About the author

I'm a retired Air Force (civilian) accountant living in Warner Robins, Georgia. My interests are varied. I enjoy reading and writing Christian historical romances and inspirational commentary, golf, sewing, crocheting, knitting, politics, history, science and mathematics. I attend church regularly, and God is the center of my life. I'm proud of the good job my daughter is doing rearing my three wonderful grandchildren. God and my family make up the inner circle of my life, but I want to reach out with understanding and love to others.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA wonderful novel that pulls at your heart stings, full of adventures, love and mysteries. A bitter-sweet, Christian mail- order-bride that is arriving in Wyoming to find her husband in the 1800's.
Bethany Jamison is a nanny in the East working for a wealthy family. She needs to leave, her employer will not stop making passes at her. She has no family to turn to. So she contacted a Mail-Order-Bride Agency. The Agency sent her to Wyoming within days to meet Joseph Miner, her husband-to-be. When she arrived he was holding a new born baby. ......What?
Bethany is really upset she has no money to buy a return ticket!
This is a wonderful story full of surprises, fun and lovable with mysteries thrown in. I had never read a book by this author before but I enjoyed this story. The characters were believable, a few of the characters were not pleasant but needed to be there to make the story flow easily. The characters stay in your mind even when you stop reading. This was an easy to read, fast paced and interesting novel. I enjoyed the book with a few surprises throughout. I recommend this book to others that like a great fast paced book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDelightful historical mail-order story about a young woman who was a past orphan and nanny who wanted to escape a lecherous employer and past heart-breaking accident to start over anew. Arriving in Wyoming she finds a desperate brother who is trying to save his sister's premature newborn upon her passing with her husband absconding the scene. Relying on past experiences, she proves worthy as a nanny but wants more from her hasty marriage. And then, once bonded the unthinkable occurs. Worthy CF adventure/romance sure to maintain your attention throughout.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a well written story with danger, drama, romance and family. Bethany ends up arriving in Latinos as a mail order bride but the future husband has no idea. Bethany helps Joseph with a new born baby of his sister’s.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBethany’s Baby is a beautifully written story that shows the difficulties of life in the 1800s. With little chance for advanced education (or even secondary school) few women had options other than getting married, holding a domestic job, or becoming a teacher. By the time the story opens, Bethany has already experienced tragedy and unwanted advances from smarmy employers. She is spunky enough to take matters into her own hands, and she flees before the situation gets worse. Enter Mrs. Crenshaw who saves the day and arranges for Bethany to meet a prospective groom through her mail-order bride agency. Gentle, yet possessing strength of character, she is exactly what Joseph Milner needs. He just doesn’t know it yet! Caring for his sister’s newborn child brings them together, but circumstances try to force them apart. Themes of forgiveness, second chances, and God’s mercy are effectively woven throughout the story without being preachy. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBethany Baby’s was another winsome mail order bride story by Elaine Manders. I was enthralled reading this book with the strong fortitude and generosity of spirit Manders had for Bethany. Despite hardships she endured as a child and issues when employed she was ready to travel to Wyoming to possibly become a mail order bride. The unexpected happenings Joseph was faced with when Bethany arrived surprisingly at his door gave way to more than she had anticipated. Bethany’s and Joseph’s story kept me spellbound until I finished this book. I was right in the midst of the characters lives living each tender and tense moment with them. This is my favorite book to date in Westward Home and Hearts Mail-Order Brides series. I’ll be awaiting the next book by Manders to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that Bethany and Joe were both wonderful people who held onto their faith when devastating events came their way. Elaine is such a talented author. She's created a story filled with characters you can't help but root for. You feel their highs and lows, their hope and despair. The book pulls you in at the beginning and moves well right through the ending, with an intriguing plot and a few suspenseful twists. If you enjoy inspirational historical fiction, you won't want to miss this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe author does a good job of showing the love that Bethany has for the baby and her growing love for her new husband. The plot is a good one but everything seemed hurried to a finish. The story needed to be filled out a little more, and the characters needed to be fleshed out to real people with real feelings. I give it three stars. Sheila Huntington, author.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBethany and Joseph work hard, plus with lots of prayer, to nurture Rosie to live and grow. It was that strength, love and prayers that the Judge granted them custody of Rosie. This is another book I will recommend to family and friends who enjoying Christian romance books.
