Before The Boy: The Prequel To The Moon Singer Trilogy Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars (16)

Even in death, a mother guides her son through triumph and tragedy to his true destiny.Billie Nickerson must accept her own mortality as the only way her son will receive the intuitive gifts he was born to inherit, to save her family - and perhaps the world - from a disastrous fate. But learning that she has died too soon creates a Karmic crisis, as Billie tries to escape the afterlife and return to her loved ones.In this prequel to The Moon Singer Trilogy (The Crystal Clipper, The War Chamber, The Wind Rose) we learn the uncanny circumstances that that made Billie's son, David, become a seeker of spiritual truth. As his teacher and mentor, she gave him the courage to overcome his unexpected deafness, to excel at music - and to hear the voice within that speaks from his soul. While Billie’s life is fraught with danger and dark spirits, the story is an illustration of a mother’s love and devotion that transcends the boundaries of the here and the hereafter.

Editorial Reviews

Review

As stated in the title, this book is a prequel to The Moon Singer Series but can easily be read as a standalone novella. Characters are well-developed and intriguing. While I heartily recommend reading the whole series, this prequel is a satisfying well-written read.- Barbara Mojica, Top Contributor, Children's Books, Top 1000 Reviewers

Usually, I'm not a very big fan of prequels as most of them feel a bit forced and coming out of nowhere. With Before the Boy, there's a feeling of plenitude, almost as the Moon Singer Trilogy needed this prequel to truly be understood at its core. The way she describes the characters and how we're involved in the story is stellar and worthy of the great reviews she's been getting. -
Marcia, independent reviewer *****

An amazing story...I do not want to spoil a readers surprises so I will only list a number of topics tucked away in this masterpiece: romance, tragedy, visitors from the other side, reincarnation, our other lives, destiny, the Master Plan.-

I've just added a new suspense thriller, "A Man's Face," that chronicles an attorney's quest to find the man who killed his mother, and whose life spirals out of control when he encounters the treacherous Ibarra family.

"Before the Boy: The Prequel to The Moon Singer Series will answer all the questions that arise in the original 3 books. It's a chilling prequel to the inspiring series, a paranormal delight as the main character tries to escape the afterlife after she learns that she died too soon! "The Immortal Rose Wyndham: The Beginning" chronicles the Moon Singer series from 1750 France to 21st Century California.

To see my children's books, go to the Barbara Roman Author Page:

"The Prince Who Was A Piccolo" is my latest children's book with an enchanting musical theme about an unhappy prince searching for his true identity.

"Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13." It is an enchanting tale of friendship, courage, and realizing your star potential through the magic of believing! Mystical illustrations by Vladimir Cebu.

Another book, as Barbara Roman, is "Hubert in Heaven," is a delightful children's story, with a Christmas theme, and a message for all of us who are too attached to our hi-tech "toys."

Since childhood, I've been torn between two worlds: writing and singing. It's difficult to serve "two masters," as they say, but I was compelled to do so. When I was not singing, I was writing; when I was not writing, I was singing.

I've learned, for me, that one creative expression nurtures the other. Much of my writing has a musical theme somewhere in the plot, or is the plot. Whether it's in my non-fiction writing about the power of music itself, in picture books and stories and, of course, in writing music and lyrics for songs.

It is natural, therefore, that my trilogy of adventures for young readers, "The Moon Singer" (formerly "The Secrets of the Moon Singer") has its roots in musical theories and metaphors, entwined with the magic and mystery of metaphysical concepts and matters of ethics, faith, compassion, love, and heroism. Book 1 (The Crystal Clipper) and Book 2 (The War Chamber) lay the groundwork for this power of music of the highest order. Book 3 (The Wind Rose) pulls it all together and will, I hope, give readers a complete understanding of the importance of music in our lives and in the world.

On the other side of the spectrum, my suspense novels ("Whatever Became of Sin?" and "A Man's Face") are a departure from a higher consciousness to the mundane world of flawed humans, amoral people committing immoral crimes and eventually paying the price for their transgressions. Penning a thriller sort of grounds me and helps to clear my mind of darker thoughts so I can go back to writing empowering fantasies.

I hope you will delight in their messages just as I was delighted to write them.

