Danica was an active teen involved in three different sports when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It took Danica years to accept her diagnosis and face it head-on. Sandra learned through some bloodwork that she had type 2 diabetes. When JJ was 9 years old, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. As a youngster, he was tired of managing his blood sugars and would lie to his mom about his levels.
