On March 21, 2011, Afghanistan implemented a four-digit postal code system, where the first two digits (ranging from 10–43) represented the province, while the last two digits correspond either to the city/delivery zone (range 01–50) or to the district/delivery zone (range 51–99).
In October 2024, to accommodate the growing demand for mail delivery and enhance efficiency, Afghanistan expanded its postal codes to six digits. In this updated system, the first two digits continue to denote the province, the third and fourth digits specify the district or locality, and the final two digits represent the postal delivery zone. During the transition period, both the old and new postal codes may be in use. Therefore, when sending mail or packages, it is advisable to confirm the correct postal code with the carrier to prevent delivery delays.
As Afghanistan's postal code system is still evolving, we will periodically update relevant information. For the most accurate and official details, please refer to announcements from Afghanistan Post.
