    Angel and the Neville Next Door is part of the Sunshine Bay series, but it is very much perfect as a standalone.

    Helen is still reeling a year after her marriage came apart. If that wasn't bad enough, now her daughter has told her she won't be home for Christmas. She is thrilled when her friend Sylvia asks her to come to Sunshine Bay to cat-sit for the holidays. Angel, the cat, seems like she will be a good companion.

    Next door, Joe is dog-sitting Neville. Neville does not make a good first impression when he runs after Angel after he escapes the yard.

    Helen volunteers to help walk Neville. Helen and Joe get to know each other better as the holidays move along. Will the two be able to find a second chance at love?

    I love that the two main characters are more mature. Romance can happen at any age and doesn't just have to be for twenty and thirty-somethings. Second chances are special and I love those types of stories.

    It is wonderful that the story also revolves around pets. Animals offer unconditional love and certainly lift spirits when someone is down.

    This is first book by this author. I hope to read the other novels in the Sunshine Bay series in the near future.

    Jeanine Lauren is a new to me author and one that I look forward to reading again. This was a short, but super sweet, middle aged romance. Helen is a recently, depressed and almost divorced woman who needs a way to escape the horrors of finding herself single and alone. She is given the opportunity to escape for a few weeks and decides to take chance to just get away. Joe is a long divorced man that lives next door to the house that Helen will be spending the next two weeks house sitting. Sparks fly when these two meet. The question is, is their hearts healed enough to take another chance at romance?

    Great story line, awesome, easy to like characters, engaging dialogue, and easy to visualize detailed descriptions. Written as a 3rd person, multi pov with a HEA ending.

    Would I recommend this book? Yes

    Would I read more from this author? Yes

    I enjoyed the two main characters - both Joe & Helen at different stages after unexpected divorces! Their temporary pets, particularly Neville the lively young Westie, added to their growing attraction. Very much a feel-good move-on romance, Helen's hurt and resentment at her husband's betrayal with her best friend was the major obstacle to her growing relationship with Joe. This story had me smiling almost all the way through it. A very satisfying read right to the end! I'll be looking for more by Ms. Lauren. Highly recommended!!
