How do people who haven't read the books keep up with the show? How do you keep track of the characters? Also, I can't believe how many fundamental changes they're making. Like I stated earlier, I think of the show and the series as completely different entities so I don't care, but they're painting some characters in completely different lights (Drogo! Not quite so rapey in the books! Cat, not pushing Ned to King's Landing!). I find it hard to deal with reactions from people who haven't read the books because I just want to tell them, noooo, reason A is not why character X did Z, haha. The show leaves out a lot of nuances that are in the books, which I totally get because how else would you condense a thousand-page book in twelve hours, but I see people bashing characters for all the wrong reasons and I'm just like aaargh, BUT YOU ARE WRONG. :P

I can't stress this enough: if you haven't read the books but are watching the show, PICK UP THE DAMN BOOKS. You'll be able to appreciate the show much more! It's SO much fun watching the episode and recognizing all the little details they put in the show, and comparing the two.

Lady :( aw man, made me cry. I hated that particular part in the books;
He had never paid much attention to the names the children had picked, but looking at her now, he knew that Sansa had chosen well. She was the smallest of the litter, the prettiest, the most gentle and trusting. She looked at him with bright golden eyes, and he ruffled her thick grey fur.

DSLKMFLDFS;;SDLF. Funny how little I care about Mycah, just a kid, being brutally murdered, and so much about a freaking wolf. It's just that..the wolves are so important to the Stark children (which is harder to pick up to on the show) and in the context of the story, the death of this particular animal is so much more important than the death of a butcher's boy, heh. I was so sad when Arya had to throw rocks at Nymeria to get her out of there, though that was another thing that deviated from the books - I believe Jory found Arya first and they both decided to chase away Nymeria? Not sure.

JOFFREY. I WILL REPOST A COMMENT I FOUND ON ONTD:
‎"The earth travels around the sun, we're all carbon based lifeforms, pi is an irrational number, Joffrey is a little shit."

Ugh. UGH. I know he's been dealt some pretty shitty cards when it comes to his parents (all three of them) but I just.hate.him.so.much. He's easily my most-hated character in the books, which is saying quite a lot considering there are men out there who have done WAY worse things (looking at you, Bolton and Greyjoy clans).

And Sansa. Oooh, man. I feel so bad for her. She has no idea who deserves her loyalty, even though it's clear-cut for us as viewers (CHOOSE STARK!). queenofthorns talked about how terrible the Stark children are prepared for the real world. I get it, because they are NORTHERNLY NORTHLINGS who have no time for such useless things as politics, but jeez, you'd think they'd at least tell their children (A) not to trust anyone who isn't a Stark and (B) PEOPLE ARE EVIL AND WILL SCREW YOU OVER THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET (at least in their universe). Poor kids. Ned and Cat would be amazing parents in our time (save the beheading of a deserter in front of a child - but you get my point), but in Westeros..eh. Not so much.

AWW YEAH CAT'S GOING SOUTH. This is going to be good.

And holy crap, The Wall. It looks awesome. And who was the short-haired raper Jon and Tyrion 'met' in the woods? I know the long-haired kid was that one singer who turns out to be such a douche in AFFC, but the other one..?

I have to say, I don't really like Tyrion/Peter Dinklage's accent. It seems so over the top! PD is perfectly casted, but eh. And am I the only one who's a little bothered by the acting of the girl who plays Sansa? It's not very convincing..

NOT HATIN THOUGH. Prefering to focus on the FLAWLESSNESS THAT IS ARYA. Did I mention I love her and that she's my favourite character of all time? OF ALL TIME? Because she should be yours too.

Anyway, great episode, I love this show. My only gripe: WHERE THE FRAK WERE BRAN'S GREEN DREAMS? Where's the three-eyed crow? Seeing how she's a huge deal later on, I find it hard to believe they'd cut it out of the story entirely :/

I just watched Outcasts. I quite liked it, BUT THEN THEY HAD TO GO AND KILL OFF THE BAMBER. I had heard some talk about him not being in a lot of episodes or something, but shit, why include him in the promos and let him do interviews if HE IS GOING TO DIE IN THE VERY FIRST EPISODE. SEFLSFLD;';D; RAGE. His character was quite the dickhead, but still...

I didn't like Ominous Eric Mabius at the end (FUG FUG FUG) but I am intrigued.

