So this is the thing: I am feeling the need for change, and for a distance from this journal. It has been two years, but I almost feel overdue for a switch. This probably says something about me, but I do not care what.

So I am switching journals. And... pretty much everything. I am going on friending sprees later, after I finish setting things up. Feel free to add now, and I will add you back later. Or to not. I enjoy reading everyone on my list, but I completely understand if you do not want me around.

So first of all, there are two new journals. One is for general journaling, and one is for bad days and bitching and negativity. Because I really hate looking back through my journal and seeing all the bitching I do. This way it's in its own corner, and if you do not want to see, you do not have to add.

100 Things about (Wicca, Witchcraft, Paganism, Magic,) Religion and Spirituality
for the 100 Things challenge

001. Definitions

So, as I have said, this 100 Things is going to be more about personal reflections and thoughts than a 101 course, or a how-to, or basic information of any kind, really. I am a second generation Wiccan who is looking to reconnect with their religion; this is going to be my journey through that more than anything else.

That being said: Definitions? Are a beautiful thing. So here are some. This is what I mean when I say Wicca and magic. It may not exactly match someone else's definition; they're hard concepts to pin down.

What Wicca is: A religion based on God and Goddess worship (though this can take a lot of different forms) with emphasis on the idea of balance and harmony, personal responsibility and free will, and respect for nature and the world in general.
The goal of Wicca, as I personally see it, is living in harmony with the universe around us, aware of the divine presence in all things, including and especially the person's own being.

Wicca is not:
*Devil worship or Satanism.
*A cult.
*Anything you want it to be.
*A religion with a holy book, or a code of conduct.
*Blindly following the Wiccan Rede (An it harm none, do what ye will). Rede means advice: good advice, but just that. It is not a law, though most Wiccans do follow it.
*A religion whose sole goal is some kind of awesome afterlife.
*Goddess worship. I mean, it is, but it's also God worship, for most Wiccans (Dianic traditions aside). Balance is the key word: of the masculine and feminine, of the dark and light, of everything in the universe.
*An old, ancient religion passed down by yada yada yada. Wicca takes inspiration from older religions and practices, but it was created by Gerald Gardener. In the 50s.
*For that matter, I am just going to leave this here: The Burning Times - This was NOT a mass persecution and repression of women and/or witches by the church. In fact, current studies are showing that secular, NOT church, courts did the vast majority of executions.... There were not 9 million women killed; the current figures suggest more like 40,000 to 100,000, mostly Christians who pissed someone off. (From here.)
*A religion based around magic or witchcraft, though many Wiccans do practice magic.
*A religion you must be initiated into, or have a coven to practice, though many Wiccans do.
*Easy to define!

What I think magic is: The use of spellwork, visualization, and such tools to manipulate the energy of the universe, to bring things you want or send away things you don't from your life (or someone else's).

Magic is not:
*Something every Wiccan does.
*Actually reliant on tools, or even on words: If you have the focus, silent spellwork worked entirely in visualization can be quite powerful! We're just not all that focused. The tools are just that: tools, to help.
*Spelt with a k, though I understand the principle behind people using "magick" to distiguish from pop culture ideas of magic.
*For that matter: Just about anything you've seen in movies or tv shows. It is not instant gratification, usually. It is not special powers -- though plenty of people can do things you wouldn't believe, it very rarely works the same way it does on your screen; nor is it the result of a pact with a devil or some special bloodline.
*Divided into black and white magic. All magic can be used in good and bad ways, and by the way, dark? Is not bad. Protection and banishing spells are not evil for being darker than healing and good luck spells, and love spells targeting a specific person is not good for being "lighter" than a banishing-negativity spell.
*Something I think anyone can fully understand and comprehend -- theories on how it works can't really be more than that, theories.

A Witch is a practitioner of magic and witchcraft, no matter their religious beliefs.

