Okay, I've been talking about doing this for a while now, so time to actually sign up for it. In an effort to be more present around here and to use LJ as more than just a diary or place for fandom stuff, my topic is going to be one hundred memorable life experiences, which is broad but should give me the opportunity to write about a lot of different things. Although this may include discussion of unhappy as well as happy times, the subtitle will be '100 moments where soul met body' (inspired by the Death Cab For Cutie song of the same name) which is the phrase I have always privately given to those special and rare occasions where everything in your life - physically, mentally and emotionally - connects, and you feel like the world makes perfect sense, even if just for a moment.

An entire day with nothing to do feels alien to me at this point - I've been in a weird unsettled mood all day because of it. Fortunately Em is coming over shortly for dinner and a West Wing marathon which I'm sure will snap me out of it. However, rainy days at home are good for icon-making and it's something I haven't done in ages so I spent the afternoon making Farscape icons for a 20in20 community. I feel really rusty but I've had fun being creative!

Being Canadian, I was given the Anne of Green Gables series to read at an early age, and what an impression it left. I've read a lot of books over the years, but still don't think I'll find a literary ship that affects me quite as much as Anne and Gil do. Classic boy-meets-girl, boy-taunts-girl, girl-smashes-slate-over-boy's-head-and-doesn't-admit-attraction-to-him-for-another-decade kind of romance ;) Seriously though, L. M. Montgomery's books all strike a really deep chord with me, and I particularly love the way she writes relationships. My Emily of New Moon, Pat of Silver Bush and Blue Castle books are almost as dog eared as my Anne collection! But Anne and Gil were the original and the best. Possibly because in one of those rare and felicitatious occasions where the adaptation lives up to the book, the truly sublime made-for-television movies of the novels starring Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie brought the characters even more indelibly to life. The scene in my icon will never fail to make me cry with happiness.

And I say this with great love and devotion obviously, but it kind of has to be Mulder and Scully, no? ;) Between alien abductions, familial mindfuckery, cancer, government conspiracies, and the fact that neither of them is capable of having a functional romantic relationship, you can practically see the suitcases they drag around behind them. Although I've subsequently come to appreciate and actually enjoy this episode, the deep deep angst of Never Again nearly killed me at the time.

Guh. And yet in its very dysfunctionality, their relationship was still perfectly right for them and one of television's all time greatest pairings. I don't have words for how much I love Mulder & Scully, and most of my flist will understand exactly why. Hell, this show and their relationship is the reason that I know half my flist! <3

Most recently, that happened during my epic marathon of Battlestar Galactica. And **spoiler warning** if you haven't watched it and want to avoid finding out what happened, I'd avert your eyes now. I basically cried my way through the entire finale episode, but I think I actually had to pause it and try and get a grip during that last Roslin and Adama scene. That ship absolutely suckerpunched me. I have a weakness for the 'older' ships in most shows - give me a cast of pretty young things, and you can guarantee I'll be shipping their parents ;) So they were pretty much made to order for me. I loved the slow development of their relationship - first from suspicion to respect and friendship, and then to a really powerful love. The writers and actors didn't overplay it, and we didn't even get many traditionally shippy moments until near the end, but it still added up to one of the most loving and heartfelt relationships I've ever seen on any tv show. So Laura's death just broke me in pieces. And when he put that ring on her finger? Utterly destroyed.

Truly truly epic. Just looking at those screencaps to make that made me well up. I'm not sure if I can handle a rewatch yet, but I am planning to do so eventually.

