And summary:
My younger brother has decided to try to get himself nominated to run for MEP for the East Midlands. He's attempting this through an organisation called the Jury Team, who are basically out to try and shake up party politics a bit by forming a sort of anti-party which provides support to independent candidates while allowing them to keep doing basically whatever the hell they like.

In order to stand any sort of chance once the actual campaigning starts, he needs to be the Jury Team's first-choice candidate for the East Midlands, which is selected through a primary that finishes this Friday. Voting for the primary is by text message.

If you're a UK resident and think any of this sounds remotely interesting, you should have a look at some or all of the links above. If you're still interested, you can vote for him in the primaries by texting JAMLOW01 to 86837 (the number spells out 'voter' on a phone keypad). Texts cost 25p, I believe, but they're a non-profit organisation and any revenue they manage to gather goes towards promoting their objectives "to open up and clean up politics".

This is what we went and did earlier. Because we are so cool. Though all the planning only said they were trying to be the largest gathering of zombies, not that some fucking annoying slag from Heart FM dressed like a dead prostitute was going to spend the afternoon trying to make everyone dance for about an hour. I refused after the first time, but I don't think I got counted properly anyway even after registering because the organisers ran out of wristbands, the retards. But you know. Somewhat pointless yet amusing world record, woo!

Then we went to Jupiter Monkeys' little Halloween gig at their usual pub in town, where Joe was Jack Sparrow and Matt was Sherlock Holmes (hilarious to watch him rocking out during their set, seriouslyyy) and their singer fell out with her boyfriend and didn't actually do any singing. I was dressed as Dr. Horrible, BECAUSE I AM AMAZINGLY COOL, and my brother was an owl, and his girlfriend... prepare yourself, best costume idea ever... was Zombie Princess Diana. Bahaha. When we were standing at the bus stop, we could hear some nearby chavs going "That's fucking SICK, man, fucking sick!" She even added "too soon?" to the forehead of her mask during the course of the evening. I love it.

Also, because I was rereading this story this morning and I love it, and I have just made my brother and featherfinyipp read it, and I feel like a massive English geek again for loving it as much as I do, have a short story link.

I'm running off to London later for the Camden Crawl tomorrow and Saturday. Should be fun! I've been trying to work my way through checking out a chunk of the lineup list on myspace to decide who I want to see this year, but as usual the number of bands is getting the better of me.

So if you want to point out anyone who you think I should bear in mind, go for it. Because I'm sure as hell not going to get through them all, even if I keep at it for the rest of the day as I intend to...

I used to have violin lessons when I was a LOT younger; I haven't played it for years, but I still have a violin that just hangs around in its case. This morning, I brought it home from my mum's so I could mess around with it, seeing as I've been playing with all my instruments a lot lately. And now I've tuned it, stuck gold stars on the neck to indicate fingering positions (I haven't played for a longgg time, okay? :P), and I'm sitting playing the violin bit that repeats in Overture. Too cool. :D

I was pleased with today's episode! I love Ianto. I hope it continues as decently. Though god, WHY are they going to add Martha to the series? She annoys the hell out of me. Hate hate haaate.

Today I saw Lightspeed Champion, which I enjoyed a lot. And had my second piano class, which was boring. The pace is faaaar too slow. Tomorrow should be fun, what with music theory class and guestlist for We Start Fires' gig (freeeeee hurrah).

I am very behind with lj. As usual. Hah. Someday I'll get around to it.

I watched all of Life On Mars over the Christmas-and-New-Year sort of period. I figured it's only 16 episodes total, so even if I didn't think it was amazing, it wouldn't take long to get through even just watching casually. For most of the first series, I enjoyed it but didn't find it at all compelling, so I'd often leave a few days between watching episodes. Then I got really into it and started watching three episodes at a time. I finished it a couple of days ago, and now I wish it was longer! I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet (plus I'm going to make featherfinyipp watch it once I get DVDs, mwahaha), but it is awesome stuff and I recommend it. Even if you don't get into it at first.

Today I signed up for a piano course and got the last place. It starts on Wednesday. I think this has wound up lowey, because he is also taking the course and didn't want to be on the same one as me. But there wasn't another start date for the beginners' course. I am also taking a music theory course, which starts on Thursday. Yay for doing vaguely productive things to start 2008. Also I really need to get a job, because I am very broke.

I also wandered around town quite a bit with Harriett. We discovered that the Oxfam shop in Hockley (indie-ish area of Nottingham) seems to specialise in books. Harriett found this amazing dedication in the front of one:

We also went to a shop called Rob's Records on Hurts Yard, which we'd been meaning to check out for a while. We were a little intimidated when we first found it, because there wasn't really a lot of space to actually get into the shop. There are records piled everywhere, boxes and boxes of 7"s in tattered cases and trays of CDs teetering and LPs stacked up and just... It's a sort of death-trap constructed of music. You had to watch how you carried your bags for fear of knocking things over as you squeezed through the boxes. If you wanted to pass another customer, you had to work out where to do it, because it was only possible at certain points in the shop. We nearly left straight away, thinking "how on earth could you find anything you wanted in there?", but then we had a poke around, and I found the 7" of Life On Mars? for 10p. Awesome. I bought some other Bowie singles and a few other things because all the 7"s I picked up were also 10p, and then we went to more normal music shops so I could buy British Sea Power's new single that came out today. I'm looking forward to their album next week.