1. AUs. All the AUs. Every AU. Give me role-switch and what-if-they-did-this-a-little-different and what-if-they-did-this-a-lot-different and suddenly-we're-werewolves and crossovers and fusions and genderswaps and BDSMverse and slavefic and for-want-of-a-nail and this-is-our-canon-in-space and this-is-our-canon-but-they're-private-detectives now.... Seriously, I am painfuly easy for AUs.

2. Listfic. Five times this happened, five things that never happened to, five times this didn't happen and one time it did, five ways it could have happened -- I don't care the premise, I don't care if each number is a sentance or a thousand word fic of its own. Listfic is another thing I am painfully easy for.

3. Polyamory, poly families. Especially if not all relationships there in are sexual (whether asexual but romantic, or friendly/siblingly relationship within a larger poly family). Especially the development thereof.

4. Worship. Not neccessarily sexual -- or even romantic, if you want to do that. Religious undertones (or overtones) welcome. Just give me someone (or someones) making someone else the focus of all attention and a lot of adoration.

5. Marks of ownership, possessiveness, claiming, etc. Whether literally marks -- bites, bruises, tattoos, scars -- or an object -- collars, or something else given with the same general purpose, hell, even wedding rings could probably fall into this for the right people -- or... anything else, really. Be as creative as you want. The show of possessiveness/ownership (which, take ownership as literal as you'd like -- just a possessive partner, dom, keeper of some kind, owner by other person's consent, owner against other person's consent, owner who actually bought said person, whatever) is what I'm looking for.

With all of them, I'd prefer sex to be non-graphic -- I'm not much for explicit smut.

I am belatedly stealing this from my partner, because I can, because it'd be nice to think about my verses, and because the end of my spring break my mother and I are shutting ourselves in to have an epic three-plus days try-to-get-to-writing session and I need to figure out what I'm trying to write.

So.

Ask me about my original verses. Ask me questions about the world, the people who live there, mechanics, themes, anything you want.

Academyverse: A group of very altered and, for the most part, barely still human survivors from a fucked-up school try to make it on the run. Contains personified emotions, psychics, insanity, travel, escape, torture, sensory loss, and all the chosen family themes ever.

All Through the Night: In which some people can do special things, some other people are trying to develop defenses and reign them in without their knowledge, and Morgan really needs to poke at more than two people in this verse. Contains bodyguards in a dub-con sort of fashion, travel, magic/psychic abilities, some sort of scientific facility, and fuck only knows what else right now.

Angels Unawares: Every year, angels come of age and, as per an old tradition, are sent to Earth as last trial before adulthood. Left somewhere on Earth to go through a personal ordeal, they stumble their way through dealing with humanity and sometimes fight to control abilities that never had this many triggers in Heaven. And some of them feel a call, pulling them towards parts unknown, that may or may not be part of the trial, or may just be an old myth that's more real than anyone thought. Contains angelic tribes and lots of coming-of-age themes.

Civil-verse: The one where there are ranks of angels, the ones in charge are more interested in having fun than running things, the secretaries and underlings run the world and are occasionally fucking terrifying, the devils are really angels and like to do their jobs with class, and sometimes angels do something terrible and get themselves kicked out. Contains loooots of angel bureaucracy and other than that, I am not sure.

Come Stand By Me: In which there are training houses across the world for people who aren't human to stay safe and, if they'd like, learn to blend into humanity. Some are halfway houses of a sort, some just train you and send you on, and more than you would hope are dangerous, cults, or useless. Contains banshees and fae and werewolves and sirens and brownies and sprites and mermaids and more, oh my. And also a bed-and-breakfast run by humans that draws in more non-humans than any other customers.

the Dance Carries On: In which fae/god-like-beings/who knows what they want to call themselves are split into vaguely different but distinct categories, and each one has its own job to keep the world running. Contains the Trees, the Times, the Seasons, the Sins and Virtues, and the Questions.

