Dear Yuletide Author 2015

I love you. I honestly do. You are an awesome person who makes awesome stuff, and I can't wait to read it! Anything you do, I will love. I guarantee it.

If you want to get a feel for the kind of stuff I write (which is basically the kind of stuff I like to read), here's my Fic Masterlist. If you want to see my unfiltered id, here's my Tumblr.

In general, I like character insight, vivid imagery, and wordplay. Porn is awesome, but I like it best when it does something for the characters. If you want to write porn, don't feel like you have to hold back. I'm extremely sex-positive and kink-friendly. (No scat or mpreg, though. Those are the only things I really can't get into.)

To repeat the signups for emphasis: Optional means optional. I'm trying to give you a couple of guidelines if you want them, but if your mind runs somewhere else entirely? Go for it, man! You write me anything for any of the fandoms I've requested, and I'll think you're a goddamned rock star.

Onto the requests! These are listed in the order of my signup, not in order of preference. I have no preference. Write me ANY of these things, and I will be unspeakably thrilled. I tried to be spoiler-free unless you already know what you're looking at, but just in case I've put each fandom behind its own cut tag, and Crimson Peak is allllllll the way at the bottom, since it's so new. Will that help? I dunno, but I'm trying.

Now... the fandoms!

Spy (2015)
Oh my god, this movie! What is better than awesome lady spies? I submit that there is nothing. I want all of the Susan and Nancy friendship fic (and if you wanted to do femslash oh my god, PLEASE feel free), both before and after the movie. What was the academy like? What did they do with all that beef jerky and champagne Nancy stole from 50 Cent? What did Nancy think of the Hunger Games, oh man, please tell me anything.

I would also like more of the toxic masculinity broship of Ford and Fine, particularly the overspecific prompt of the two of them having to go undercover as a couple FOR SOME REASON. We all know how Ford commits to his roles, so it's bound to be a disaster. A sexy disaster? No, probably the regular kind but I still wanna see it!

Also, if you wanted to roll a bunch of that up into one fic with all four of them, that would be so amazing I can't even deal.

Hamilton - Miranda
I've been fascinated by Alexander Hamilton since I was in high school, to the point where it has actually threatened my RL relationships. I'm also an actor with a focus on musical theatre, and a rap enthusiast, and so basically what LMM has created is the most perfect intersection of my interests that I have ever encountered. And I'm SO PSYCHED that there are so many other people on this trolley with me! If you are writing this, you are already a brave and bold person and I want you to run with that. Canon is flexible (who tells your story?), and experimentation of all kinds is welcome. My dream is to read my very first and all time OT3, Hamilton/Laurens/Lafayette, which the show has so obligingly made even easier to work with than the original records (which TBH are pretty easy to work with, too, especially on the Hamilton/Laurens level. Me-OW!). If that doesn't speak to you, I'm also ride or die for Hamilton/Eliza/Angelica, in both an emotional and a physical sense. But honestly? Honestly? You could write me just about anything about just about anyone and I would be 100% into it.

Penny Dreadful (TV)
ETHAN. Ethan, my precious bisexual werewolf bb! Anything about our Mr. Chandler is something I am interested in, whether it's his past in America, his romantic relationships with... anyone really, his friendship with Sembene. SEMBENE! You deserved better than what you got! Author, if you agree with me and want to write a canon-AU about Sembene, I'm pretty sure you'd be my new best friend. I would LOVE that. Also, Lily Frankenstein. I want an entire spin-off show about my beautiful undead murder machine. Really for this fandom I want character fic. The show didn't get as far into most of its characters as I wish it would have, and I yearn for more depth. But I'm also down for pretty much any pairing (m/m, m/f, f/f, multi) if you want to porn it up, as the show often does. :D

Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Full disclosure: I saw this movie twenty times in theaters. Since I obtained the blu-ray, my view count is well over thirty. As such, I've passed thinking about all the more obvious stuff and have basically come to the conclusion that I need to know more about Chicanery Night and everything he does and how he got to where he is and how he deals with that fact. I know the fanon is that he's an alcoholic, and I don't entirely buy it (though I'm sure he does enjoy a drink at the end of a long day). There must be something else at play, whether it's pride, or obligation, or fear, or some kind of inherent submissive need to serve. I don't think it's for the health and partial dental coverage, is what I'm saying. Get inside his head and make it as twisty as you like. Balem/Mr. Night welcome at whatever level of requitedness or explicitness. D/s welcomed and encouraged.

Alternatively, Famulus is a boss bitch and I love her. She doesn't so much serve Titus as she is his partner-in-crime, and I'd love to see more of her being the cleverest person in the room, splice status be damned. Pre-canon, post-canon, it's all good.

If you wanted to write a sort of crack-y "stitch and bitch" kind of thing, where Mr. Night, Famulus, and Maledictus all get together and commiserate about the Abrasax sibs. Or like an intergalactic Junior Ganymede Club. Haha, oh my god, I would love you forever. <3

Crimson Peak (2015)
I want a happy ending. And this isn't to say that the way the movie actually ended wasn't happy - Edith got to be Mary Shelley, just like she wanted, and even got her novel published. You can write me more about that, if you like. Whatever your idea of a happy ending for this movie would be. Maybe Edith is single and independent for the rest of her life. Maybe she and Alan end up together. Maybe Thomas was able to be saved, or maybe Lucille was willing to share him, and maybe all three of them managed to escape. Maybe they even learned to love each other equally. Or maybe the house gets a happy ending, with Thomas and Lucille now bound to it forever. Maybe it ensnares a new owner, and is restored to its former glory. Whatever a happy ending means to you, that is the thing I want.

I hope something up there struck your fancy. If not, then that's totally fine! Write me the story that you want to read! That you want to write! That's the story I really want to read, anyway. :D

Happy writing!

