As of Monday, May 24, 2010, we will no longer accept linked applications. This means no gdocs, webpages, LJ entries or profiles, or external comment threads will be accepted. All apps must be submitted in some form that provides timestamps and an email record of the submission/changes to our mod email (see above for acceptable methods). (added June 22, 2010) Rewrites, as they are part of the application, also may not be linked from outside journals/gdocs/webpages/etc.

A mod will get back to you as soon as possible. Applications are normally gone through once a week (usually over the weekends), but when mod schedules are hectic it might take a few extra days. A GUIDE TO APPLICATIONS
BASICS
PROOFREAD before submitting your application *PLEASE.* That includes spellcheck, grammar check, and overall formatting check. Applications that cannot show a basic understanding of spelling, English grammar and punctuation rules, and/or which show no regard for formatting paragraphs may be subject to rejection on those grounds alone if they are not improved upon a mod-requested rewrite. The game is conducted in English, and the format of our posts is written, so for the ease of all players and ingame communication, an applicant must be able to communicate effectively in text-based English language. This does not mean chat-speak.
OVERVIEW OF THE FORM
CONTACT INFORMATION
Name - Simply, this is the name you want to go by in the game. It can be your own name or your screen-name/aim handle, and it is generally the name you are most known by on the internet. It cannot be vulgar. This section is not optional. Livejournal - This is your personal livejournal. It is helpful for us as mods to have a place to locate you, and a handle to associate you with so your identity is not just a name on a page. Contact - We ask that you provide some kind of way we can contact you (AIM, E-mail, etc.) if we need to discuss something privately. If you do not want to give out any private information, we will contact you through Livejournal's private messaging system. Simply make sure you have the PM system enabled for the journal you wish for us to contact you through, and that you provide the name of the contactable journal in this application. This section is not optional. Some form of contact must be enabled. Other Characters Played - (Canon Character Application Only) - If you are a current player in Adstringendum, please list all the currently ingame characters you have. It makes it easy for us to identify who you are if we don't have your personal journal on record. If you are a new player, one not currently in the game, please put "N/A" for non-applicable. This section is not optional. First Canon Character - (Original Character Application Only) - You must have held a canon character in Adstringendum for two weeks before you can app an Original Character. This section is not optional. Total Characters Played - (Original Character Application Only) - A basic list of the characters you currently play, and previously played, in Adstringendum. This section is not optional. Are you 18 or over - A simple yes/no will suffice. This is for legal purposes, as no one wants to get in trouble for writing inappropriate sexual material with a minor. You do not have to provide your date of birth. This section is not optional.
CHARACTER INFORMATION
Canon - From what canon is the character you are applying for? This would be the name of the book, television show, film, or play that the character is originally from. This section is not optional. Character - The full name of the character you're applying for. In the case of a non-English origin character, the name should be Romanized (English letters, not Japanese/Chinese/Arabic/etc characters. example: use "Son Goku" and not "孫悟空") This section is not optional. Timeline - (Canon Character Application Only) - From when in their canon are you taking the character you are applying for? This could be an exact moment, a specific chapter or episode, or in relation to a significant arc/development for the character. (example: Luke Skywalker, pulled from right before he finds out Darth Vader is his father). In the case of episodes or chapters, it is helpful if you list not just the number, but the situation as well (example: Star Trek: TOS, episode #44. Right before Scotty beams the tribbles to the Klingon Ship). This section is not optional. Description of World - (Original Character Application Only) - Since you are making up the world your character is from, and therefore we likely have no familiarity with this world (and no way to research it), give us a good understanding of what it is like there. It doesn't have to be a novel, but it should provide a good idea of biological, societal, historical, and other cultural influences that might affect your character's perception of the world. Please fill this out even if you are applying for an original character from an already established world. This section is not optional. Personality - A description of what the character you are applying for behaves like, thinks like, and how they interact with and understand the world around them. Between this section and the sample role-play you should develop for us what your take on the character is so that we have a good understanding of your characterization of them: both how they present themselves on the outside (interact/react) and how they think/understand/feel. Most of what makes characterization is the interior aspects of the character. If you cannot provide insight into the thoughts of the character, then you are not providing the whole scope of their personality. This section is not optional. Background - While it doesn't need to be a novel, this section should be far more than a paragraph, and it should cover the entirety of the relevant time-line up to and including the point you pull the character you are applying for from. Please present it in paragraph format, not as bullets or notes, as this will (among other things) show off your ability to write. Do not copy wikipedia or source-books. This must be in your own words. Take this opportunity to provide further understanding for how the situations the character you are applying for has gone through has affected them. In the case of Original Characters, here is also where you would provide an indicator of the time-line, or pull-point, of your character coming to Adstringendum. This section is not optional. Abilities/Additional Notes - List and describe all major or notable abilities the character you are applying for may have. This is also a good place to include anything else you feel it is important and relevant for us to know about the character. This section is not optional.
SAMPLES
Sample Journal Post - A sample of a journal entry by the character you are applying for in first person point of view and of decent length to get a feel for the voice of the character. The journal sample should follow the format of the ingame "journals": they should be arranged as a PCD ENTRY (set as either voice, video, or text) broadcast over the "network." The PCD post can be accidental or intentional. For more information on the PCDs, see the in-depth FAQ. You may also look at existing PCD entries posted in character journals for the comm. This section is not optional. Sample RP - A third-person RP sample. Mostly a combination of narrative and action, this is where you can show off the thoughts and behaviors of the character you are applying for as described in the Personalities section. Be sure to show your characterization of the character so that we understand how you will be playing them. This section is not optional.
A Special Note On Original Character Applications
With any aspect of an Original Character, the burden of information falls to you, the writer. We cannot find information on this character, so you will have to tell us everything you can about them. If there is not enough information, or if the information conflicts, we will ask questions/ask you to repair that, but with Original Characters even more than canon ones, we need to see a definite understanding of characterization and background. Show that you can play your own character in a consistent manner, and show that you can make them a believable personality. Mary Sues/Gary Stus will be rejected.

