Time to jump on the bandwagon for a 2011 post and a bit of a 2010 recap whilst I sit here at work munching on my fruit based lunch since I was too lazy to make anything proper this morning...

Uh anyway.
So. Christmas was same as always, family affair, my uncles family came down from Marlow and we all hung out on boxing day as is customary. Nothing too interesting this year since i was terribly lack luster in coming up with ideas for christmas presents. But I did get a sweet 22" TV/moniter from my parents for my soon-to-be-PC (if the case ever materialises in the post....).

Spent new years and pretty much half a week either side down in London where much spackery commenced.

And now, back to work like per normal. Where I am the most multipurpose administrator ever, having already fixed a door this week >:O! (I swear this stuff wasn't in my job description).

SO ANYWAY. A BIT OF A RECAP.

~ Pretty much all of the first half of 2010 was taken up with my final two terms of university and finishing off my degree.

~ Handing in my dissertation in March was probably one of the most satisfying feelings ever.

~ I worked for three weeks in a secondary school which was interesting.

~ I consequently skived off early one day from school to go with my housemates and get our results, which is probably the best feeling of relief this year!

~ I had my left bottom wisdom tooth extracted, and so had my first general anaestetic which was... weird.

~ I applied for NATS, which is the National Air Traffic Services, didn't get through the second round of testing. Depending on how it all goes I can reapply next year in summer.

~ I got a job! After spending two months looking for one, I got my first invite for an interview, and got the job, awww yeah. And it's turned out to be enjoyable, and probably given me an extremely unrealistic view of office work since this is far far from your average work environment. I get on well with everyone and it's been pretty fun so far! No signs of getting the sack for the time being, this job with Rocktime will last until september, so a year to save some money, get a reference and hopefully go into something not office-related.

~ Best bit of luck for 2010: someone was handing around an avaiation magazine at my dads work and he noticed an advert for a sponsorship pilot training with Flybe, photocopied it and bought it back home. Sent off an application for it the day after, made it into the next interview stage, and made it through that one too, so from 200+ applicants I am down to the last 16. My next interview is on the 11th of January, then it will go down to 10, then after that there will be a final interview to get it down to the last 6. I've spent the past week revising the company, the planes etc etc. Wish me luck!

Hopes for 2011:

Get fitter - I wasn't bad at the tail end of university and even did some running over summer, but all this sitting around in an office and not getting back home until after dark is making me feel lethargic. Already changed my diet and cut out snacking, going to aim starting running again once or twice a week over the weekend until the weather improves, then if I'm still at Rocktime I'll start cycling to and from work. Saves money and gets me healthier. YEAH!

Get back into a sport of some kind - Biking/airsofting or badminton again, not sure. I used to do rock climbing indoor & out and would love to do that again but sadly there's nobody around here who I could ask to come with me and it really is a two person hobby. Am hoping to go airsofting next weekend, can't wait!

If I don't get the flybe sponsorship I would like to save up some money this year for potential relocation for a job slightly more intune with my interests, but I've got my fingers crossed over the First Officer training position!

In other news I have my Class 1 JAR Aviation medical tomorow. Here's hoping I dont have some kind of horrific underlying heart condition, and if I do I'm gonna be super sad I paid £330 to find it!

Story time -

I am a creature of habit. I leave work at 5:30pm, get to the bus station by 5:40pm and get the 5:45pm bus home. Today there was DEVIATION FROM THE NORM and the 5:30pm bus was delayed, it turned up at the bus station as I got there, so what the heck I think, I'll get that. Maybe I'll get home earlier (it goes a slightly different route) and even if not, sitting on a warm bus is preferable to standing in the cold waiting.

So I get on, I flash my bus pass for the week and stare in slight dismay to notice there aren't any free seats, being one of the last people to get on. I resign myself to sit in one of the fold down chairs that faces sideways rather then forwards, where the wheelchair would go were there one on the bus.

But there isn't so I take the second side-ways foldy down seat, next to an older gentleman. Little do I know this proves to be a TERRIBLE DECISION.

None the less! Off we go! Back to Wimborne! Hurrah! We pull out of Poole bus station and there I am listening to my iPod (Calvin Harris, fyi, don't judge me on my music tastes ok). A few minutes later, I notice my good gentleman neighbour on the "worst seats in the bus" is animatedly talking and motioning. At me. So out of politeness (mistake) I take out my earphones thinking he is trying to tell me something important.

"I 'ate sittin' facin' sideways"

I can sympathise, when one has the option of facing forward on their mode of transport, I find that by far the more preferable orientation. I agree with him.

"Yeah, I can't say I go a bundle on it too, sitting facing forwards is the best."

"Yeah! Think about it this way, we're never gonna see what comes towards us,"

"I think I'd prefer not being able to see that..." I mumble quietly, he overrules my opinion, raving more about how he has to crane his neck to see forwards.