Fail Demons: Angels and demons exist; there's no difference between the labels, except the demons are either really bad at their jobs, or really good at jobs that scare people or that they disapprove of. Contains sooooo many angels it's headache inducing, and riffing off various mythologies.

Footprints in the Sand: God left the world in the early stages, but he left a plan for us. The angels are trying to follow it and ignoring that all but the oldest of their ranks are fucked up. The demons take offense to God thinking he knows best. Everyone else just tries to get along. Contains lots of species, infant and child death (mentioned frequently, both natural causes and not), various forms of insanity, and lots of dysfunction all around.

Greyhaven-verse: In which an author is sucked into his own post-apocalyptic story and discovers his characters, and his world, are really not what he thought. Contains lots of high fantasy cliches.

the Group: Sometimes people are born with special abilities. And the stronger those abilities are, the more toll they'll take on their body, and the younger their body will give out. Contains a group of eight who are together and taking care of each other, and a plot still to be discovered.

Myths-verse: Greek gods exist. (Other gods might too, but the Greeks are the focus here.) They influence the world. They have churches, sometimes in places you might not expect. They have children, demigods around the world, shaped by what their parents are and represent. Contains all the demigods, and lots of interesting unintentional churches and a few intentional ones.

Personifications-verse: When the personification of Death goes missing, his daughter, who never knew what he was, has to go into his home realm to try and find him. Along the way, she, a friend, and a servant of her father's encounter the various personifications that exist in and lord over the realm, makes allies, makes enemies, and do their best to unravel what's going on. Contains lots of personifications, and some kind of epic curse.

Sentient Magic: In which magic is a disease, or maybe a parasite. Once you're infected, you have to deal with its presence in your brain. This is how people deal with it. Contains non-human beings, magical human beings, humans and creatures so non-magical they can see the fact that others are, and magic being a character in its own right.

War Angels: In which angels are at war, and either fighting for control, or just trying to survive and stay out of the line of fire. Contains more angel bureaucracy, war themes, and an angel who has been nicknamed 'cheesy angel', which should tell you something about him.

And I left out RP verses and a few shared worlds, so if you know anything about those, they're free to be asked for as well.

I've been rather awful about talking to people lately, and I know it. It's a depression thing, mostly, but it's not a not wanting to thing. It's just hard, to reach out, to say something, to tell myself it's okay and it won't be bothering people.

I'm working on it. I'm working on a lot of things but right now I am trying to work on this, because I'm also feeling isolated and lonely and a little bit desperate for contact. So, I am stealing this from my partner, who stole it from someone else. Please take advantage to talk about anything you need to or want to.

Do you have something you want to talk about? It doesn't have to be a scandalous or secretive topic -- it can be a frippery, a conversation built around something pretty, a question of prose or writing, a recounting of something that happened in your life which you want to laugh or complain about. 1. Sources of income. I am currently looking for editing work, and I also offer tarot readings. I need a job so badly it hurts, and getting some work would be an amazing thing.

2. Things drawn for me, whether it's scene from something I wrote, characters of mine, or just something that reminds you of me. I cannot draw at all, and it would be kind of amazing to see somebody draw things for me.

3. Graphics and/or vids made for me. This I have some talent with, but I'm not that great, and again, it would just be kind of amazing, whether it's from my writing, or my characters, or just things that make you think of me.

4. Things for my altar, whether they are obviously Pagan/Wiccan, obviously spiritual, or not. Things that give you a sense of calm or peace, things that represent elements or deities, things that feel spiritual to you even if they aren't clearly meant to be.... Whatever you'd like. I'm currently searching for deities to connect to, but I strongly associate with water and have been moving closer to the element of earth lately, I feel drawn to healing and protection magic, and I've been told I have a third eye and had experiences that make me think I'm mildly psychic.

5. Along the same lines but more specifically: I would really love one of these gorgeous necklaces on Etsy to use as a token when I dedicate myself to my religious search, but I cannot afford anything right now.