HIATUS POST
Leave a message after the beep...BEEP!

In order to alleviate the pain of so many hiatus posts crowding the OOC comm and your friends list, it was suggested that we create a "Hiatus Post," that is, a post where people comment to list current hiatuses. This is that post, and as of September 1, 2009, it is in effect.

As this is an official hiatus post, this means if the hiatus is meant to be taken by the mods to be part of your Activity, a comment needs to be made here. Anything posted to the comm without a notice here will not be considered official and not be factored into the Activity Check at the end of the month.

This means players should no longer post their hiatus notices in the OOC comm or wehavecoconuts (the crack comm).

If you feel the need to post your own explanatory notice about your hiatus, please do so in your character's journal, ~~probably~~ ~~preferably~~ as a "Date Out of Order" post so that it doesn't flood the community's friend lists (thus defeating much of the point of a hiatus page). Then when people note that you are missing, if they don't check this page right away, they can easily find it at the top of your character's journal. Or, you can contact them by livejournal PM, an out-of-character comment in their character's journal, or by IM or email if it is listed.

There are many critters that run around Adstring, and they should be noted! If you would like to add something to the bestiary, please reply to this entry in a comment with the same information used in the animals listed below. If there is something you'd like to keep "unknown" for now, simply put that in the section. If you would like to list a picture, please make a 100x100 icon for it with no border.

Name: Blue Dragon
Classification: Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Large, winged reptilian beast. It is easily distinguishable by the large horn protruding from the center of its forehead, and its large, frilled ears. It's scaly hide also turns into larger plates when it reaches the tail, making it a fearsome weapon.
Diet: ???
Habitat: Deserts, and large desert caverns.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Blue Dragons are known for their abilities to cause hallucinations, tricking travelers and such. They are said to be highly intelligent, and are the second most powerful of the chromatic dragons. It can breathe electricity, effectively frying anything in its line of fire. They tend to burrow themselves in the sand if not in a cavern, and prefer to hoard sapphires.

Name: Coconut Crab
Classification: Crustaceans
Physical Characteristics: The average body length is 16 inches (40 cm) and a leg span of more than 3 feet (.91 m) and a weight of 9 pounds (4.1 kg). May grow larger due to the environment. It can be divided into a front section, with ten legs, and an abdomen. The front-most pair of legs have large claws strong enough to open a coconut.
Diet: Mostly coconuts or other fruit, but it will also eat laves, rotten fruit, eggs, and dead animals.
Habitat: Underground burrows and rock crevices
Lifespan: More than 30 years.
Additional Information: While the coconut crab will stay away from humans, if threatened, they will not hesistate to pinch a person with their claws. Coconut crabs are edible and go well with butter.

