A December with a Duke: A Sensual Marriage of Convenience Regency Christmas Romance Adventure (Dukes Come Calling (Seductive Scoundrels) Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars (771)

Can a Christmas scandal melt the heart of a woman who swore she’d never love again?
After surviving a cruel marriage, widow Everleigh Chatterton has no intention of surrendering her freedom—or her heart—ever again. Society’s gatherings leave her cold, and she keeps all gentlemen at a careful distance. But when she reluctantly agrees to attend a Christmastide house party, she comes face-to-face with the very last man she wants to see: the dangerously charming Duke of Sheffield. She’s rebuffed him before. This time, it may be her resolve that breaks.
Griffin Townsend, Duke of Sheffield, has spent nearly a year searching for the right woman to help him raise his orphaned ward. What he never expected was to find her in Everleigh—elegant, aloof, and utterly captivating. When he sees her soft side emerge with his young charge, he’s certain she’s the one. Winning her trust, however, may require more than charm and persistence—it may demand the one thing he’s never freely given: his heart.
But as snow falls and scandal brews, two guarded hearts must risk everything for a second chance at love—and a Christmastide they’ll never forget.

From the Author

Dearest Reader,

If you're looking for an emotionally riveting, heart-warming Regency Yuletide tale, A DECEMBER WITH A DUKE is the perfect holiday read. Griffin and Everleigh's story began in ONLY A DUKE WOULD DARE, but theirs is not a warm, fuzzy Christmas story.

I put my hero and heroine through a lot before they finally got their happily-ever-after. I included an adorable orphan and characters you've seen in the first two Dukes Come Calling (Seductive Scoundrels) Series books, as well as giving hints about possible future couples in other books.

I hope A DECEMBER WITH A DUKE makes you sigh with satisfaction and leaves a smile on your face.

Happy reading!

xoxo
Collette

If you love romantic regency stories, there is none better than Collette Cameron to satisfy you with every word she writes in this wonderful novella. A delightful heartwarming romance that bring two people together, during a month long house party to celebrate the holidays. Everleigh, the heroine (don't you just love that name?) was a widow who had sworn off marrying again due to the terrible treatment from her deceased husband and his son. Having endured and lost so much, she had sworn off men and had no plans to remarry. On the other hand, Griffin, the Duke of Sheffield wanted to marry to have a mother for his adopted daughter. As he meets the beautiful widow there is a strong attraction and he woos her to try to change her mind on marrying again.
I truly adored these two characters and his daughter Sarah just melted my heart. The magic of the season prevails in this heartwarming story of love found when least expected!
PS, don't you love this awesome cover? Such a handsome gentleman and beautiful lady!!

Mrs Everleigh Chatterton was the victim of rape - then compounded by the marriage to the father of the abuser. To add to her misery, Everleigh suffers not only the death of her infant daughter, but the physical abuse of her elderly husband. Until the robbery and death of both set her free. But Everleigh is not free of the scars of the abuse suffered at their hands. Known to society as the Ice Queen, she rarely is seen in society - a wealthy widow since she inherited all from her abusive husband, She reluctantly accepts an invitation to a Christmas house party from her dearest friend, Thea the Duchess of Sutcliffe. There she will be surrounded by her friend and her protective cousins. Also in attendance is Griffin, Duke of Sheffield, with his daughter, Sarah, age 3, who immediately takes to Everleigh and she to the orphan little girl. Griffin is looking for a special woman to be a mother to Sarah - and he thinks he found her in Everleigh. But can she ever trust a man after the years of abuse and pain?? Everleigh is drawn to Griffin as she sees his love and care for Sarah. Can she take a chance to discover if his gentleness and care will overcome her fears? Enchanting story of how love and patience can heal even the deepest wounds and lead from darkness to light and joy!

A December with a Duke by Collette Cameron
Everleigh Chatterton accepts an invitation to a month-long house party where her friend Theadosia has made efforts to help Everleigh move back into Society and eventually marry. Everleigh, having survived a tormented and abusive marriage, has NO desire to ever subject herself to the marriage. Griffin, Duke of Sheffield, is looking for the right woman to be his duchess and mother of his orphan “daughter”, Sarah. Not just any woman will do – she must be special and look beyond what Society sees of Sarah.

When Everleigh and Griffin are reacquainted at the party (they met briefly in Collette Cameron’s previous book Only a Duke Would Dare), Griffin is determined to get beyond Everleigh’s chilly exterior. There is a mutual attraction and he is convinced she is the one who could be a wonderful mother for Sarah. Although Everleigh enjoys spending time with Sarah and Griffin, she is far from convinced that marriage is a good idea.

Collette Cameron has written a poignant and romantic story about finding one’s way back from the incredible pain in life. Ms. Cameron gives Everleigh the right amount of apprehension yet curiosity about love. The secondary characters add to the depth of the story and leave you wondering if a couple of them will have their own stories in the future.

This is the third book in Collette Cameron’s Seductive Scoundrel’s Series. Although some of the characters appear in previous books, this story can easily be read as a stand-alone. She has another winner in A December with a Duke! I truly enjoyed this Christmas-time novella! What better time of year to experience the joy of love?!?

This was a wonderful, feel good read. Griffin, Duke of Sheffield, has arrived at a Christmas month long house party. He hopes to find a wife as well as a mother for his three year old adopted daughter. Everleigh Chatterston, widowed, is here at the invitation of her friend to help her re-enter society after her period of mourning. When Griffin sees her interaction with his daughter, his mind is made up to get to know her. This story covers all the wow aspects to historical romance. Learning to trust again, denial of feelings of love, acceptance of those feelings, self worth and love. I was cheering for Everleigh and Griffin and little Sarah. CC has a way with writing that pulls you in from the first page to the last. Her characters always shine. I highly recommend this book and give it five stars.

This is my favourite story ever by Collette Cameron. That is saying something, because I love her work. What makes this story so special is Collette’s ability to show us the tragedy in Everleigh’s life before meeting her soul mate. I wept while reading about her previous marriage and was completely engrossed in the tale, all the while wishing for her happy ever after so deserved by her. As usual Collette shows her wonderful way with words and entertained me greatly. I recommend that you have a hanky on you when you read this, and guarantee that you will feel quite wonderful once you have finished!

This novella is realistic with how a woman who has been abused by a husband would cope with men in her life - Everleigh's withdrawal symptoms of crowds and unknown people is also typical of an abused woman - I loved Griffin's character not only as a father to Sarah his adopted daughter but that of a strong man who knows and loves Everleigh enough to allow her time to heal - I felt sorry for Caroline as well because her husband if vile enough to be raping women would have been treating Caroline brutally, too - I adored Sarah and Claire in the story also

This is a wonderful novel , well written and the humorous moments with the child are truly remarkable. I only regretted that their sexual encounter was not described or even alluded too. I think it would have contributed to the psychology of the characters and would have make the book a little more exciting. I don’t necessarily want a lot of sex or too explicit, steamy novels but in that particular case, I would have liked a little more sexual description of that very important night

Everleigh is emotionally scarred by her past experiences. For the first time, she finds herself actually interested in a man, Griffin. Meanwhile, Griffin is determined to win over the woman he has been watching for a while.

I loved the little girl in this book. That was a nice touch. I did like Griffin and found Everleigh to be interesting, too. Like all the other books in this series, it is short and sometimes jumps forward in time, missing out on developing the story properly.

Overall, this was one of the more enjoyable books in this series.
