The Admiral's Daughter: A Sapphic Romance Kindle Edition
A sapphic romance set on the high seas
An arrogant sailor who never sticks around.
A guarded journalist who doesn’t trust the Navy.
One reckless night turns into months at sea…
Royal Navy able rate River Dawson never drops anchor in the same harbor twice—especially when it comes to women. With a reputation as the fleet’s heartbreaker, she lives for no-strings seductions and swift departures. But when her latest redheaded fling turns out to be the Admiral’s daughter—and her new crewmate aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth—River’s easy-come, easy-go lifestyle hits rough waters.
Cleo Carter has sworn off sailors. After years of watching duty outrank family—and suffering one heartbreak too many—she’s done with sea life. But when she’s assigned to cover one of her father’s ship, Cleo finds herself trapped on board with the one woman she should’ve left on shore.
As scandal brews and sparks ignite below deck, River and Cleo must decide if their chemistry is just a shipboard fling—or the start of something worth risking everything for.
Perfect for fans of sapphic romance, forbidden love, and sharp banter.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2026Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother great read by Alyson Root. I love the her British sense of humor and that definitely comes out in this book. I wasn't impressed by the character River Romeo Dawson at first, those player type of women make me roll my eyes and tell them to grow up. Alyson turns that thinking around in the way she delves into River's psyche and enlists the help of Cleo Carter. Nothing helps a woman grow up faster than a good woman who is worth growing up for.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2026Format: KindleFirst time read MS Roots book she did a great job bring Romeo and Cleo to life. Romeo Dawson is a sailor but she is a player when she is in port. Cleo is the Admiral's daughter who is doing her dad a favor as a journalist. With the help of her bunk mates Dawson is growing up, but hoping not to get in trouble with her WO and Captain. A good story with a HEA
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2026Format: KindleWhat an exquisite read. I loved this so much. The story flowed, it was well-edited. The chemistry was perfect. I wish the MC’s had more actual time together but you also captured Navy life perfectly. Well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2026Format: KindleI know that I'm an outlier here, but first person is my least favorite pov to read in a book. I find it more tolerable in audiobook form with a decent narrator, but I always struggle to get into it when I'm reading visually. So, unfortunately, I did have a bit of that disconnect going on with The Admiral's Daughter, which isn't in any way meant to be negative! A lot of people will undoubtedly love it for being first person pov.
Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun with this one despite said disconnect! I had a little laugh to myself at one point because, as we learned about the Navy and the life these characters lead on the ship, I had the thought that it reminded me of the TV show Vigil... for the characters to reference said show a couple of chapters later. Normally, I'm not a fan of modern media references since they throw me out of the story, but I'm happy to let that one slide.
Cleo was an absolute darling of a character to follow, though I wish we'd actually gotten more of the investigative side of the plot since the majority of it happened on the sidelines. She and River were both disasters who equally had their own problems to work through, and I'm mostly pleased with how the epilogue played out.
There wasn't as much of a slowburn as I expected, though, and their relationship picks up pretty fast considering one of them is solidly against the idea of serious relationships at the start of the novel.
Overall, it's a lovely romance that's perfect for anyone who likes not-so-slow slowburns, forced proximity, or is a fan of the BBC tv show Vigil starring Suranne Jones.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2026Format: KindleCleo and River's story was so good. A one night stand and a bruised ego on River's part turns into a dating experiment while on board a NAVAL ship! River is a player and until she meets Cleo, who seems to be immune to River's smooth moves and smoother words. Their banter and discovery of love within each other is beautiful. Great character development and even better love story. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2026Format: KindleI loved this book. It was really great how they managed to make every minute last. I can’t say more without spoiling the book, but it’s a fabulous love story, whether you’re gay or straight or whatever.

Katie LReviewed in the United Kingdom on April 15, 20265.0 out of 5 stars Warm, heartfelt and full of emotional depth, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
Format: KindleVerified Purchase💗 The magnetic chemistry between River and Cleo. Two women carrying old wounds and feeling out new possibilities, surrounded by brilliant supporting characters. Kit, Boot and Cheddar absolutely shine.
🔥 A one-night stand that turns into something deeper aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth. Who knew the simple dates would help someone fall so easily? Completely addictive.
🌿 A thoughtful exploration of trust, self-awareness and second chances, all while navigating ship dynamics and the small complication of dating the boss’s daughter.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was an enjoyable book to read with two pleasant MC's working through their romantic feelings for each other despite a rocky start. Overall, it was pretty low angst and it was great to have an ending which took the story on a further 15 years!
Although I am not Navy, I am fairly sure that a number of the references to rank, who speaks/works with whom and so on was not truly accurate (and the cover image would be a complete no-no)... but, if the reader is happy to ignore that, the story flows well and there are a number of laugh out loud moments too.
Overall, worth around 4.4 stars, not quite good enough to be rounded up to the full five in the basic Amazon system... but very nearly.
C. A. SmithReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 10, 20265.0 out of 5 stars You`ll need your sea legs for this one
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was on board an Aircraft Carrier years ago but my experience was nothing like Cleo`s (I was privileged to visit USS Theodore Roosevelt for a tour), which enabled me to picture the ship`s interior. Anyway, Cleo had far more experiences than I did, thanks to River/Romeo! Suffice to say that the story is full of love, lesbian angst, likeable (or not in certain cases), & laughs. Treat yourself & enjoy