Name: Creeper
Classification: Plant
Physical Characteristics: Vines similar to ivy or grape, that thicken with age and develop bark. Younger, green vines are the only ones that can move. The leaves are broad, with five points, and very dark. They grow berries in bunches, like grapes, but these berries remain very small and are hard and white. They are edible, with a taste between grape, blueberry, and apple. The only real weakness is fire...it will retreat from high heat sources.
Diet: Photosynthesis
Habitat: Prefer somewhere that allows the vines to climb, offering better access to the sun and better protection to the berries.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: The vine does not seem predatory, but it will grab at people. The thin, younger vines may be easily broken if you catch them quickly, but the stronger, thicker green vines are very hard to break. There are no thorns or the like, but they quickly grow shoots to help hold things in place. The closer to berries you are, the faster it reacts to movement to grab and hold it. Struggling makes it tighten faster, but once it has a hold, it doesn't like to let go.

Name: Flying Monkey
Classification: Winged primate
Physical Characteristics: Resembles a common money from Earth, but with wings.
Diet: Omnivore
Habitat: Any areas with trees or tall and abandoned buildings.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information:Flying monkeys can be found in groups, while normally harmless to humans, they will attack if they are provoked.

Name: Fruit Cows--Strawberry, Blueberry, and Peach
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: In shape, they appear to be normal cows, but their bodies are leaner than normal cows and their necks are somewhat longer than normal. They are pastel colored--blue for blueberry, pink for strawberry, pale orange for peach. They are surprisingly fast creatures, particularly compared to normal cows, as they need to be able to outrun the killer rabbits and yodare cats to survive. They give both meat and milk just like regular cows, but the milk has a slightly fruitier taste to it in association with the type of cow.
Diet: Mainly leaves and fruit, though grass will suffice
Habitat: Near fruit groves, generally near the edges of the safezone away from human living spaces
Lifespan: up to 20 years
Additional Information: Fruit cows are gentle creatures by nature, herbivores not prone to attacking other living things. The bulls do lock horns during mating season, however. It would be possible to domesticate them, but in the wild, they would flee from humans.

Name: Giant Moth
Classification: Lepidoptera
Physical Characteristics: A giant version of the average moth, its wingspan can reach up to 2 or 3 feet. It can come in a variety of colors and patterns, but is usually brown or grey in color.
Diet: Clothing. Sometimes directly off the wearer's back.
Habitat: Adaptable, but prefers the Wastelands.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: A giant moth releases dust from its wings while it flies around. While relatively harmless to the average adult human, one common side-effect of inhaling this dust is drowsiness. The moth as a whole is harmless, but it has been known to eat clothing off people.

Name: Gyaos
Classification: Reptile, Vampiric
Physical Characteristics: An airborne reptilian creature. It has large bat-like wings that allow it to fly swiftly, but prefers to glide over long distances. Over Gyaos' eyes are large shield plates that protect them from sunlight. Gyaos are mainly nocturnal, normally only hunting at night, unless there is a lack of prey.
Diet: Carnivorous. Will eat any kind of meat, provided there is blood.
Habitat: Highly adaptable, but prefers warmer climates.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Gyaos reproduce asexually, allowing them to breed more of their own kind rapidly. They are also extremely aggressive, and seem to show quite a bit of intelligence, finding ways to outmaneuver their opponents. Gyaos also grow larger as they feed, allowing them to reach extreme sizes at an older age. As a natural ability, Gyaos are able to generate a supersonic shriek which is able to stun prey, and has been known to shatter glass, and severely cripple equipment such as watches. Also, what makes them extremely dangerous, is their beam which is generated by high concentration of particles. This beam can cut through almost any solid material.

Name: Horned worm
Classification: Annelida
Physical Characteristics: A giant worm with horns on each segment of its body and two long very flexible feelers used to grab unsuspecting trespassers. Size varies from 1 to 2 meters.
Diet: Carnivorous.
Habitat: Found on the edge of the Safezone and in the Wastes; they prefer to stay buried in the ground.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: It can spew sticky fluid that slows its prey, since the worm moves very slowly. Usually it stays buried in the ground, only its mouth and feelers sticking out of it.

Name: Killer Rabbit
Classification: Rodent, Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Classic rabbit, most commonly see with white fur. Adults seem to be from 3-6 pounds, short-haired. While they look like normal rabbits, they have sharp teeth that line the top and bottom of their mouths. Two long fangs are the most obvious feature along with its wide-opening mouth.
Diet: Carnivorous, seems to be anything that has blood.
Habitat: Seems to be more akin to the outer regions of the City and very numerous in the Wastelands.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Tame unless provoked. Easy to mistake with normal rabbits. Use caution when approaching any rodent. Unknown if carrying disease.