Dear Yuletide Author! (2013 Edition)

First off, you're awesome. Like, seriously awesome. Like, there haven't been words invented yet to sufficiently and accurately describe your awesomeness. No matter what you do, I will love it. I. Will. Love. It.

If you want to get a feel for the kind of stuff I write (which is basically the kind of stuff I like to read), here's my Fic Masterlist. In general, I like character insight, vivid imagery, and wordplay. Porn is awesome, but I like it best when it does something for the characters. If you wanted to write porn, don't feel like you have to hold back.

I tried to be spoiler-free, unless you already know what you're looking at. The majority of my fandoms this year are comedies, but they all have real issues and real heart at their core, so don't feel like you have to be funny if you'd rather write angst, or vice-versa. Don't feel limited by any perceived genre restrictions!

21 Jump Street (2012)
Since this movie was released on DVD, I think it has been out of my DVD player maybe twice. I watch it constantly and love it in a completely consuming and irrational fashion. I have made myself a potassium nitrate hoodie, I mean, I'm really into this movie, is what I'm saying. It is a love letter to the original source, an excellent homage, an unexpectedly satisfying sequel, and a pretty sweet action comedy all at the same time. I adore it, and can only hope that Richard Grieco plays the college dean in the sequel.

Anyway, the requests. I am way into the pairing of Jenko and Zack, whether as BroTP or OTP, and if you wanted to write me some high school science bros, I would pretty much love you forever. Slash is wonderful wonderful wonderful, and awkward "teenage" size-kinky sex would be perfection. I'll also take feelings, whether bro or romantic in nature, oh god, Jenko/Zack all the time.

If that's not your bag, no worries! Because this movie contains my favorite BroTP of all time, Jenko and Schmidt! More of them doing basically anything would be awesome. Case-fic? Do it. Sequel to the movie? Do it. Them in high school (the first time)? Go for it. Them in the police academy? Yes, please. Them just fucking around getting high or whatever? I will read a hundred thousand words of it. You want to write slash? Fuck yes. Basically anything with these two is fair game and awesome.

Captain Dickson is also awesome, all the time. And he worked his ass off to be the captain. And sometimes he gets angry. So suck a dick! Tell me more about him. :D

The Almighty Johnsons
Oh my god if you are writing this for me, you HAVE to let me know who you are on tumblr or whatever so I can flail at you about how much I love this fucking show. There are FAR too few of us flailing over this shit, and it is seriously flail-worthy. Ty is my not-so-secret favorite, and anything, anything you write me about him is something I will love. My poor, tortured icebox. :( Anders is also a favorite, natch, since he's basically Barney Stinson with the literal powers of a god. Also, everyone on this show is really, really ridiculously good-looking. Dawn! Dawn, my long-suffering love, my Pepper Potts without access to near-infinite amounts of money, oh god, I love her so much. Basically anything about the three of them, and especially their relationships to each other, would make me seal clap in joy. And yes, you can porn about any or all of them. Oh god, the three of them would be such a gorgeous disaster together, can you even imagine? So obvs incest is fine.

Alternatively, Ingrid! I fucking love Ingrid. Everyone thinks she's so eccentric and flighty and really she's got her shit together more than just about anybody else. I love that she's got this wacky shell surrounding a very competent core, and basically just want more of her doing anything at all. Or anyone. Giggity.

The World's End (2013)
This movie. Okay, maybe it wasn't the best movie ever, but it hit me completely sideways and close to home in a way I wasn't expecting. Never really thought I'd go home from a Simon Pegg movie and cry for an hour, but there you go. 0_o Goddamn. So what I'm really looking for here is relationship fic (friendship is a relationship, too) between Gary and Andy. I feel like the movie (by necessity) sped over a lot of their development, and I want to see more of it. How exactly did they get from best friends to bitter strangers to reluctant partners to bros to estranged best friends again? The movie gave us the broad strokes, but I'd love to see some of the lines filled back in. Teenage fic and future fic are both totally welcome, as well as fic occurring within the events of the film. Don't be afraid to go dark, as many of the things these two have been through have been extremely dark and intense. And don't be afraid to involve the rest of the crew as well. I know I didn't list them, but I love everyone in this movie.

I also have to confess that, when I saw this movie, for the first time ever I had to take a minute to consider the stealth hotness of Paddy Considine. More Steven/Sam, please, and if you wanted to do something with the delusional charisma of Gary King in all that, I would love it. Any time period is awesome.

Vikings
Ugh. The show that fucking broke everyone who watched it. Ugh, it was so good and so upsetting and oh my god. But! I would rather not have upsetting fic for this fandom. I want crazy Ragnar/Aethelstan porn, and crazy Ragnar/Lagertha porn, and crazy Lagertha/Aethelstan porn, and OF COURSE I want some crazy Ragnar/Lagertha/Aethelstan porn. D/s, femdom, sadism, masochism, perversion of religious imagery, dub-con, unsafe sex... like, anything but scat and mpreg and I'm there. Anything. As long as it's Ragnar and/or Lagertha just topping the fuck out of Aethelstan, and Aethelstan being enthusiastically (if reluctantly) into it, oh man, I am there. If you don't want to be explicit about it, I will also enjoy any/all of these things in a more general relationship sense.

Don't want to write porn, or want to write porn about someone else? Floki. Floki is one of my favorite characters in anything ever. Equal parts mysterious and ridiculous, hyper-competent, possibly magical, high all the time, sexy as hell... yeah, I want more Floki. Whatever he's doing is awesome. I ship Floki/everyone, including the boat. Maybe especially the boat.

I hope something up there struck your fancy. If not, then that's totally fine! Write me the story that you want to read! That you want to write! Like I said, you write me anything for any of these fandoms, and I'll think you're a goddamned rock star. :D

Happy writing!

The 85th Annual Academy Awards

As I did last year, here are my initial picks for the Oscar winners. Format nicked with permission from rezendi.