6. Yet more on the topic of spirituality, guided meditations and/or resources to research various deities and pantheons would be awesome. Links to blogs about people's religious journeys/practices would also be nice, especially if they are some form of Pagan/Wiccan/Witch.

7. A paid DW account. I wouldn't mind paid accounts for any of the kids currently or soon-to-be in-game in BTR, either; it'd be kind of nice to have. (You can see who I've got in-game here, and I'm hoping to get the first three people on my soon list in by the end of the month.)

8. DVDs. Especially seasons of sitcoms (I like How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory for things currently airing, and a lot of older 90s sitcoms now in reruns, like Fresh Prince, the Nanny, Friends, Golden Girls), or movies you think I would enjoy. Or the Black Donnellys. That is the big TV box set I keep swearing up and down I will buy when I get the money and never getting comfortable enough to buy.

9. Fannish or otherwise geeky shirts. I really like having clothes that feel like they belong to me, and most of my clothes don't.

10. Links to good games sites, or specific games, or to webcomics you think I'd like. Games seem to be my biggest time-wasters lately and I went on an archive binge for a couple of different webcomics recently and I'd like to go through more. Ones with a reasonable amount of strips to get through would be helpful, but since one of the comics I binged on was 2000+ strips, that's negotiable. XD

Tis the season, and since I seem to be writing again, I thought I would offer holiday fics.

So here we go. You leave me a comment with fandom and, preferably, characters/pairings you'd prefer, and optionally a prompt. I will write you fic. You're free to leave multiple requests if you'd like; I promise I will do my best to write one fic for everyone who requests, but if more than one request of yours catches my brain and my muse, you may get more than one.

So as I said in my last entry, I am aiming for upwards of 6k in writing tonight to get back towards on track. And as I don't entirely have the brain for my novel, at least until I get some writing out and into a words mode, this will probably be written in shorter stories rather than my NaNo novel.

So this is a requests/prompts post! Post prompts. Post things you'd like me to write. Post things I've said I would write but never did. I can't promise everything on here will get written, but I'm hoping prompts helps my brain work.

One note: Specifics are better than generalities. Go as general with the prompts as you like -- I love quote and song prompts, I really do -- but I am more likely to write something if you at least give me some idea of who, or at least what fandom/verse, to put with it. This goes TRIPLE if they are one word or a common phrase.

And just. I am happy. Not so much with the writing, but I am damn proud of my totals and not as displeased with the writing as I could be? So I count this as a win.

I wrote before work this morning. I am rather proud of this, because I generally do not write in the mornings. Also, I am caught up on NaNo! I am really happy with this fact. Not so happy with my writing, but that's okay.
Ni90 is about to enter the real plot; the last MC will be introduced within the next two chapters, and they just escaped. The NaNo is a couple of chapters away from introducing the secondary plot line, too. It is all very exciting. Now we'll see how well I manage to keep up with it. :D

It is two days to NaNo and my cast lists/plots were literally created yesterday. Clearly this makes it meme time.

1. Pick one or more of my characters from the three novels I am working on this month: my NaNo, my Ni90, and my backup.
2. Pick one (or as many as you'd like) number(s) from between 1 and 382.
3. I'll answer the corresponding question from this questionnaire.

So, NaNo is coming, and in one night I have developed a plot and a castlist. I have also signed up for [Bad username: novel_in_90 site=], because Charley is an awful enabler (and I love ver for it).

NaNo: In which an author is sucked into his own post-apocalyptic story and discovers his characters are really not what he thought.

Ni90: In which there is a werewolf and a fae in love and on the run from a cult-like supernatural boarding house, with the help of a siren reporter, the brownie that lives in their glovebox, occasionally the sprite that lives in the trunk, and a few other not-so-evil boarding houses and training spots. (Takes place in comestandbyme verse, aka the House.)