Name: Kappa
Classification: Water sprite
Physical Characteristics: Child-sized humanoids, their bodies are similar to monkeys or frogs. Their face is like a tortoise and they have a thick shell on the back and scaly skin that ranges from green to blue to yellow.

They have a water-filled depression on the top of their head. The water is what they gain their strength from and if the water is spilled, they are weakened and may even die.
Diet: Small children, but may eat adults as well.
Habitat: Deep in the lake, small ones may be found in the river.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Highly mischevious, they enjoy playing pranks on people that can range from looking up a woman's skirt to stealing food and children.

Name: Rodent of Unusual Size (ROUS)
Classification: Rodent (large)
Physical Characteristics: Looks similar to a grotesque rat, complete with hairless tail, and can grow to almost the size of an average male human. Has uneven sharp teeth and a large nose.
Diet: Anything the same size or smaller that it can take down.
Habitat: Normally in wooded areas, the ROUS's have gone urban due to the nature of Adstringendum, and they're not happy about it.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Thought to be a myth even in their own world, ROUS's are originally reclusive creatures, but they will stalk and attack anything in their 'territory' that's human sized or smaller when hungry.

Name: Sandworm
Classification: Megadrile
Physical Characteristics: Appearance is very similar to that of a common earthworm. They have Crystalline teeth for dealing primarily with rocks and sand. Teeth are arranged around the rim of it's mouth. Size can vary up to hundreds of metres in length.
Diet: Omnivore
Habitat: Underground in the sandy areas of the Wastelands.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Young are tamer than adults. Adults are very protective of their own and territorial. Tend to attack solo but can attack in groups. Can be eaten.

Name: Sleipnir
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Basically, it looks like a small stuffed horse. It looks friendly (and it is), though it tends to avoid civilization. They are as tall as somewhere below the knee of an average person. They also come in different colors of fur.
Diet: Herbivore, preferring grass
Habitat: Can be found in the greener areas of the Safezone. Will never appear inside urban areas or buildings.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information:It is said that if you are able to kick a Sleipnir, it will grant you some strength for a limited time. However, the Sleipnir is exceptionally fast, and catching it would be a hard job.

Name: Squid, aka Squid-tan or Ikaguro (formerly under "C" for Colossal Squid)
Classification: Invertebrate, Marine Cephalopod
Physical Characteristics: The colossal squid is like a normal squid with a larger, more robust mantle, two dorsal fins, eight legs and two tentacles. However its beak is longer and sharper, and its tentacles are equipped with sharp hooks - and it is estimated to be between 46-52 feet long.
Diet: Carnivorous, anything from fish to whatever falls into the lake.
Habitat: The Lake
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Though this species normally exists in deep-sea environments, this particular squid has adapted to the lesser water pressure of the lake of Adstringéndum. It seems to be shy and stays mostly in the deeper waters, but may come near the surface in its quest for food.

Semi-adopted by the residents of Adstringendum as a local curiosity and pseudo-mascot, the squid has been given many names by different people. Frequently attacked by the foolhardy and adventuresome, the squid seemingly refuses to be killed.

((Squid-tan is our mascot, so there will be no killing of him/her. There is only one. Occasionally, due to events, smaller squids will be present, either in the lake or another body of water. The smaller squids can be killed (for food or pleasure, but not "Squid-tan."))

Name: Swan Dragon
Classification: Avian Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Medium sized (about the size of a large male tiger) winged reptile covered in white feathers, recognizable because of the orange, swan-like beak and the front limbs and tail which are covered in scales the same color as the beak.
Diet: ???
Habitat: Usually can be found inhabiting savannah and desert areas.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: The Swan Dragon is not as aggressive as the other members of its family and an individual can eventually be tamed by someone who demonstrates to hold power over it.

Name: Tegu
Classification:Reptile
Physical Characteristics:Tegus are relatively large lizards that can grow to a length of about 4 ft. Their jaws are quite powerful and can cause quite a painful bite. They are normally calm unless hungry or provoked.
Diet:Carnivorous
Habitat:Warm forested or rocky areas.
Lifespan: 10-15 Years
Additional Information:Can be tamed, if one has knowledge of reptilian pets. Also come in a variety of colors and species.