Nominees for the 85th Academy Awards

Best Picture
"Amour" Nominees TBD
"Argo" Grant Heslov, Ben Affleck and George Clooney, Producers
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" Dan Janvey, Josh Penn and Michael Gottwald, Producers
"Django Unchained" Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone, Producers
"Les Misérables" Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward and Cameron Mackintosh, Producers
"Life of Pi" Gil Netter, Ang Lee and David Womark, Producers
"Lincoln" Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, Producers
"Silver Linings Playbook" Donna Gigliotti, Bruce Cohen and Jonathan Gordon, Producers
"Zero Dark Thirty" Mark Boal, Kathryn Bigelow and Megan Ellison, Producers
Will win: Les Misérables, Argo, or Lincoln
Should win: Beasts of the Southern Wild, anything but Silver Linings Playbook
Note: Are you fucking kidding me with Silver Linings Playbook? Really? With that excepted, this is actually a tighter race than it seems. I don't think Life of Pi will take this, though it will likely take Cinematography and possibly Director. I know it seems like a cop-out that I'm picking three, but it's too close right now for me to tell. Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to mention that I will once again be doing the Best Picture marathon at AMC, and considering the combined runtimes of these films is nearly 22 hours, it will likely be a grueling 26 hour day full of movies that make me want to kill myself, and Beasts of the Southern Wild. Sweet!

Best Actor
Bradley Cooper in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln"
Hugh Jackman in "Les Misérables"
Joaquin Phoenix in "The Master"
Denzel Washington in "Flight"
Will win: Daniel Day-Lewis
Should win: Daniel Day-Lewis or Hugh Jackman
Note: This is a two-man race. I love Denzel, but Flight was not remarkable; The Master was awful, and again, are you fucking kidding me with Silver Linings Playbook? Jackman might take this, but against the established force that is Daniel Day-Lewis, I think a musical actor is a long shot.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin in "Argo"
Robert DeNiro in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Philip Seymour Hoffman in "The Master"
Tommy Lee Jones in "Lincoln"
Christoph Waltz in "Django Unchained"
Will win: Christoph Waltz
Should win: Waltz or Tommy Lee Jones
Note: This is a tough one to call, actually. A lot of seasoned actors who turned in some really banner performances. I'm saying Waltz now, because of the Globes and the relatively few noms for Django, but I'm not 100% sold on it. The Academy tends to skew a little more conservative, so this might be Jones's year. He hasn't won an Oscar since 1994, so who knows. Alan Arkin was great, but I'm not sure it's enough against this crew.

Best Actress
Jessica Chastain in "Zero Dark Thirty"
Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Emmanuelle Riva in "Amour"
Quvenzhané Wallis in "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
Naomi Watts in "The Impossible"
Will win: Jessica Chastain
Should win: Jessica Chastain
Note: I would love, LOVE to see Quvenzhané Wallis take this, but it's never gonna happen. Emmanuelle Riva may have been great, but the Academy has only given a Best Actress nod to a foreign language film twice in its history (1961 - Sophia Loren for "Two Women" and 2007 - Marion Cotillard "La Vie En Rose", if you're curious). I know Jennifer Lawrence took a Globe, but she won't win out when she and Chastain are in direct competition.

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams in "The Master"
Sally Field in "Lincoln"
Anne Hathaway in "Les Misérables"
Helen Hunt in "The Sessions"
Jacki Weaver in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Will win: Anne Hathaway
Should win: Anne Hathaway
Note: Hathaway was in her own league in Les Mis. Sally Field is my dark horse, because she was amazing in Lincoln, but I think Anne's got it this year.

Best Director
"Amour" Michael Haneke
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" Benh Zeitlin
"Life of Pi" Ang Lee
"Lincoln" Steven Spielberg
"Silver Linings Playbook" David O. Russell
Will win: Benh Zeitlin
Should win: anyone but David O. Russell
Note: This is a tough one. I'm surprised that Ben Affleck didn't get a nod for Argo. That said, man, this could go a lot of different ways. Lee and Spielberg are both heavy hitters, and a lot of critics have a special hard on for Haneke. I'm calling it for Zeitlin partly because of wishful thinking, and partly because I don't think Beasts... is going to get all the attention it deserves.

Best Documentary
"5 Broken Cameras" Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi
"The Gatekeepers" Nominees TBD
"How to Survive a Plague" Nominees TBD
"The Invisible War" Nominees TBD
"Searching for Sugar Man" Nominees TBD
Will win: The Invisible War
Should win: The Invisible War
Note: The Invisible War has gotten a lot of excellent buzz (it's the one about rape in the military you've seen going around on Facebook/Tumblr), and it's a really solid doc. But it's really controversial, which could help it or hurt it, depending on how the Academy swings this year. Once again, the doc I worked on never made it off the shortlist, but that's two years in a row we've had one make a showing. Come on, 2014!

Best Foreign Film
"Amour" Austria
"Kon-Tiki" Norway
"No" Chile
"A Royal Affair" Denmark
"War Witch" Canada
Will win: Amour
Should win: probably Amour
Note: To be honest, I didn't see most of these, so I'm calling it based on the fact that Amour will not win Best Picture. Although, haha, Norway made a movie about the Kon-Tiki? That's awesome!

Best Adapted Screenplay
"Argo" Screenplay by Chris Terrio
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" Screenplay by Lucy Alibar & Benh Zeitlin
"Life of Pi" Screenplay by David Magee
"Lincoln" Screenplay by Tony Kushner
"Silver Linings Playbook" Screenplay by David O. Russell
Will win: Argo
Should win: anything but Silver Linings Playbook
Note: This is another tough one, but I think it might be one of the few categories that Argo can take. Tony Kushner, though, that's pedigree. And I didn't realize that Beasts.. was an adaptation watching it, but I think its strength was truly in the visual categories and not the writing. Same with Life of Pi. I will honestly be happy with anything but Silver Linings Playbook winning this category.

