Twist of Fate: The Golden Legacy Kindle Edition
Overton Stafford, shunned by his family because of a birthmark on his face, made a life for himself as Second Mate on The Golden Fleece. In a battle with pirates, Overton loses his left arm, ending his career. Knowing he will be a wealthy man makes the pain easier to bear, especially when he discovers he can repay a moral debt and help an old friend. When he meets Anna, Overton realizes he wants more from her than a financial partnership.
Anneliese Van Stubel lost her sight at nine as a result of Smallpox. Now eighteen, a ward of the crown because of the Danish Age of Majority law, she lives in limbo, uncertain what will happen to her. When Overton approaches her with the proposition to help her rebuild the plantation, she’s excited with the idea of returning to her home. But her joy fades when her caregiver makes it plain that he has a different future in mind for her, one that will profit him.
Set in a time when brutality against women and slaves was the norm, Overton seeks to change things as he falls in love with the girl who has lost so much.

About the author

Susanne Matthews lives in Eastern Ontario, Canada with her husband. She has three grown children and five grandchildren. Of French-Canadian descent, although her ancestry is British Isles, Susanne is an avid reader of all types of books, but with a penchant for happily ever after romances regardless of what it takes to get there. A retired educator, she spends her time writing and creating adventures for her readers in a variety of genres that range from contemporary to romantic thrillers. She loves the ins and outs of complex stories and the journey it takes to get from the first word to the last period of a novel. As she writes, her characters take on a life of their own, and she shares their fears and agonies on the road to self-discovery and love. After all, everyone deserves a happy ending!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved Anna and Overton’s story. Each of them has been weighted down with terrible problems, but the Golden Legacy brings them together. I love the historical details in the book. There’s a lot of emotion in the story and some wonderful dramatic scenes like the evil plans carried out by Mr. Svenson. And a little monkey named Raymonde adds a nice touch. This is a great beginning to the Golden Legacy, and I’m looking forward to more books in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis one started a bit confusing, but once I met the characters it came together beautifully. I enjoyed the story a lot, and the characters are endearing. The suspense is excellent as always with Ms. Matthew's novels. Happy ☺reading 📚!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved this story of adventure, love and intrigue, with unconventional characters that draw out the best in readers. This is an exceptional beginning to a new series of historical romances, and I can't wait to read the rest of the books!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2020Format: KindleThis is a grand story of love that shouldn’t have happened. An ex-pirate with a sense to make things right, well before his time, and a blind orphan who’s grown into a lovely young woman but overlooked and forgotten as not good enough.
Five out of five fairy kisses for this reader.