Loved loved LOVED Hermione Norris as Stella Isen.

I liked the episode, it set up quite some interesting plot lines, but I'm a little bitter about Jamie :| I was really looking forward to seeing him in a new show (idgaf about L&O UK). I'll definitely give the show a chance and watch the next episode if only for Stella, but meh, I'm pretty disappointed already.

In other news, I just found out Jesse McCartney was cast as one of my favorite characters in the tv adaption of my favorite comic ever, brb killing myself.

Television in 2010

Jack stares up through the swaying bamboo and hears something else. Distant. Up in the sky. And then he sees the Ajira plane climb higher and higher. Jack watches as it flies away.

He smiles. The plane is gone, finally free of the island. Jack Shephard has done what he came to this place to do. He has found his purpose. He has found love. And been loved. And he has finally found a way to love himself. The bamboo sways across the blue sky. And Jack Shephard’s eye closes one final time. He is gone.

The end.

2010 WAS SUCH A GOOD YEAR FOR TELEVISION. The most memorable event was obviously the final season of Lost. I watched the first episode live (and stayed up until like, 6am), participating in ack_attack's Ongoing Lost Post for the first (and also last :() time. I'm a little conflicted over how the show ended (WHAT ABOUT WAAAAALT) but the final episode made me bawl like a giant baby and overall speaking, the final season of Lost has been a very positive and I'M ALL FUZZY INSIDE experience. I miss the show insanely much but I don't think I could've handled another season of its insanity. I keep trying to compare BSG and Lost re: their final seasons because how I experienced them is SO wildly different (hated BSG, loved Lost, even though both shows provided little to no answers to ~major questions) and I've come to the conclusion that I had zero to no faith in Darlton's possibility to actually pull all this shit off, and thus could not be disappointed in the finale, no matter how crappy. At some point during my Lost watching experience I guess I made up my mind it's all good, no matter what. Unlike Darlton/Lost, I had pretty much unlimited faith in RDM's abilities as a showrunner to answer all the show's mysteries, hence my major let-down.

Anyway, JACK AND VINCENT ON THE BEACH. All of them coming together in the Church of Many Faiths! DADDY SHEPARD. Juliet in the series' finale! RICHARD GREYING. dfkldfgls'd';gl;s;'df'dsf''skfkhd HEARTS IN MY EYES.

..as soon as Lost wraps up, Fringe instantly becomes the best sci-fi/fantasy show on the air.

Fringe and Sons of Anarchy are the only shows I actively look forward to every week ever since Lost ended. If Fringe gets cancelled, I WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF AND MY TELEVISION WATCHING HABITS. This season has been so good (I haven't talked about the latest episode but I am so glad our Olivia is back!). I.. basically can't talk about Fringe without making incoherent noises and wavy arm motions. The only thing I'd like from the latter half of the season is more Walter, but as long as Fox doesn't pull the plug I'm not complaining. FOX, IF YOU KILL THIS SHOW, I WILL HATE YOU MORE THAN I ALREADY DO NOW. Olivia Dunham (the original!) is hands down my favorite character on tv right now and Anna Torv deserves about a billion Emmy's for being able to portray three wildly different yet somewhat the same characters - I don't know how she's able to switch between the personas so effortlessly but she's brilliant.

Cap by iloveyourglasses as I have no SoA caps on my computer 8|

yes. there will be an entire episode where juice reads a harley wide glide service manual... in yiddish.

I didn't love the third season as much as I loved the first two, mainly because I didn't care much about the Irish and "they took mah BAYBEE" plots (LOL at the idea of these guys pulling off a long con with Stahl like they did when they couldn't even find a goddamn baby) and I was saddened by the lack of Tig, but STILL. BEST SHOW ABOUT OUTLAW BIKERS EVER. I'm crazy excited for the new season because it seems like after some distractions (like having your baby STOLEN) it seems like Jax is back on track wrt taking down the Sons. IS IT SEPTEMBER 2011 YET?

“I think Eric the Viking King would be a brilliant sitcom. Probably set in a high school environment. Kind of like an updated version of Fresh Prince.”
Overall speaking I wasn't too impressed by this season save for some AMAZING moments: <blink>NAZI VAMPIRES, RUSSEL EDGINGTON, THE LORENA/BILL SEX SCENE</blink>. I will not stop watching this show as long as it does stuff like that. Also, ALCIDE'S BODY, JESUS CHRIST.