Best Original Screenplay
"Amour" Written by Michael Haneke
"Django Unchained" Written by Quentin Taratino
"Flight" Written by John Gatins
"Moonrise Kingdom" Written by Wes Anderson & Roman Coppola
"Zero Dark Thirty" Written by Mark Boal
Will win: Django Unchained
Should win: Django Unchained or Moonrise Kingdom
Note: Can Wes Anderson muster enough voters outraged by the omission of Moonrise Kingdom from every other major category to propel it to victory over the Tarantino powerhouse? Sources point to no.

As for the rest, I think Adele will take the Best Original Song for "Skyfall," that's just a given. Also, having seen all of the nominees for Best Animated Short, "Paperman" is going to take it. I love that little film SO MUCH. Animated Feature is a little tougher, but as much as I'd love to see "Wreck-It Ralph" take it, I think it's actually a race between "Brave" and "Paranorman," and "Brave" is gonna come out on top. Score is a toss-up, but I think "Life of Pi" might take it. I'll have opinions on Live Action and Documentary shorts after this weekend, I'm sure. If anyone wants my opinions on the design and technical categories, just ask. As you can clearly see, I'll talk your damn ear off about this stuff.

My folks went to bed around 9:30 last night, and I decided I'd go in my room and curl up on the bed and get some revisions done on my Yuletide. But instead I got in bed and fell right the fuck to sleep, stayed there until nearly 3 am, got up and went to the bathroom and thought "I'll stay up for a bit now and get some work done." LOL, nope. Sleeping again. Got up at 8:30 because I heard the coffeemaker go on. 0_o

So tonight. Tonight I will finish my revisions. And additions, TBH, I kind of posted the thing without the middle just to make the deadline.

But now, there is coffee and french toast. And later there is shopping.

If you can't say something nice...

My office is apparently planning to branch out into the field of cold storage, as I'm pretty sure I could hang a slab of beef over my desk right now and it would be kept within the recommended temperatures for food safety. I can't feel the tip of my nose. I am wearing jeans and a sweater. This shouldn't be.

Been kind of radio silent lately as part of a new attempt at keeping myself positive. As most of the time I have to update LJ is company time, and my company makes me HOMICIDALLY ANGRY on a daily basis, staying positive hasn't always been an option. But I am trying.

Health concerns continue apace. Another follow-up tonight, which will likely result in more antibiotics. Not looking forward to that, but I'm looking forward to being done with whatever this is before Christmas. That's my goal, anyway. Of course, since we don't know exactly WHAT this is, that's kind of difficult, but again, I'm trying to stay positive. If there's one piece of advice I can give to all you ladies out there, it's that you should see your ladyparts doctor at least once a year. No excuses. Don't be like me and get poor and skip it for a few years, because then when something DOES go wrong, there's a whole lot more work involved in sussing it out, and a whole lot scarier list of things it could be. :/

Is this positive? I think it's pretty positive, actually.

Dear Yuletide Writer

First off, you're awesome. Like, seriously awesome. Like, there haven't been words invented yet to sufficiently and accurately describe your awesomeness. No matter what you do, I will love it.

If you want to get a feel for the kind of stuff I write (which is basically the kind of stuff I like to read), here's my Fic Masterlist. In general, I like character insight, vivid imagery, and wordplay. Porn is awesome, but not a requirement. But, y'know, if you wanted to write porn, don't feel like you have to hold back or anything. I'm extremely sex-positive and kink-friendly. (No scat or mpreg, though. Those are the only things I really can't get into.)

To repeat the signups for emphasis: Optional means optional. I'm trying to give you a couple of guidelines, if you want them, but if your mind runs somewhere else entirely? Go for it, man! Like I said, NO MATTER WHAT I will love what you write!

Onto the requests! These are listed in the order of my signup, not in order of preference. I have no preference. Write me ANY of these things, and I will be unspeakably thrilled. I tried to be spoiler-free, unless you already know what you're looking at.

Haywire (2011)
Movie. Of. My Heart. To copy-paste from my original response to the film:

Mallory Kane is a female action hero the likes of which I have never seen before. At any given time, she is not just the only woman in the room, but she is the most competent, the most clever, and the deadliest person in the room. Anyone who cast aspersions or has doubts about her because of her gender learns a very decisive lesson about why they shouldn't do that. She is confident in herself, her identity, her abilities, her sexuality, and she owns every single inch of it. She isn't seduced by Aaron (Channing Tatum), rather, she saw something she wanted and went for it. SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THAT. She's not helpless, she's not dependent on anyone, though neither does she hesitate to call for help when she needs it.
So. Yeah. I'm a big fan of Mallory. Write her like that, and you can pretty much do ANYTHING else. I love the relationship between her and her dad, and would love to see it explored further. John is a badass in his own right, and I'd love anything exploring his character. Is he a single father? How does he feel about Mallory's career choices (other than proud as hell, which is obvious. :D)?

But Mallory. Yes. Pair her with someone or don't. Anything is awesome. Though I can't help wondering what would happen if Scott ran into her again... That poor kid.

I would also like to know more about Paul, you know, his side of the story. It's clear he made some MASSIVE incorrect assumptions about Mallory, and I'm curious if that's all down to misogyny (which it may well be), or if there was something that gave him the idea that she was weaker than she is. If you wanted to write Paul/Kenneth, where Kenneth is all fucked up on the rebound and muddled by thoughts of revenge or possibly a flashback where they've worked together before and maybe Paul had to be the arm candy for some reason and had his reasons for going along with it... well, that would also be pretty awesome. ^_^

Shame (2011)
I really loved this movie, but I couldn't help but think that parts of it were woefully underexplored. I felt at times that a much more interesting movie was happening just parallel to this one; that Cissy's story was so much more shocking and awful than Brandon's, and I would like to see it. I feel like, while Brandon is incapable of sexual relations with someone he genuinely cares about, that Cissy went the opposite way, and is incapable of showing her love without a sexual component. What happened to them that made them this way? How are Cissy's actions going to affect Brandon from now on? You began to see a shift at the end of the film, but was it really change?