This story is the prequel to the author’s Moon Singer Trilogy. The author exhibits an interest and understanding of metaphysics. She combines lots of that knowledge as she conjures her interesting fiction. The scenes from the afterlife are reminiscent of some of those from The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold.

As David and Sally come to understand the loss of their mother, the author soothes us with her knowledge of music and the arts, well-established in the character of David. Character personalities and emotions are well-developed, as are the fantasy aspects that run through the whole story. This is not a simple tale, however. Though it is a prequel, it is also a stand-alone story; one that offers excitement and directing us to the Moon Singer Trilogy which sprouts from this beginning.

The few major characters are well-established in their places and I’m sure that’s from where they will perform in the trilogy. Billie Nickerson learns she has much karmic debt to work through. How will Billie affect the lives of her children from “the other side” and work toward paying off those karmic debts? That is surely the promise of the stories in the Moon Singer Trilogy.

    B. Roman has woven another fantastic tale in this prequel to The Moon Singer series, one that fills in the back story about David, Sally and his mother, Billie. Unfortunately, Billie is recounting this as someone searching for her place in the afterlife, while she’s also trying to figure out how to communicate with her deaf son David. Besides a deep maternal desire to reach out to her children, there are distractions, and dark forces, some of which were around when she played piano at home, while alive on Earth. After a horrific accident—everything changed.
In her new life, as Mina, there are similar shady entities offering bad suggestions, pushing her into areas of no return. Fortunately, she has one thing that carries her through war, and incredible loss. It’s music. Billie Nickerson believes that music is love. “What you want is yours to manifest,” she’s told by the highest of the Elders. Facing the unknown, she plans to carry her deep love of family in her heart through the upcoming cycles, realms, and lifetimes in her future. Whether you’ve read the Moon Singer series or not, I recommend this novel to anyone looking for interesting reading. It will get you hooked, and you’ll want to find out more.

Although it’s better if you’ve read the trilogy before, this book is perfectly fine as a stand-alone. Reading through it you uncover the story of David and Sally’s parents and the reasons behind the loss of their mother. The story touches in a deep and meaningful way in an array of topics from loss, spirituality, death and, most importantly, love and family. As always, B. Roman writes a great novel filled with deep emotions and valuable lessons in a language that goes beyond mere words. The way she describes the characters and how we’re involved in the story is stellar and worth of the great reviews she’s been getting.

As stated in the title, this book is a prequel to The Moon Singer Series but can easily be read as a standalone novella.

The story begins with a horrendous car crash in which Blanche dies. Then it shifts to the story of Billie who is attracted to Isaac Nickerson. The two are opposites, but Isaac, the military man, and Billie, the pacifist wind up becoming man and wife. They will become the parents of David and Sally. A psychic forewarns Billie about the dangers and trials that her talented son will face before performing an extraordinary role in society. Billie is simultaneously intrigued and haunted by her destiny.

Characters are well-developed and intriguing. While I heartily recommend reading the whole series, this prequel is a satisfying well-written read.

This prequel to the Moon Singer Trilogy answers many questions about the tragedy behind the story. If you believe in an afterlife, or even if you don't, this glimpse into the hereafter will intrigue. Billy's life was cut short and she is determined to get back to Earth and help her talented son. It's a poignant tale with a light at the end of the tunnel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great prequel to a wonderful series

Before the Boy: The Prequel to the Moon Singer Trilogy by B. Roman is like the title explains the prequel to the Moon Singer trilogy. Having previously read the last in this series, I was intrigued to see how the author had tied this in with the rest of the story. Normally you read a prequel before a series and although it's possible with this I feel that it would be better to read after, as then the series makes more sense. I'd read the last in the series a couple years ago but found this to bring back the story.

In this book we meet Billie Nickerson the mother of David and Sally, the reader discovers how Blanche tragically dies in a road accident but then tells the story of Billie's life. We read how she met the love of her life, David's father and how she gave birth to her children. However, Billie has a foreboding of something not being right and her meeting with Dorinda. Dorinda's chilling words haunt Billie and she soon realises, that the Psychic isn't quite what she first thought.

Another great addition to this series, recommend to both young adults and adults.
