Michael DiMercurio is an American veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine force, bestselling author, commentator and humorist.

DiMercurio graduated first academically in his U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis) class with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1980 despite the expellable offense of parking his hotrod in the admiral’s space. In the face of Navy misgivings, DiMercurio was a National Science Foundation scholar to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating in 1981 with an S.M. master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

DiMercurio joined the crew of the Cold War-winning nuclear fast attack submarine USS Hammerhead where he earned the nuclear Navy’s coveted “qualified in submarines” gold dolphins, allowing him to stand command watches as officer of the deck submerged. DiMercurio rose to become the “bull lieutenant,” the most senior of the eight junior officers aboard. Hammerhead conducted numerous top secret North Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea operations, including “snapping up” and trailing three Soviet nuclear submarines and crossing the Gulf of Sidra’s “Line of Death” to hide under a Russian nuclear cruiser to catch a targeted incoming Soviet attack submarine. While DiMercurio was a rebellious practical joker of an officer, invariably violating the captain's direct orders not to smoke cigars in the control room, he was undisputedly a tactical genius at detecting and trailing Soviet submarines.

After DiMercurio and Hammerhead won the Cold War and defeated the Soviet Union’s sweeping octopus of world communism, DiMercurio authored nine USA Today bestselling Navy submarine fiction novels such as Vertical Dive, Emergency Deep, Attack of the Seawolf and Threat Vector and the satirical non-fiction work, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Submarines. He was a commentator on Fox News during the 2005 Russian submersible AS-28 rescue, personally calling out Vladimir Putin to man up and accept Western rescue efforts rather than deliberately letting his sailors die as he did in 2000 during the Kursk sinking. Suitably chastised, Putin gave the green light to British and American rescue divers and equipment, and the sailors lived.

As a commentator and columnist, DiMercurio writes essays on topics as diverse as international politics, conspiracy theories, the humorous side of divorce, military and civilian office politics, modern electronic-aided dating and even such wildly ambitious topics as grammar and understanding women.

DiMercurio hangs out in an underground bunker in an undisclosed location. When he isn’t writing, providing incisive content on social media sites, annoying the females in his life, masterfully leading complex projects or inexperienced project managers, he can be found lazing in a mellow cloud of cigar smoke, sipping Kentucky bourbon or riding his obnoxiously loud Harley.

This is the 9th DiMercurio novel that I have read and it does not disappoint! This is a must read for anyone and can be read without reading the prior Patch Pacino series (though I'd highly recommend it!). DiMercurio provides enough background information for the key characters to allow you to follow the storyline without going back to previous books.

Many of DiMercurio books include reviews that say something like "...rivals Tom Clancy..." but these books aren't even in the same class as Clancy books. This is because DiMercurio actually lived the life of a nuclear submariner and knows what actually happens onboard a US nuclear submarine! DiMercurio's character development and battle/technical descriptions are some of the best I've read in my life (and I read A LOT!). For example, he describes each minute detail of a torpedo or bomb detonating on target from the initiation of the launch sequence through the explosion!

My recommendation would be to put away those Clancy novels and pick up all of DiMercurio's books!

Another very good book by DiMercurio. Love the series. In this one, the storyline tends to get lost amid all the technical detail, which I found myself skimming past.

With Lion of the Seven Seas, Michael DiMercurio solidifies his position as a master storyteller of this generation.
From the first page to the final, he has woven a tale bigger than life. This is not just a novel, this is an epic adventure.
I have been a fan of his novels since the 1st, Voyage of the DevilFish and eagerly anticipated the release of his newest novel. And I've got to say, he delivered.
Within these pages you will find everything. You'll find laughter, anger, sadness, love and every other emotion. I found myself laughing, cheering, yelling, pounding my table in anger, and yes, even crying.
One of the hallmarks of his past novels has been the time he and energy he has invested into each character, not making them just a side piece in the background, but bringing life to every one of them. And with Lion of the Seven Seas, he did this brilliantly. Every character has a story. Every character is important to the arc in a whole. You end up investing your time deeply into each one of these characters, and I've got to say, it's an incredible ride.
The magic of this novel, though, is his uncanny ability to blend, which seems to be multiple genres into one incredible story. In Lion of the Seven Seas, we have geopolitics on a grand scale… Sci-fi, techno thriller of course…romance and dare I say, a bit of the paranormal. He is able to blend all of this together into an exciting, riveting, nail biting experience. I could literally not it put down. From the moment it arrived on my iPad until I finished the final page, I was hooked. I was lost in these words and I was blown away.
With this grand novel, Michael DiMercurio has reached the pinnacle of his art. This is a masterpiece. You can feel that this was a labor of love. This is an incredible novel that must be read. To him I say thank you for giving this to us. This magical ride. It was amazing.

As a submarine officer I have sailed out of New London and Norfolk Des/Sub piers and enjoyed the transits to the dive points in the late 60’s. Sped read when he got all wrapped up in technology of various weapons and the “M” effect was quite a stretch for me.

Michael (Mikey), has a way with submarine books. I have read them all and I would recommend them all. Some technical terms are included, not to confuse the reader, but to show his knowledge of submarines. DBF.

This story was perhaps the most unconventional installment of the series. It featured many flashbacks while frequently flirting with the supernatural. Although the narrative sets it apart from the preceding volumes, I felt that made it a better story. Prepare yourself for a roller coaster of a tale. Very highly recommended.

Bizarre! I usually enjoy this author but this???? A lot of strange multiverse chatter, Mandela effects, people coming back from the dead, miraculous cures of the critically injured in a matter of hours. To make matters worse, I am pretty sure the author just cut and pasted whole chapters from his prior novels. I truly tried to slog through it but I finally pulled the plug and moved on.

Really just not very good. I have enjoyed his previous books but I am now at 35% on my Kindle and I give up, not worth wasting any more time. Too much reliance on ‘ghosts’ to move the plot forward, not a thriller.

I have read all of Michael's books over the years as I enjoy submarine warfare thrillers. Sadly this will probably be my last. Ghost pilots floating about in the sky and in the submarines passing information to the living. Alternate reality's and changed history. Nelson Mandela's changed history! Load of tosh!! Hopefully Michael will reverse course.