All of the sibling fic. ALL of it. Incest is go, explicit sex (if you can get there) is totally go. Mindfuck, kink, angst, self-harm... Go as far as you want to with these two. I promise I will be right there with you.

Looper (2012)
This is not a time-travel movie. This is a multi-verse movie. As such, I choose to interpret it as an open canon. Do you feel the same way? Do you wonder how the futures being created by Old Joe's actions differ from the future he left? How Joe's actions in the present change the person he would become/Old Joe's motivations (which I know is explored in the film but can always be done MORE)? What else might've closed the loop in a way that DOESN'T result in the end of the world? Man, I wonder a lot of things about this universe. What's Abe's deal (other than he's awesome)? I want to know more about him. Kid Blue? Seth, oh man, that poor fucker. Anything with Sara and Cid, past, present and/or future. Anything with Joe, Old or not, and why he does the things he does. Was a happy ending for everyone ever a possibility? Was the ending we got actually THE happy ending? So many universes...

Man, I feel like I'm articulating this one especially badly. You saw the movie, Awesome Writer of Awesome. I hope you can parse some kind of meaning out of any of this. Anything you write is going to be great. I have faith in you. :D

Eastwick (TV)
God, I still miss my trashy witch show. If you want to write me Eastwick, then you're probably the kind of person who doesn't object to kinky coven group sex. At least, I hope not, because I would REALLY love that. Get Darryl in there with Roxie, Joanna, and Kat. Hell yes. I would also love Darryl/Roxie, Darryl/Roxie/Chad (OT3 of my heart), Joanna/Will, Joanna/Penny, Joanna/Kat, Joanna/Kat/Roxie, Darryl/anybody... Basically porn. Crazy, kinky porn. If you don't want to write porn, that's okay, too. There are some pretty awesome characters and friendships in this series, and I didn't get enough of ANY of them. So write what you want to explore/know more about, and I'll love reading it. ^_^

Also, hey, remember that time Darren Criss was Roxie's daughter's boyfriend and nobody knew who he was yet? Hilarious. :D

The 84th Annual Academy Awards

With the blessing of rezendi, I have nicked his format for this Academy Awards post. So without further ado...

Nominees for the 84th Academy Awards

Best Picture
"The Artist" Thomas Langmann, Producer
"The Descendants" Jim Burke, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, Producers
"Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" Scott Rudin, Producer
"The Help" Brunson Green, Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan, Producers
"Hugo" Graham King and Martin Scorsese, Producers
"Midnight in Paris" Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum, Producers
"Moneyball" Michael De Luca, Rachael Horovitz and Brad Pitt, Producers
"The Tree of Life" Nominees to be determined
"War Horse" Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, Producers
Will win: The Artist
Should win: The Artist
Note: I don't understand how some of these got nominated, yet Hollywood couldn't find a tenth movie deserving of a nomination. -_- Fun fact: The Artist will be the first silent film to win an Academy Award since the very first Awards in 1929! Yeah, I said "will." Golden Globe AND the PGA? Please.

Best Actor
Demián Bichir in "A Better Life"
George Clooney in "The Descendants"
Jean Dujardin in "The Artist"
Gary Oldman in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"
Brad Pitt in "Moneyball"
Will win: Jean Dujardin
Should win: Jean Dujardin
Note: I have a sinking suspicion that George Clooney will actually take this one, but I'm refusing to give that idea credence. Jean Dujardin deserves every damn award they make and some they don't for his performance in The Artist.

Best Supporting Actor
Kenneth Branagh in "My Week with Marilyn"
Jonah Hill in "Moneyball"
Nick Nolte in "Warrior"
Christopher Plummer in "Beginners"
Max von Sydow in "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"
Will win: Christopher Plummer
Should win: Nick Nolte
Note: Seriously, you guys should see Warrior. Also, way to get a nom, Jonah Hill!

Best Actress
Glenn Close in "Albert Nobbs"
Viola Davis in "The Help"
Rooney Mara in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
Meryl Streep in "The Iron Lady"
Michelle Williams in "My Week with Marilyn"
Will win: Meryl Streep
Should win: Meryl Streep
Note: Will Michelle Williams please just go away already? She's never impressed me in anything, ever. But this is Meryl Streep's year, regardless of the dim critical opinion of the movie. She's the Susan Lucci of the Oscars, and hasn't won since Sophie's Choice, and she definitely deserves it.

Best Supporting Actress
Bérénice Bejo in "The Artist"
Jessica Chastain in "The Help"
Melissa McCarthy in "Bridesmaids"
Janet McTeer in "Albert Nobbs"
Octavia Spencer in "The Help"
Will win: Octavia Spencer
Should win: Octavia Spencer, or maybe Janet McTeer
Note: Bérénice Bejo is kind of a dark horse, but I don't think she had a substantial enough role in The Artist to be thought of in the same category as Octavia, Janet, and Jessica. Melissa McCarthy, I would love it if you won, but you're not going to. Sorry.

Best Director
"The Artist" Michel Hazanavicius
"The Descendants" Alexander Payne
"Hugo" Martin Scorsese
"Midnight in Paris" Woody Allen
"The Tree of Life" Terrence Malick
Will win: Michel Hazanavicius
Should win: Michel Hazanavicius
Note: As far as I'm concerned, this is no-contest. I am surprised at the lack of a nom for Steve McQueen. Whatever you thought of the movie, Shame was beautifully, boldly, and uniquely directed. He wouldn't have beaten Hazanavicius, but it's an honor just to be nominated, you know.

