As you may or may have not noticed, I haven't been around LJ a lot. Life has been incredibly busy, and I keep thinking it's going to get better, but it doesn't. As Erin gets older, I find there's more things taking up our time, and I'm trying to balance that while also carving out time for myself.

It used to be that LJ was part of that "me" time. I used to like to come here and read everyone's adventures, disappointments, and frustrations, and commiserate and/or share mine. Like so many, though, I'm just not getting what I want or need out of LJ anymore. It's changed, and I've changed, and it just doesn't hold the same place in my heart. People I've connected with have come and gone; some I see other places, some I never hear from anymore. LJ has become lonely for me. I've taken a break from it, and found out, overall, that I didn't really miss it much.

So, reluctantly but with lots of thought, I've done a fairly substantial friends cut. I always hate to do them, because I know a lot of people take them personally or just don't agree with the idea, but it feels necessary to me for a few reasons. I find myself skimming my f-list and not commenting when I do, which isn't fair to you. I know this seems like a stupid break-up line, but it really, truly, isn't you. I think every single one of you are great people. It's just that I need to start reclaiming some of the time I've spent online, and this seems one of the best ways to do it.

Take a look at the consumer complaints about Purina cat and dog food. This exact same problem has been an issue with Purina pet foods since 2007, but since this summer, the rate of complaints has picked up drastically. People who previously had to problems with Purina are reporting issues. Comment after comment sounds the same:

I've been feeding my three cats Fancy Feast canned food Chopped Grill Feast for many years. They have always devoured their meal and licked the plates clean. Last week, I noticed they did not want to eat much and went from plate to plate, ate a little. Next day, none of them would eat it. I kept trying new cans. What they did eat made them vomit and one cat was lethargic for days. I refuse to buy any more of this food. It's very scary. I don't know what is wrong with the food, but I fear it has toxins in it. I switched to another brand and the cats are fine now. Did anyone else experience this?

My dogs have been eating Purina Dog Chow (green bag) for about four years. They used to eat only Iams, but due to financial issues, we had to go with a cheaper brand. The last bag I purchased was about a week and a half ago. My 14 years old Labrador has vomited about 5-6 times and my German Shepherd has vomited about 4 times. Something is wrong with this food! The food has a kind of metallic smell to it. It just does not smell right. I'm taking it back to the pet store. I am changing my dogs' food, it's just not worth taking the chance to save a few dollars.

We purchased a large bag of Purina One Salmon dry cat food to give to a needy pet owner. She emailed us a couple of days later ,to say that there were maggots, lots of them with what looked to be like strands or webs with more dead gnats or flies, pieces of web in the food and "shells" of gnats or flies in the bag. Cats would not eat much of the food and, fortunately, they did not get sick. The store had noticed this problem in other bags and was willing to swap out.

I purchased a 34 lb bag of Purina One Smartblend dog food every three to four weeks for my two Labradors. The last bag I purchased seemed fine until I noticed a new infestation of little black bugs. Upon further inspection through the contents of the bag, I noticed clusters of white "eggs" adhered to quite a bit of the food. Some of these clusters contained larvae in the process of hatching. I immediately threw out the remaining contents of the bag but did save samples for my vet.
We went out of town last weekend and had friends dog sit for us. We originally attributed their lethargy and random vomiting to separation anxiety. Although they are doing better, I am still concerned and will be watching them closely. As stated, I saved samples of the infested dog food for our vet in the event that anything results from this issue.

I recently switched to the Friskies Poultry Variety pack (32 cans) that says it must be used by August 2013 (12281789 09:31 lo61237) sku (050000454242). I have 5 cats and feeding them this food, I noticed some of them throwing up. There's nothing in it but liquids, no hair ball, no food, nothing. My cats range from 8 weeks to 13 years old.

I switched my own cats to Purina a couple of months ago, and their coats look so much better than they did on the old brand of cat food... but Buffy has started vomiting stomach liquids. Purina and Fancy Feast are off the menu. Permanently.

I have no idea why this isn't news. But if you're feeding your pets any Purina brand, please don't wait for media confirmation that something is going on. Stop feeding your pets Purina immediately.

SWAPPING: at this point in time, I am primarily looking to swap for things on my wishlist. However, If I have something that you want but you have nothing on my wishlist, you can try me with your swap list and maybe we can work something out. :)

SHIPPING: due to USPS increased postal costs, if buying, shipping is $3.50 within the U.S. for imps and up to 2 bottles, which includes delivery confirmation. Additional bottles will be $0.50 for every two after that, up to $6.00, which will then be shipped in a small flat rate priority box. Insurance is extra. I ship in bubble wrap and recycled but heavily reinforced bubble mailers, with Teflon/plumbers tape on caps. I usually ship the next mail day after payment. If I can't get them out that quickly, I will let you know.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: my local post office has cracked down on sending any perfume (even alcohol-free) overseas. Since it is really inconvenient for me to go to another post office (and I cannot guarantee they would accept it even if I did), I am unfortunately unable to mail overseas at the first class rate at this time. NEW COST, as USPS raised their rates AGAIN :(: I am able to ship priority mail international, in a small flat rate box, from home, but postage would cost $23.95. If you're interested and willing to pay that price, contact me. I do ask that you purchase a minimum of $20, however. As an alternative, if you have a friend in the U.S. who can forward a package to you without hassles from their local post office, I am happy to send to him or her for regular first class shipping. Thanks for understanding!

PAYMENTS: $10.00 minimum preferred. I take all kinds of Paypal. Payment is due within 24 hours, unless we make other arrangements. I'm happy to hold things that you are certain you really want, however, so please let me know. If you'd like to chip in for fees, it would be appreciated, but not required. You can calculate fees here.

BOTTLE/SAMPLE CONDITIONS: I test everything cleanly, with a toothpick or reducer cap. However, I cannot guarantee what happened with bottles and/or imps/samples/decants I bought secondhand. If it matters to you, please contact me and I'll try to let you know whether I was the first owner or not. Most bottles have circular, usually colored labels, on top with the name of the blend and (if known) the year made.

EXTRAS: I send goodies, usually tea, candy, samples and/or frimps, so if you're allergic or against anything, please let me know. My household is non-smoking, but we do have cats.

PROBLEMS: If there's a problem once you receive your package, please let me know. I try my best to check fill levels, label condition (if asked), and estimate percentages on partial bottles, but there's always a margin of error. I'm human. If I made a mistake, please let me know and I'll try to fix it. While I can't be responsible for lost or broken items in transit from me to you if you didn't buy insurance, if it happens, please let me know. I will try my best to work something out with you!