"Uhhh..." I trail off slightly. Not sure what to make of this. "At least we're not facing backwards!" I say enthusiastically, "that's the worst!"

"Yeah! That way you're definitely not going to see what kills us!"

"Well... I was just going to say that actually I feel motion sickness when I travel backwar..." I say meekly, before being cut off with another exuberant hand motion.

"All I'm going to see before we die is some green," he waves manicly out of the window oposite us, there are trees, "And some old biddies!" He motions generally in the area of a pair of old ladies, they don't seem to have heard him and continue discussing whatever it is that old ladies discuss after an exciting day in Poole.

At a small lull in the topic of conversation, I attempt in vain to put my earphones back in, the universal sign of 'I don't want to talk to you any more'

He doesn't seem to have heard of that one though.

"I want to be a bus driver really."

I decide to avoid making a comment on this.

"So are you a student?"

"Uh, a post grad, I work in Poole."

"Oh? Where do you live?

"Oh, um, Wimborne."

"Oh really?
Oh my, for once I posted something to my dA account and didn't first upload it onto LJ, the world is coming to an end. To rectify that, here is my new deviant art ID image ;o but I noticed there's some messy colouring when I look at it on my ipod (cause for some reason it puts a darker background behind the image, and I can see where I failed and cleaning up edges >: ) BUT OH WELL.

In other news, I am now over halfway through my first week at work - getting the buses into work kinda sucks because depending on what bus I get I either turn up a bit late or way too early. I still don't have a key to let myself in so I end up chilling out in the shopping centre for 20 min playing on my DS before I go buzz myself up into work. Getting the bus is nice in a way I guess cause I can be mindless and take a nap, but urgh if I could drive in I could leave 30 minutes later and still get to work in time hurr.

Oh, and one of the directors at work brings his dog, Kobi, to work. And Kobi has learnt that I am the giver of scratches behind ears and tummy rubbings. So if I ever start gushing about a Kobi and work, it's not a workmate, it's a lovely cute little springer spaniel :3 Who trots around the offices on the hunt for dropped food :33

Also it's raining and I dun wanna have to walk in the rain D;

So I haven't done an LJ update in a while but not a lot of terribly exciting things have happened;

- Still living with parents
- Half cooked my hand with steam burns about two and a half weeks ago, it still looks nasty.
- Went to London for a weekend and played horrific xbox games with kahochan
- Spend too much time watching awful daytime TV with the dog.
- Hang out with the horses and repainted the shelter. Repainted myself also ; ;
- GOT A JOB!? Seriously. The first interview someone invites me along too I get the job, I wish more people would've given me a chance to actually GET to the interview stage of job applications, cause you know... obviously I'm not that horrific.

As far as the job goes it's nothing fantastic and nothing I see myself doing in the long run. I'm working as an admin/receptionist for a teeny tiny web design company over in Poole (I'd never even heard of them or seen their offices before... despite the fact that they really are on the Poole Highstreet). Went over two weeks ago or so for a job interview, was really informal, the company is tiny, there's only 17 people there and the atmosphere is lovely and friendly. Anyway they emailed me 4 days later or so to offer me the job which was pretty exciting! I start on the 20th of semptember, it's just a years contract for some maternity cover but that works perfectly for me. Since I still live with my parents I'll be saving up money with minimal rent, and hopefully have some savings to widen my search for more appropriate work next year.

- Took the dog to the vet and got bitten for it. SUCH BETRAYAL >:(
- Getting back into running and cycling /flex. Still rocking the farmers tan despite it now being september.
- Downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CS5 a few nights back, can't decide if I like it more or less then CS3 :X Started doodling again some more, see under cut for work in progress. Don't have a proper desk atm and drawing on the sofa with laptop and tablet doesn't make for the best conditions :D

Oh god I am so unfit D8

Last week I went down to the forces recruitment centre (to quiz them on Air controlling in the military) blah blah blah, got lots of paperwork from them to read over and since i mentioned my fitness levels were le suck they gave me a lil leaflet on getting fit for the forces too.

In there is a little 6 week day by day break down of activities and rest days to get you into form, and I decided to start today.

1.5 mile - 23 minutes. (I think I ran about 1.5miles, probably slightly more because the paths I use arent on googlemaps for me to work out the total distance 8D) Also I made the error of taking the dog with me who had to stop for a poop break midway through. My stamina sucks so bad I can't run the whole 1.5 miles so I had to put some walking breaks in there D;

How many situps can you do in 1 minute - 21. The dog was wodnering wtf I was doing and kept going behind me so she got smacked by the back of my head a few times.

How many pressups can you do in 1 minute - 10. 10 REALLY BAD. BAD. AWFUL FORM PRESSUPS. OH GOD I HAVE NO UPPER BODY STRENGTH WHAT SO EVER D8

Anyway I dutifully filled in my little booklet with my progress for today. Tomorow is a 20 minute easy cardio activity so I'll go cycling.