Best Documentary
"Hell and Back Again" Danfung Dennis and Mike Lerner
"If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front" Marshall Curry and Sam Cullman
"Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory" Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky
"Pina" Wim Wenders and Gian-Piero Ringel
"Undefeated" TJ Martin, Dan Lindsay and Richard Middlemas
Will win: Hell and Back Again. Marines are hot this year, and it's a solid doc
Should win: Hell and Back Again.
Note: I'm just sad the documentary I helped work on didn't make it off the short list. ;_;

Best Foreign Film
"Bullhead" Belgium
"Footnote" Israel
"In Darkness" Poland
"Monsieur Lazhar" Canada
"A Separation" Iran
Will win: A Separation
Should win: I haven't seen enough to tell, but probably A Separation.
Note: No Almodovar love? What the hell, guys?

Best Adapted Screenplay
"The Descendants" Screenplay by Alexander Payne and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash
"Hugo" Screenplay by John Logan
"The Ides of March" Screenplay by George Clooney & Grant Heslov and Beau Willimon
"Moneyball" Screenplay by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin Story by Stan Chervin
"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" Screenplay by Bridget O'Connor & Peter Straughan
Will win: The Descendants
Should win: The Ides of March or Moneyball
Note: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy might take this one, actually. I don't know if it's the cinematography and direction that ruined that whole film for me, or if the adaptation is actually as weak as I thought it was, but I don't think it deserves a win. Seriously, y'all, go watch the 1979 mini with Alec Guinness. You can see all the actors in this movie do WAY BETTER JOBS in other movies.

Best Original Screenplay
"The Artist" Written by Michel Hazanavicius
"Bridesmaids" Written by Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig
"Margin Call" Written by J.C. Chandor
"Midnight in Paris" Written by Woody Allen
"A Separation" Written by Asghar Farhadi
Will win: The Artist
Should win: The Artist
Note: I also enjoyed Margin Call and Midnight in Paris, and Bridesmaids (LOL, okay), but The Artist was brilliant in ways I have long despaired of Hollywood ever being again, and a lot of that was down to the script. I thought Shame would have gotten a nod here, too, but oh well. It wasn't going to win, anyway.

I think The Artist will take Oscars for Costume Design, Film Editing, and Music (Original Score) isn't even a contest. It might make off with Art Direction, but I think Hugo is going to be some pretty stiff competition in that category. Janusz Kaminski might take cinematography for War Horse, though Hugo made a strong showing there, as well. I'm surprised that there are only two nominees in the category Original Song, and neither is that haunting lullaby by Glenn Close and Sinead O'Connor from Albert Nobbs. I was looking forward to hearing that live.

For those concerned, my computer is still fubar, I'm even more furious than before, but that will be for another post at another time.

Preditors & Editors Readers Choice Poll

Candlemark and Gleam, the lovely publisher behind (re)Visions: Alice, is up for some awards over at the Preditors & Editors Readers Choice Poll.

(re)Visions: Alice is eligible for Anthology, and Candlemark & Gleam itself is up for Publisher. In the realm of books I haven't read but I'm sure are awesome, Hickey of the Beast by Isabel Kunkle is up for YA, and Natania Barron's Pilgrim of the Sky is up for Sci Fi/Fantasy. Pilgrim of the Sky is also up for Best Book Art, and I can tell you, the cover is really stunning.

Voting closes today, so help a small publisher out!

http://critters.org/predpoll/antho.shtml
http://critters.org/predpoll/ebookpublisher.shtml
http://critters.org/predpoll/novelyoungadult.shtml
http://critters.org/predpoll/novelsf.shtml
http://critters.org/predpoll/bookart.shtml

Dear Yuletide Author!

You are amazing! That's it, that's the most important thing for you to know. You're awesome. ^_^

What's that? You want a little more direction? Well, all right! Here goes...

ETA 11-22-11: I have no "favorite fandom" out of the three I requested. Good lord, that would be like asking me to pick what I liked best out of dill pickles, Converse hi-tops, and NASA. 0_o There's just no comparison! I love all three of them equally and will be TOTALLY PSYCHED to read anything you write. Anything! I promise! [/paranoid clarification]

1. The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996)

Okay, if this is what you're writing for me, you are totally amazing and I already love it, I guarantee you. This movie has been my guilty pleasure for fifteen years now, literally half my life, and I've been looking for good fic for at least ten of those years. So you rock! ^_^ This movie is inherently dark and twisty, filled with all kinds of dub-con and non-con and drug use and gore and implied bestiality, and I love it. With this movie, I want you to take anything from canon that speaks to you and just run with it. Don't worry about it being too much. I assure you, it is not.

Things I would love to see include: Douglas/Montgomery (slash or gen, their interplay is really fascinating to me and I LOVE both of these characters), Montgomery/basically anybody (including himself, I don't even care, he's my favorite character and I just want more of him), Douglas/Aissa (because it's equal parts sweet and fucked up), and anything about the beast people, in particular the ones who live in the house, the difference between Azazello and M'Ling (so precious!), anything like that.

2. The Baker (2007)

Isn't this movie just the best? It's so charming and hilarious, and stars two of my favorite actors of all time, Damian Lewis and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. So, no surprise then that I want to see some Milo/Bjorn. Bjorn is clearly carrying an Olympic-sized torch, and I wanna know exactly why. Give me something with these guys before the events of the movie. UST is great, porn is extra hot great (seriously), even just some mostly gen one-sided pining would be amazing. Really, anything is wonderful with this movie. Just have fun!

3. The Fall (2006)

I'm just going to copy-paste what I wrote last year, because it all still applies. ^_^

Pretty much anything goes here. It's such a breathtaking film, one of my all-time favorites, and I just want to know more about everything. I'm particularly interested in Darwin (Wallace, too, of course ^_^) and Luigi, if you're writing in the "story," but I love everyone equally. If you'd rather write in the "real" world, I want to know Roy's story; fill in what happened before the accident, and where he goes after the film. I have my ideas, but I'd love to read yours.

