of the other dragons. He decides to write a letter to The Master Dragon for advice. Danny eagerly awaits The Master Dragon's reply, but in the meantime he does his best of avoid the other dragons and ends up missing out on a whole lot of fun. Can Danny overcome his challenges and learn to confide in others?
Dear Master Dragon is a charming tale that uses a innovative concept to involve readers in creating a story that is uniquely their own. The illustrations are outlined on each page, but are free from color, making it virtually a blank slate. While children are having fun designing their masterpieces they will also learn about Danny Dragon and the great things that can happen when we decide to face difficulties head on.
I highly recommend picking up Dear Master Dragon.