So lets have some recap;

I'm almost done with my placement, just 4 more days to go and I'm sorted pretty much. It's been... interesting. The schools I went too/worked with (younger children to start with) are so much tamer then this one. I've heard some pretty impressive things from the kids and thats just the younger years, it's kinda horrifying at times!

But still, some of it's pretty fun, for the most part I get on quite well with a lot of the kids (depends on the activity we're doing mostly though) and they at least listen/respect me enough to do what I tell them for the most part anyway. I don't really teach though, it's mostly observation/classroom assistant style thing, I'll be actually teaching this coming week which is somewhat worrying! Ha... ha... haha oh god I'm going to die.
This week was kinda weird though; there's a load of school trips going out and the year 10's and 11's are still out of school because of exams and work experience, so there's no real scheduled lessons, it's mostly activities and games. On Tuesday I spent 5 hours solid in Food Tech cooking muffins with about 50 year 8's. URGH. I CAN MAKE MUFFINS NOW IN MY SLEEP. They were pretty good looking muffins until the kids started decorating them. I don't think 13 year olds understand that sometimes, less is more. Wednesday was business and industries day and I got to play with the year 9's a la Dragon's Den style thing. Was pretty funs.

Monday is an inset day so I can finally turn up to work in jeans and a t-shirt yessss none of this looking like a teacher bs. Ultimately I'm not sure I want to teach after this, it's demanding and I've seen some pretty difficult kids that I just wanna grab by the collar and smack around.

So anyway in other slightly less work related news. On tuesday night whilst we were watching the football one of the alarms in our house started going crazy, after a moment of figuring out where the noise was coming from, turned out to be our Carbon Monoxide alarm. Ohdear D: Our old boiler finally packed in so a mere 10 days or so before we're due to move out we've had to have a new boiler fitted >.> Each day for the past half a week I've come home from work to find toolboxes, pipes and everthing littered around the house and everything messed up and moved so they can access the boiler/heating system. We had a whole new heater put in too which SUCKS WHY DIDN'T THIS HAPPEN OVER CHRISTMAS OMG FFFFFF. Gawdamnit. They finished today though and Dom and I had a small HOUSEMATE!BONDING moment over trying to fucking get the godamn fridge back into it's original spot so we could watch TV (they moved it to access the boiler and... left it in the middle of our lounge, THANKS BOILERGUYS!)

Also in the exciting life of me, I got bitten by a dog last week all down my forearm (didn't break the skin, np, I am not going to go crazy from rabies yet) but that's started to bruise up and given how AMAZINGLY LONG AND WELL I bruise my whole forearm is gonna look pretty impressive. Totally awesome for wearing short sleeved shirts yeaaaah.

Last saturday I also had a bitching airsoft session down at Portsmouth UCAP, the old converted nuclear bunker I suspect I've mentioned before. I was a total badass sneaky ho and was having rediculous amounts of fun hiding in the darkest cubby holes I could find waiting for poor members of the other team to pass me by so I could shoot them in the asses. And I did so several times. Much to the amusement of the marshalls which is always a bonus.
Need to sort out some proper trousers/boots for airsofting though, I forgot to bring my walking boots with me back from home so I had to make do with trainers which kinda sucked, and I lack a pair of black trousers suitable for airsofting so my black camo setup is somewhat flawed and I had to wait some of my khaki cargo pants instead. Need to do something with my airsoft mask though, maybe find someway to convert it into goggles + some kind of headwrap style get up though, mask looks rediculous and I got shot in the ear and it smarts pretty bad >:

Aside from that all is well. I am moving in 11 days. If anyone wants to come and clean my house for me I will ply you with muffins (homemade) since I can now make them whilst comatose I suspect. ALSO WALL O' TEXT. >: Don't have any photos from airsofting sry!

Mostly in a good way but sometimes not so great hah. 7 out of 14 days into my placement already though, worst part is the having to get up at 6:30am to get my train to school, shit most certainly sucks.

Ahaha

A piece I wrote up for my Animal Diversity course this year got published online on the Arkive database, got an email about it today.
In other news, I'm now 4/7 on my exams done, just 3 more in the next two weeks to go. Hard one on monday, doss on tuesday, then a meh one on wednesday the next week I think. Considering just how BAD my revision technique has been for all of these exams, I have gotten gods gift of questions, I hope it continues.

This morning for example, I knew my animal welfare exam was gonna be a total doss, the whole subject is, but it was great, I turned over the question paper to see a question discussing how practice in the keeping of captive animals has changed over the past few decades (i.e. omg animals have sentience!) and another one on the 2005 hunting ban, which meant I could waffle on about how retarded the whole deal was for three sides of my tiny lil' hand writing.

Then I came home and went off to exersize my right to vote and buy donuts. And delicious donuts they were too.

I fell asleep a little whilst ago listening to the FFX OST and it makes me wanna play FFX again!