So... yeah. Anything goes! Just give me more. I am completely insatiable when it comes to this film, and even when it's breaking my heart, I never want it to end. If you're writing this for me, I'm sure you know exactly what I mean.

In general, I like insightful character pieces, twisty psychology, vivid imagery and character interaction. I'm a total slut for good dialogue. I love all ratings! If you're going to go with smut - PWP is great as long as it's in character, porn with plot is better, porn with plot and feelings is best. Kinks are more than welcome (preferably no scat, but everything else is fair game if it fits the character.) Gen fic about relationships is something I love, too, so don't feel like you have to get smutty if you don't want to, even if you're writing a pairing.

I don't like mpreg. That's pretty much it. Excepting that, I'm an anything goes kind of girl. As long as it serves the story, or gives insight into a character, don't worry about being too dark/violent/explicit/kinky/angsty/what have you. Even a degree of crack is fine, as long as it's in character.

Above all, I want you to just have fun! Write something that you want to read, something that you love, and I guarantee I'll love it too. If you want an idea of the kind of stuff I write, here's my Fic Masterlist. It's...uh, it's pretty diverse. :D

Yours truly,

airspaniel

(Re)Visions: Alice - Pre-Orders are On Sale Now!

Public post for AMAZING news! (Re)Visions: Alice is finally available for pre-order direct from Candlemark & Gleam!

****ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY****

The pre-orders are being done through Kickstarter, which means that while it only costs $20 to receive both a print and digital copy of the anthology when it is released in October, you can contribute as much as you want, and all of the proceeds will go towards producing this awesome book, as well as supporting an incredible independent publisher. Plus, NGL, there are some pretty sweet incentives to donate more.

In case I haven't flailed at you about this project sometime in the last eight months or so, (Re)Visions: Alice is an anthology of novellas by four modern authors (including yours truly) inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. You can read blurbs about each one on the Kickstarter page.

I'm very proud of the story I wrote, and the others in the book are just amazing. It's four very unique voices and four very different directions, and even if you don't care for the original Carroll, I guarantee there is something in this book that will interest you.

So check it out.

Well, all right.

Well, the rain is long over, but the wind is still pretty serious business outside. Enough that I'm not terribly eager to go walking around in my neighborhood full of 80+ year old trees. I didn't lose power, but I guess the wind could still mess some stuff up for a few hours yet. We'll see.

Bloomberg is giving a live press conference at 12:15 to assess the situation. So I guess we'll find out then what the status of the MTA is, and how the commute on Monday looks.

Remix revealed and Five Acts IV, all in a rare public post...

So now I can share with the class that, against my better judgement, I did pick up a pinch hit for Remix Redux, and it turned out to be the longest piece of fanfiction I have ever written as a solo project.

All I Want (is to solve your puzzle)

Fandom: Supernatural. Yes, it's a Sam/Gabriel high school AU, with hints of Dean/Cas. I know.

In other, no less fannish news, toestastegood is running Round 4 of the Five Acts Meme! This is always a ton of fun, and is an awesome, low-key, no pressure way to play around with kinks and fandoms and things.

My list! Not entirely copy-pasted from the last time I did this!
- Post a list of your five favorite kinks/acts or themes you liked to read about in your journal. Inspiration can be found here. This can be writing on somebody's skin with a pen, painting, tattoos... Get 'em good and wound up; bonus points for begging.

I'm not going to worry about listing specific pairings, since I like to read basically everything. I'm just going to list the fandoms I'm most interested in reading at the moment, and if you have an idea you'd like to write for a couple or three or five of the characters, then you just go for it. ^_^

Don't worry about offending me or shocking me or displeasing me in any way. I'm pretty sure that's all impossible.

Fandoms:

Sherlock (BBC)
Hawaii 5-0
Supernatural
The Eagle
Inception
The Social Network
Star Trek (Reboot or TOS)
Doctor Who/Torchwood
Tin Man - bonus points for Zero. I can never have enough Zero.
Eastwick
BSG

My fills!
for ciaimpala - Shutter Island, Teddy/Chuck, touching, protectiveness, G
for entangled_now - Sherlock (BBC), John/Sherlock, morning after, bites/bruises/scratches, PG-13/R-ish?
for cs_whitewolf - The Eagle, Marcus/Esca, strength, rough/wall sex, kissing/heavy petting, blowjobs, NC-17

Yuletide progress... ish?

~400 words left? Check.

Barely relevant reference to incredibly graphic animated pornography? Check.

Utterly fucking ridiculous? Oh, check. Checkity-check-check.

Also, have nearly completely lost interest in writing this thing, and instead find myself wanting to write a cracked out Sherlock fic where Moriarty gets the whole idea for the Great Game from getting kind of fucked up and watching Die Hard with a Vengeance. Because he was working almost verbatim from the Simon Gruber Guide to Villainy on that one.

...now I wish the Simon Gruber Guide to Villainy existed. No, no wait, the Gruber Brothers Guide to Villainy! Tell me that wouldn't be epic.

Okay, back to work.

Dear Yuletide Santa...

You are the best.

No, seriously. You are the best, and I love you, and I am so excited that you're writing for me! I'm an easy person to please, so don't worry about that. Just have fun and write something you like, and I will flail and squee all over it and give you all of my internets. I promise. ^_^

If you want to get a feel for the kind of stuff I write (which is basically the kind of stuff I like to read), here's my Fic Masterlist. In general, I like character insight and vivid imagery and deliberate use of words. Intricate plot is great, but it's more important to me to have the story, if that makes sense.

To repeat the signups for emphasis: Optional means optional. I'm trying to give you a couple of guidelines, if you want them, but if your mind runs somewhere else entirely? Go for it, man!

That said...

