Moly Holy did I devour this! I am now an eternal member of the I LOVE ALICE LANE club, because seriously, the woman that she is. So many thoughts going through my mind as I am fresh from the high of finishing this story. I may have to come back later and edit to add more praise to this review and pose some questions I may have forgotten since I’m still coming down from the adrenaline that the last 20% of the book put me through.
The biggest indicator of whether or not this book was going to be a hit or miss for me was dependent on how annoying the MCs were. To my pleasant surprise, I loved everything about Alice and Darian, flaws and all (even Darian’s name being Darian.) The angst gave just the right amount of heart squeezes and the plot twists kept me on my toes. The white and dark witches history was such a good plot point and I enjoyed how the author flipped the script on the stereotypical archetype for them.
If I’m being honest, what sold me was Alice’s character and growth. I’ve had enough of FMCs struggling to make a living after running away from the MMC only to be strong armed into liking him again because he has the monetary means to dig her and her secret baby out of poverty even if she was “pridefully resisting” his help for all of two seconds. In this story Alice and Darian’s reunion was met on an equal level playing field. Both were successful in their own right—her a lawyer and him a CEO because of course he is—which allowed Alice more leeway to be as rightfully resistant and prideful as she wants. You know, because she can actually afford it. I love how she didn’t cower in the face of Darian’s coercion, even putting him in his place and reminding him that he was the reason for everything and therefore had no right to feel anything but remorseful and repentant towards her. Don’t EVEN get me started on her personality. Serious girlboss by day and playful and sassy minx by night. *Chefs kiss* No notes.
Some honorable mentions include amazing side characters and storyline set up for those characters. Obvi Mary was the side character MVP with Katherine running a close second. Suffice to say, this was a strong introduction to this new to me author, Jaymin Snow and the bar is set decently high. I will happily be continuing on this series, but first a nap.