ETA: Today is Castle premiere today - yeeee!! I might not be able to watch it until Wednesday night, but I'm looking forward to this like you wouldn't want to believe. Yay for returning tv shows :D

Ross and Rachel's first kiss wins the prize. I'm sure a lot of people will have chosen this, but it genuinely is iconic. And this may be the single episode of television that I have watched most often - to this day it is the only one that I can quote entirely word for word. Friends was my second great TV show love, after Lois & Clark, and while I ultimately ended up being far more invested in Chandler and Monica than I did in Ross and Rachel, I was an absolutely hardcore shipper for those two for the first three or four seasons. I remember being completely blown away by this episode when it aired because this was before I really got into the internet in a big way so there were no spoilers - just anticipation week after week about what was going to happen. I'd waited for them to get together for what seemed like forever at this point, and I think it is really rare when something that you have been anticipating like that ends up being even better than you expected rather than a letdown. Just rewatching the YouTube clip of that scene right now, that kiss gave me butterflies all over again, so I think it deserves the top spot!

And the answer is Lily and Rick from Once & Again. I haven't talked about them on LJ for a while, but they are one of my all time OTPs. They are the kind of ship that ruins me for romance in real life - because they make it look both so realistic yet so damn unattainable. The chemistry was there from the moment they met, and never went away. I still haven't seen season 3 because for some reason I need it to be on DVD rather than downloading it, and apparently it will never be released, but I think it is also because I can't bear the thought of their story ending. But yes, they were beautiful together, and gave me butterflies every time they kissed :D I can't find any good clips on YouTube, but if you're a fan of the show you'll understand and won't need them.

I had a few options for this, but since some of them are in shows where I can stand having the sexual tension dragged out for longer, the answer ended up being a no-brainer: Booth and Brennan of course. It now seems to be at the point where the showrunners almost think it is too late, because here are two characters who are so clearly in love in a very fundamental way, but they're really really resisting taking that final step :( It doesn't have to be a show killer! I know that it often is, and it is even tougher when it is the relationship between the two leads at stake (because witness how well they've ultimately handled Hodgins and Angela), but I really believe that with Hart Hanson and other talented writers at the helm, they could do it beautifully. 4x26 demonstrated that, even if it was a dream sequence! And really, it would just be a crying shame not to get to see these two being all hot and passionate more often - they do it so goddamn well!

Whatever happens, bring on season 6. I've missed them so much over the summer.

I probably shipped other shows and movies without realising what I was doing when I was younger, but the first one that absolutely consumed me (and started my journey into the world of internet fandom) was Lois and Clark - in their New Adventures of Superman incarnation. I was 11 years old when the show premiered, very impressionable, and within about 5 minutes of watching the pilot I was head over heels in love with the pair of them. Strong independent career woman who sucks in the relationship department, literally swept off her feet by a superhero into an epic romance, and....well those are pretty much my ingredients of a perfect show! Chemistry just blazed off the pair of them, but they drew out the courtship (and the Superman reveal) just long enough to get you good and desperate without feeling like it had been dragged out for too long. I remember watching the season 2 finale where she figures out he's Superman right after Clark proposes - which is just where they left it for the longest summer of my life - and going into an absolute frenzy. I think this was probably the point where I got into the online fandom - I never understand or engaged with those IRC groups that were big at the time, but there was a messageboard called Zoomway that I lived on for three years. It was the first time I'd come across the concept of fanfic, and boy did I go down the rabbithole with that!

I'm going to stop there, because I have a feeling they may be my answer for some other questions and I need something else to say at a later stage, but I leave you with this:

This is easy, as the only thing I've been watching in the last month and a half has been Stargate SG-1, and I mean that literally. 3 or 4 episodes a day at least, and sometimes more. It's a sickness! And it has mostly been brought on by how much I love Sam and Jack together. Don't get me wrong - the show itself is fantastic. So funny, often moving, and with a cast of characters that you can't help loving and rooting for. But for me, the best part of it is the always affectionate, if sometimes exasperated, relationship between the two of them. They approach life differently in some ways - Sam's the rational scientist while Jack goes more by gut instinct and heart - but I also think they have these core underlying similarities that draw them together and make them fit as a pair. They make sense in a way that so many contrived ships on other shows don't - you really believe these two people would fall in love and stay together. Plus on a shallow note, I just love how they look together. Pretty!

