4.5 out of 5 stars (40)

The Realms refers to a parallel dimension hidden between Minneapolis and St. Paul where creatures, humans think of as only mythical, roam free.

Cody is a shape shifter with some monumental problems that all started when he died. He’s escaped to The Realms from the midlands between Heaven and Hell only to find his best friend is potential food for the resident vampires, his girlfriend only loves him in his wolf form and her mother…well that’s a whole other story.

It isn’t easy being Cody, but like a good wolf he’ll do what he can to protect his pack even if it kills him. Wait…he’s already dead.

What a fun and quick read! Cody’s character is likable and developed fairly well in this short read. He is my favorite, not only because he’s the main character, but because he is sensitive, insecure, and strong all at the same time.

Having a crush on a girl, Cody turns into his wolf form, and it is adorable how he interacts with Simone (the girl he likes). From the way he enjoys a belly rub to the way he eats, Cody’s character can be seen through this furry animal.

The author does a nice job in developing The Realms. She takes the time to describe some of the creatures that live there, including a not-so-common supernatural being that you definitely don’t want to mess with (I won’t spoil the surprise!). I felt I was in Cody’s new world, and I appreciate the author in doing so.

In this well-written text, the only “issue” I had was I wanted more! The author’s writing style and unique tale is one to look out for!

I would recommend this read to those who enjoy some supernatural in their reading and learning about a new world!

This is an utterly delightful story about this young teenager, Cody who is caught between two different worlds. His human form that seems vulnerable and insecure and that of a wolf which is incredibly overpowering and charming.
Evevrything seems to be quite normal until, things turn dark, revenge is never an option, the consequences are desperate and our hero is undead.
Nonetheless,Cody finds love and compassion, a perfect teenage dream we all dream about, but there s a slight mishap she prefers him in his wolf form.
Hail to the author for giving this book such a special feel,i enjoyed so much that i ve already read it 3 times.
The humour and that little cheekiness makes this story complete.
A story to behold like inticate embroidery on the finest velvet.

A light quick read, Shifting Realms is a nice taster of what could be within the Twin Cities Series. Cody is a werewolf but not like you see in the movies. Here's the thing, he knows he's a werewolf but when you die in the real world, you can end up in the Realms.

Cody ends up here because of an impulsive reaction to a heinous crime. The ideas within the Realms and the concepts have vampires, werewolves and even fire demons, which definitely leaves you wanting more.

The concept is there and the possibilities are endless, but this short read, although satisfying, left me wanting a lot more. Cody is likable, the concepts and perspectives are unique, and I can't help but wonder how this would read with an extra 50-100 pages. Snyder knows how to bring a great idea forth and the first person perspective works well to describe the world in the terms of a werewolf.

This is the second book I've read by Snyder and I'm working on my third. Quick refreshing reads so far and leave a reader wanting more, so here's to much more from her.

Normally I wouldn't have picked this book as I knew it was a short read and I usually avoid them like the plague. But having been told by a friend it was worth the download and I gave it a go. Well short it is, but if it's possible it reads much longer. For a short story this has a surprising amount of detail and is a complete story, not just a collection of introductory chapters to a longer novel. I really loved this author's style. I haven't read any of her works before but loved the concept of this story and The Realms. This really would make a fantastic full length novel series or tv show. By the end I wanted to know more about his mysterious world and the characters that dwell within it.

The shapeshiter is dead. Sort of.
Hiding in The Realm, Cody finds a life, er, unlife among the humans, vampires and... other beings living there. Trapped as an adolescent by his death, he meets a girl.
You’ll have to read it to find out the rest.
Then come back and give it 5 stars. Because they don’t let you give it 6.
This is an extremely enjoyable and well written story. Like a gourmet meal or a fine wine, it leaves you wanting more and satisfied at the same time.
    I highly recommend this novella.
To the author I say, “Bravo!"

I bought this book to read on the airplane. I like to pick up novellas as I can finish them before I land and not be caught in that I want to read and can't trap. I was pleasantly surprised by this paranormal, coming of age story.

It has elements of sweetness in it along with the obvious angst of teenage dating and a first crush. At the same time, that story is woven into a new element of paranormal settings. The Realms was a unique take on settings in this genre and I absolutely loved it.

The main protagonist is believable in both wolf and human form. The rule of the vampires is exactly how I imagine life would be for humans if vampires ran the show.

Why this book is not higher on the rankings is beyond me. If you are looking for something new or an easy read, you should definitely check this novella out.

ghosts + werewolves = this book. The story of a shape-shifting teenager who now lives (dwells?) in "The Realms" since his death. Adolescence, young love (sort of), coming to terms with death, and of course, some fantasy elements.

I found this book to be both enjoyable and intriguing. The main character was certainly different and the setting rather magical. The story left me wanting to know more about both.