Name: Toadstools
Classification: Fungi
Physical Characteristics: Appearance of giant shrooms, brown. Vulnerable to fire. Its tentacles are used to grab the victims after poisoning them. Grow in colonies, with time they gain the ability to crawl.
Diet: Carnivorous, will try to eat anything that comes near.
Habitat: Safezone. Found in abandoned buildings. Dark places with enough humidity and animals.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: It reacts to vibrations and releases spores into the air. The spores contain a slowly working poison. Upon inhaling the spores, the victim feels sleepy or weaker, feels headaches, and/or vertigo. If the person does not leave the area quickly, they may lose consciousness. Breathing in fresh air weakens the side-effects. The poison wears off very slowly, even as long as month and half.

Name: Tooth Fairies
Classification: Winged Creatures
Physical Characteristics: Tooth Fairies aren't very large, at best they might be around the size of a boot (height wise.) They have a blue-green-gray hue, varying with the type of lighting. They have four legs and two arms (with spiked ridges on them) and they have wings on their back. Their teeth do not appear all that sharp but they can cut through skin in seconds.
Diet: Calcium- either the kind found in flesh, tissue, organs but most commonly teeth, hence the name. If they can, they will go for your teeth first and leave nothing behind of the body but their own droppings.
Habitat: Forested areas in the Waste, though with proper food can survive anywhere.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: They tend to swarm their victims in great numbers, shredding whoever they have made a meal out of in no time at all. Despite how ravenous they are, the Tooth Fairies are capable of thought and speaking (even if it isn't in a language anyone but their own kind recognizes.)

Name: Warp Stalker
Classification: Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Scale color can vary from white to dark purple to dark green to bright red-orange. The common characteristic is their glowing eyes, spikes protruding from its back, sharp claws on its feet, and spiked tail. The average adult is 10-15 feet from nose to tail and 2-4 feet tall at the shoulder.
Diet: Fish and fruit, though it has been known to attack humans when provoked.
Habitat: Rare in the Safezone, it prefers the environment of the Wastelands. However, it is not uncommon for it to settle in the abandoned and undisturbed corners of the city.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Smart and powerful creatures, they are able to phase in and out of physical and astral dimensions. Their shifting has been known to disturb magical energy in the area. They can be aggressive when provoked or threatened, but with proper training, can be ridden as mounts. They are also edible.

Name: Wind Serpent
Classification: Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Wind serpents are basically flying constrictor snakes roughly 4 to 6 feet long and weighing up to 50 pounds. Their scales can vary from any hue, light or dark, and their plumage usually match their scales as well, but tipped red or yellow.
Diet: Carnivorous, feeds on small rabbits and rodents, larger ones may hunt wild pigs.
Habitat: Especially fond of areas with trees, but can adapt to any location provided there is a steady food source.
Lifespan: Unknown.
Additional Information: They are not aggressive, but can be very territorial. A few variations are more viper-like and a single bite is enough to kill a normal adult human. Both variations are very fast. Young wind serpents can be tamed as pets.

Name: Yodare aka "Hell Cat"
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Has the appearance and size of a young kitten except with a grotesque face featuring large hungry eyes and a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.
Diet: Anything it can get it's teeth and claws on. Enjoys things that it can tear to shreds.
Habitat: Urban. Abundant in recently abandoned areas with things to rip apart but are rare in the wastelands.
Lifespan: Unknown. They also eat each other so they don't last long.
Additional Information: They drool excessively; especially when angered or excited (easy to do since they seem to understand human language and behavior). Their teeth also fall out easily but grow back quickly too like a shark's. They become intensely focused on tearing something to shreds so it is wise to carry a decoy object to toss at them while you make your getaway.

Alright, so here is the map of the city! As a note, just because a building or place isn't labeled on the map, doesn't mean that it does not exist. People live all over the place and what are considered important points in the city to know are listed here. This will be updated as needed :)

Konzen the cat (Sanzo's pet), Jack the dog (Ginia's pet), Goku's pet bird, Kanzeon's pet killer rabbit, Zhong the sugar glider (Gojyo's pet), Gyuu the Cow (Goku's fault) and a flying squirrel also reside there.

Other notes: It's a pretty big house with a household that's free to do whatever it wants, as long as they behave. Animals include Next the kitten, Argent the snake, Seiko the big mutant sparrow, a turtle, two goldfish and whatever poor lost things that Jotaro happened to bring in that day, as well as an outdoors aviary with a changing number of giant moths.