I'm glad I'm blitzing the show so quickly and don't have to watch their slow burn week by week, year by year...that would have killed me! As it is, I've only just started on season 6 and know that I've got a lot of great stuff still ahead of me. I can't wait!

I just checked, and the last time I posted icons for general consumption was....March 2008. Ridiculous! And I'm so rusty since I only ever make icons for myself these days. But pookieandpookie has been waiting very patiently for me to get around to making some icons of Kerry Ellis. And since her website has some gorgeous pro shots of the Great British Songbook performances up at last, I was only too happy to oblige. I'm so sad to find out that she's singing today and a) I didn't even know about it and 2) am not there. Oh well. At least she is out there performing regularly, which is a good thing! Now she just needs to release an album....please oh please.

My holiday flights are all booked now!! This summer is going to be amazing. 9 days in NYC in June, and two weeks in Toronto in July. It will be like an old school summer break :D And within those three weeks are contained much awesomeness. The mindblowing number of shows we will be seeing in New York, plus all of the fun touristy and shopping stuff that goes along with that. And then X-Flail in Canada on July 25th!! WIN!!!!

To celebrate, X-Files icons! I've been in such a long dry spell - last time I actually posted icons must have been...early 2007? But the Anasazi/Blessing Way/Paper Clip arc inspired me ;) So 12 from those episodes, and then some other random ones I've made for myself recently.

I've been rewatching my Office season 2 DVDs this week, and really am on a kick for this show at the moment. There are still extras that I haven't got around to watching, so I had the most enjoyable time watching the cast and crew commentary for 'Valentine's Day' last night. They have so much fun with each other it's unreal. Love how they had like 20 people doing the commentary! And how much they talked about the Michael/Jan. So, more icons ;) Two posts in three days - my muse must be returning from its extended vacation.

Now I'm waiting anxiously for Studio 60 to download. It has been a loooooooong hiatus, and I'm still excited about Danny & Jordan!

It took me longer than usual for a Sorkin show, but now I'm head over heels for Studio 60. And most surprised by how much I'm loving Jordan and Danny! I'm a huge Matthew Perry fan, and Matt probably is my favourite character, but Bradley Whitford just got straight to my heart with his "I'm coming for you Jordan" speech. Hello, romantic! I'm hating hiatus already.

Also, can I take a moment to thank Aaron for making me reevaluate Amanda Peet? I was surprised by her being cast in this show because I didn't think she was someone who could speak Sorkinese, but she's a pro! Jordan is a fabulous character for her.

So naturally I had to make some icons to tide me over. And there are also a bunch of Veronica Mars ones that were hanging around my hard drive.

Lots of icons. I have so many fandoms going on at the moment that I could hardly choose what to focus on. But it ended up being Sports Night and also The Office because, well Jim and Pam! 'The Merger' was such high quality tv - I'm still buzzing from how good it was.

Felicity Huffman love never goes away. It may have been dormant for a little while, but the new season of DH has brought it back full on. So while all the other women (and men!) of Wisteria Lane are beautiful and deserving of icons, they'll only feature in this set if they share a scene with Flicka!

Why do I let myself get sucked in? Icon-making just wastes my day! But it's fun. More Moonlighting, and some House too. Mostly Cuddy, because, hello. Pretty. gaityr, I'm getting caught up on those outstanding episodes this weekend. And they certainly are outstanding - loved the one with Cameron's mercy killing. This show couldn't be any more addictive!

Why so wired?

It's 3am, and I'm just not tired at all, despite having been to a party tonight. Came back and watched a few hours of One Tree Hill. I'm just going to embrace the shame factor of loving that show ;) And now I've decided to post a bunch of random icons!

I've been trying to make Office icons for the longest time but they just don't come out as prettily as the thousands already out there. So just a small set, focusing on Jim and Pam, and Jan. And one Toby.

Then Moonlighting....because I found good caps online which saved me the effort of doing it myself! Only for a few episodes though, so I'll probably end up doing it anyway. For Anne-Lauren who has made me want to watch my DVDs again!