We are the walking dead.

HAHA THIS IS SHOW SO DUMB, I love it though!! It's fun and gory, and although the whole ~family values~ thing sometimes gets on my nerves (it's supposed to be R-rated, omg) it's a good show to take one's mind of things (also, what's with them not discussing WTF IS HAPPENING and WHY DEAD PEOPLE ARE WALKING THE STREETS ever??). I'm a sad the first season was only six episodes long, hopefully season 2 will be longer (and less ABC Family show, HA).

TL;DR: TV was good this year. No show that's out right now will top Lost for me, BUT all the shows mentioned above are definitely close runner-ups. I can't wait for the remaining Fringe episodes - but 2011 will be all about HBO's Game of Thrones, negl:

UNF.

Check out wolfswood for more GoT screencaps.
I'm sad Caprica was cancelled :( I don't even watch the show, but I had planned on catching up with it (still do, actually). Meh. This comment sums up how I feel quite well:

I'm getting really, really, really tired of "SyFy". They don't deserve the name, even if its spelling is stylized. They're the "paranormal ghost huge monster in the lake reality slop jizz channel".

Seriously, buy a show, run a pilot, wait an entire year, then cut the show in half only to resume it early, change the night, and then complain that it's not doing well and cancel it, only to buy up another show from the same franchise, so that they can cancel it, too, this time two years from now?

Fuck SyFy. You guys, I haven't been on Tumblr since September 10th. Do I miss it? FUCK NO. I'm not going to deny Tumblr isn't an inspiring place with all the beautiful photos and picspams that are posted, but I SO agree with what the above posters are saying: Tumblr is like crystal meth shared with a bunch of people you know vaguely from somewhere but have no idea who they actually are, while LJ is a glass of great wine and a chunk of AWESOME cheese shared together with a group of people whose names you actually know.

So this might be a little redundant seeing as I haven't actually looked at Tumblr for over a month but plus I haven't actually made icons or picspams in forever, but I won't be posting there anymore. I swear this is not a lol flounce or anything, I DO appreciate Tumblr for what it is, which is a fun website where pretty stuff is posted, but FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS LIVEJOURNAL, post your pretty stuff HERE. And not there. Because I'd much rather talk about things than click some 'like' button.

Martin that you have no reason for not reading.

"But Brannock," you may ask, "I don't like fantasy novels. Elves are gay! Gay, gay, GAY!"

Well, I have good news for you, my homophobic friend. There are zero faggy elves in these books, none, nada, zilch. The same goes for neckbeard wish-fulfillment dwarves, offensive racial analog orcs, obnoxious gnomes, and furry beast races.

These books are about a world where summers can last for years and winters decades. This, along with a small amount of undead, dragons, and believable occult magic that may or may not come from what may or may not be Gods, are the only fantasy elements of this series. This series is rock hard fantasy in a nearly pure form. It pulls no punches and there is absolutely no fluff!

The focus of these books are the Seven Kingdoms, united under the Iron Throne in the continent of Westeros, and the political machinations, backstabbing, and double-crossing that goes on between them... otherwise known as the Game of Thrones. To play the Game one must be ruthless, merciless, pragmatic, and use every single tool and advantage available to him. For in the Game, to lose is to die.

The story starts with King Robert Baratheon traveling to the North to seek out his old friend Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, and ask of him a great favor: to be the Hand of the King. Starting with that one request, the story unfolds from focusing on a small, northern noble family into an epic saga - spanning multitudes of characters, hundreds of names, and countless legends made and in the making - of the land of Westeros and beyond as it leaves the Long Summer.

The poster forgot to mention there's an HBO show coming up, starring HBIC Lena Headey, Sean Bean, and Aiden Gillen, who played Tommy Carcetti on The Wire, making this cast pretty much the pinnacle of awesome. MY FRIENDS, GO FORTH TO YOUR LOCAL BOOKSTORE/LIBRARY AND PICK UP THESE BOOKS. You won't regret it!

(* I'm serious, and it sucks. Nothing that is on television right now appeals to me, with the sole exception being True Blood's Alcide. BRING BACK LOST/BSG/FIREFLY)
