I think you'll find Keane quite an enigmatic hero. How can you not adore a man who rescues two Scottish wildcat kittens before their eyes are even opened? I won't give too much away, but those cats play important roles in the story.

    This book was stellar. I loved everything about it. It had some angst, mystery, and a love story that was a little steamy and done with good taste.

    Marjorie Kennedy is a widow and the mother of two little girls. We meet her in the third book To Seduce a Highland Scoundrel. Her husband, Sion, was Graeme Kennedy's brother and I really thought she had feelings for Graeme, even when Berget came onto the scene. She was never rude or insolent with Berget and they became good friends. But when she met Keane Buchannan, well, that changed everything for her. She resented his comments about her children and that soured her on him in every capacity.

    When the Kennedy's are invited to Hogmanay festivities at Keane's, who is actually an estranged cousin with whom they are trying to repair the relationship that's been broken for a long time and had nothing to do with their generation, Marjorie is tempted to stay home, but she didn't want to make any waves and goes along out of duty.

    Keane had been enamored with Marjorie from the first time he met her four months before they arrived at his place. He'd attended a social function at the Kennedy's where he'd run his mouth reckless and had offended Marjorie. He had to make that up to her, but he wanted to. He had feelings for her that he didn't want to admit he had for a variety of reasons...some dark reasons.

    I liked this book for more than a few reasons, but what stood out for me was the fact that Marjorie didn't play the wronged widow. She wasn't haughty or angry and was receptive to Keane. Sion had been gone for three years and she was happy being the mother to his children, but she was lonely.

    Keane knew she'd loved her husband and was patient with her. He never forced her into anything or tried to make her feel guilty. He brought out feelings in her that she didn't know she had and ramped up the passion.

    I also learned about Highland Wildcats. I love it when there are animals in stories and this was one of those. I did some research on them, even though I knew Ms. Cameron had already done it for me, but I'd never heard of them and wanted to know more. What a cool cat!

    So much happened in this book that kept me turning the pages. There was never a dull moment and the twisted ending made me do a groan-laugh, if there is such a phrase. This was probably my favorite book of the series so far.

    *Although this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel

    The H/h have a bumpy start and so it takes them awhile to find their voice with each other that isn't short or harsh words. The H especially is narky in his conversations with the h.

    The h's little girls are priceless as is the pets that come to love them. This was such a unique story. The h isn't a fresh, first year in Society. She had been happily married and was a mom to two little girls. The H was honorable, maybe a little gruff but slowly the h saw what was under his gruffness.

    There are a few nasty people, but more loving ones that balanced everything out. There is one lovemaking scene, barely outside of marriage and tastefully written, heat level 2 out of 5.

    The scene near the end with the pets was icing on the cake - very suspenseful!! The other surprise this author gave us, was the last chapter. You knew what it was about but surprise I was wrong. Oh, I laughed out loud and said to my e-reader, OH COLLETTE, YOU GOT ME GOOD!

    No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance, small tad of spice and a great enjoyment to read. I recommend this author, this story and series. This can be a stand alone. (ljb).

    What a great couple and really cute daughters! A Hogmanay house part at Laird Keane Buchannan's is the entertaining setting for this book and there is always interesting things that happen at a house party. Kean meets Lady Marjorie Kennedy, a widow with two daughters, and to say their first meeting was not good would be an understatement - don't pay no mind to the attraction they both experienced. He managed to insult the beautiful lady but she retaliated by putting the handsome, arrogant laird in his place!

    The pace of this story moved along quickly with romance, secrets, suspense, surprises and Keane and Marjorie dealing with their attraction to one another. This was such a fun read and Marjorie's daughters were darling (oh the kitties), plus it was wonderful to see some familiar characters from previous books in the series and the Epilogue was touching.

    Laird Keane Buchannan and Lady Marjorie Kennedy did not get off to a good start. He insulted her and she put the arrogant Highlander in his place. Now, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t an attraction. Can defying an arrogant Highland Duke could lead to love?

    The story takes place at Keane’s home during a house party to celebrate Hogmanay. The story and the party are interesting and entertaining. There is some trouble from a jealous lady and some danger from a demented relative. This is a fast-moving Highland romance with secrets revealed, twists, turns, and surprises. All the while, Keane and Marjorie try to sort out their feelings, if there are any, for each other. There are familiar and lovable characters from other stories in the series. I love the way Marjorie’s little girls made friends with Keane’s kitties. The last surprise comes in the epilogue where Papa and the girls pace the hall outside the bedchamber where something wonderful is taking place. I highly recommend this wonderful story.

    Another brilliant work from Collette Cameron! Take one duke with horrible relations and one widowed lady with two adorable little girls and you have the makings of a super story. Throw in the appearance of some much loved characters from previous books, one jealous lady and two Scottish wildcats, nasty, nasty relations, and you have lively scenes which have you rooting for Keane and Marjory, said duke and his lady.
    Keane Buchanan, Duke of Roxdale, is haunted by his terrible relationship with his late father. Collette, bit by bit, tells us the full story of his birth and youth. And it is very cleverly revealed. Marjory has also known real sadness in her life, so it is lovely to know how Keane and Marjory come to their beautiful HEA.
    This tale has angst, sorrow and deceit aplenty, but it is balanced with humour and love. It is most definitely worth a read. It will thrill and entertain you, but be ready to shout at Keane’s Uncle and cousin while you read. I did!