My Requests

1. The Fall

2. Eleventh Hour (US)
I need more Dr. Jacob Hood in my life. I loved the relationship that developed between him and Rachel and Felix, how they functioned as a team, their banter, and their trust in each other. I'd like some more of that, shippy in any way you like if you like, but it's not necessary. Feel free to indulge your lust for technospeak and dubiously scientific jargon! If you combined all of these things into a casefic, I'd pretty much squee my pants.

3. Wild Target
How fun is this movie? I love it! So anything you wanna write is something I wanna read. I'd love something about Hector Dixon (OMG, those horrifying veneers!) and his work history, but I'd also love to read more about Victor (can you imagine his childhood?), and their rivalry. I'd love to read about Victor training Tony to carry on the family business, as it were, and I'd love to read about what happens after the film - that settling into domesticity of Victor, Rose, and Tony as a family unit; how they all fit into it. Because it's brilliant.

4. Eastwick
Okay, for this? Give me porn. Want to write an orgy with Darryl and the coven (past or present)? DO IT. Want to write Chad and Darryl fighting over Roxie, sexually? DO IT. Want to write Joanna and Kat and Will getting it on? YES, PLEASE. Any other permutation of two or more characters is also very much welcome. This was my trashy guilty pleasure when it was on TV, and I'm the same way with my fic. If you want to write this, but you'd rather not write porn, that's totes fine. I'd love to read more about Eleanor and Bun, newspaper fic (Will and Penny and Joanna and their awkward workplace funtimes), or the whole thing with Colin and Gene that happened right there at the end. What was with that?

The most important thing? Have fun! ^_^

Pimping for my craft! - Treble Entendre presents Dogboy & Justine

Public Post, because it is VERY IMPORTANT. Spread the word!

Listen up, y'all. There are a lot of theatre folks on this list, and friends and family of theatre folk, and nearly all of you should know how much theatre and music mean to me. I don't hide that particular light under a bushel.

With that in mind, I'm about to lay some real awesome on you, and give you the opportunity to change the face of theatre in New York City. Yeah, I'm serious. You, personally, can make this difference.

rm and mithrigil have started a production company, Treble Entendre. They have just launched a Kickstarter.com campaign to raise funding for a workshop production of their original work Dogboy & Justine, "a new musical about life, love and head injuries."

You're hooked already. I can tell. I probably don't even need to mention the dominatrixes.

So here's where you come in. We (the collective we) need to raise at least $6000 by December 21st to get the Kickstarter funding. That's a little more than three months away. If you donate, you won't be charged until the 21st, and only if the 6k goal is reached.

If D&J gets this funding, Treble Entendre has other projects in the works, one or two of which yours truly might just have a hand in. <strike>And goddamn I hope I get involved in D&J, fuckin' A this thing is gonna be amazing! *fingers crossed*</strike> So you won't just be helping two friends of mine who you may have never met, you will be helping me. And you'll be making musical theatre history in friggin' New York City, people! How cool is that?

*****HERE IS THE LINK TO THE KICKSTARTER PAGE.*****

CLICKING IT WILL MAKE ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

As a bonus, dig the awesome video on that page. You know you want a piece of this.

Seriously, guys, I don't want birthday presents or Christmas presents this year. Put your money here instead. It's such a good cause. The minimum donation is $1, and every little bit helps. Help awesome people make awesome things.

/soapbox

I'm pretty sure that's all impossible.

Fandoms:

Sherlock (BBC)
Supernatural
White Collar
Doctor Who/Torchwood
Tin Man - Zero fics strongly encouraged...
Good Omens
Eastwick
BSG

My Fills:
Distraction, Sherlock (BBC), John/Sherlock, collars PG - for toestastegood
Catalyst, John/Sherlock, kissing, sex with clothes on R - for entangled_now

Dear Yuletide Santa...

First off, I love you, and I think you're amazing. No matter what you write me, I will adore it and fawn over it and make ridiculous squeeing noises all over the place.

You're writing me a story! How awesome is that? I submit that it is very. ^_^

Now let's get down to brass tacks.

In general, I'm a total whore for vivid imagery and character insight, stuff that really gets inside people's heads. Slash is great, het is great, any and all ratings welcome.

1. The Brothers Bloom
You see how I requested any characters and left no further details? That's exactly what I meant. I love this movie, and find every aspect of it, every single character, absolutely compelling. Wanna write about the brothers? Do it. Wanna give me Bang Bang's backstory? I'd love that. Got something else that you passionately want to explore or expand upon? I would adore reading it. Gen, het, slash, all is perfectly welcome. Don't be afraid to get dark. There's a whole lot of twistedness in these people and their motivations, and in the things they do.

2. The Mentalist
The thing about me and this show is... I ship it. All of it. Cho/Jane, Cho/Rigsby, Jane/Lisbon, Jane/Rigsby, Lisbon/Van Pelt, Rigsby/Van Pelt. Hell, you want to write Bosco/Jane, you go for it! I love it. Some combination I haven't considered? Sell it to me, I'll buy it. ^_^

3. The Fall
This film is exactly what I meant when I said I'm a whore for vivid imagery and character insight, and basically everything I said about Brothers Bloom also applies here. I will admit that I have a real soft spot for Darwin, but there's so much to love about this film and these characters that absolutely anything you might write would be wonderful to read.

4. Brimstone
Stone and Lucifer. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying their interactions are what made this show for me, and I want more. If you want to write slash, hot damn, I'd love to read it, but anything with the two of them would be awesome. John Glover... goddamn, how awesome is he?

Literally the only thing I don't like is mpreg. That's it. Seriously, anything else goes as long as it's in character and motivated. Write me something you'd want to read, and something that's fun for you to do. Do that, and I'll love it, no matter what I get. ^_^

You can find my writing at yumemiru_kikai, and the collaborations that cerebel and I have done over at teampornbomb. If you want to get a feel for the kind of stuff I like to read and write.

Thanks again! You're the bestest! *hugs*

~ the spaniel