Other notes: What appears to have once been an old bed and breakfast, it has a large apple tree growing in the middle of it that serves as a way up to the second floor and bedrooms, because the staircase is rotted through. One whole wall is missing on the opposite side of the entrance. Has a well, and other boarding improvements are slowly being looked into.

The total capacity is around 40 people; seating at the bar is designed for eight people (though 10-12 can fit in if seats are pulled over and people squish together) with booths and tables providing seating in the rest of the bar.

All ages are allowed in her bar, though she won't serve anyone underage (18 for all purposes) alcohol unless they provide to be responsible. Non-alcoholic drinks include water, peach milk, and any available fruit juice. Drinks are paid through exchanging supplies, information, or an interesting story or two. Water is always free, new arrivals get a free drink or two on their first visit to the bar.

For entertainment, there are pool tables and dart boards (cue sticks and darts can be rented out from Ginia) in addition to board games, books, and card decks. There is a jukebox that is free to play and can also be set up for karaoke. There is also a piano, but no one is allowed to play it without permission.

Other notes: The building is located near the church. Vincent was the first occupant and lent parts of the buildings to other people in need. He occupies the entire last floor by himself, and one room reserved for Itachi. He also considers the building full to capacity right now and won't accept anymore tenants.

THE STORY
It was the year 2008 when it happened...
A certain group in the scientific community was taking that step forward into the future, aspiring to attain the answer to the universe that we all have sought for thousands of years. The Unified Universe Project was put into action, and that summer the group behind it was to reveal their miraculous invention: the Equator. As the name states, it was to derive the equation that would answer everything, give the key to the universe and all within it. A complicated project, years in planning, a product of their hopes and dreams. July 29th, 2008, with billions of people across the world watching a live broadcast, their ideas were put to the test, and the machine was activated. And it could not have gone more wrong. An equation it did derive, but not to their liking. Bits of the special universe began to expand and collapse, and the space-time that held reality together collapsed, caving and distorting the world into something no one recognized. At least...as a whole.	For those that survived, the world they found themselves in was familiar and strange at the same time. Creatures and beings thought never to exist outside of the imagination were suddenly real. The Unified Universe Project sought to explain the mystery, and began to realize that it was no, in fact, that the universe had collapsed or broken in... ...It was that time itself had compressed, and the fluctuations of the every changing and growing universe were pressed into one point, bringing into existence things long gone and things to come.　Peoples from different worlds and different times, billions of years and different universe collapses and rebirths apart, all in the same place. The game begins after the Time Compression, where all worlds have been squished into one. The landscape is that of destroyed cities and often discolored forests, fields, and the ever changing sky. It looks like a constant battle of one reality trying to overtake the other, but never quite making it. As time continues to squeeze into one single reality, people are knocked out, only to find themselves woken up in the strange new place. Each series/game/movie/book/show will be taken as a separate universe that has been/is being compressed. Characters will arrive as their world becomes assimilated. Because it is not only space, but time that is compressed, even characters from the same world may find themselves coming into contact with someone they know that seems to be from their future or past. (You can take a character from any point in their series). While the Unified Universe Project works to reverse the problem, in the meantime they have developed a Palm Pilot-like device that people all over can use to keep updated on the state of the project and to communicate with each other. However, in their efforts to fix their mistake, the Project seems to make more, causing the world to change even more. The Spirits take their chances as well to take out their anger on the people by messing with their times, genetic make-up, and more.

A certain group in the scientific community was taking that step forward into the future, aspiring to attain the answer to the universe that we all have sought for thousands of years. The Unified Universe Project was put into action, and that summer the group behind it was to reveal their miraculous invention: the Equator.
 
As the name states, it was to derive the equation that would answer everything, give the key to the universe and all within it. A complicated project, years in planning, a product of their hopes and dreams. July 29th, 2008, with billions of people across the world watching a live broadcast, their ideas were put to the test, and the machine was activated.
 
And it could not have gone more wrong.
 
An equation it did derive, but not to their liking. Bits of the special universe began to expand and collapse, and the space-time that held reality together collapsed, caving and distorting the world into something no one recognized. At least...as a whole.

Common terms and vocab you may see used in the RP! Just for reference. List may be added to as RP progresses!

✗ Adstringéndum: The world created from the compressed state of time, where the inhabitants of different universes find themselves. Named after the Latin word for "compression". Common nicknames include Adstring, Adstri, and AD.

✗ Animus: Spirits stuck in the compressed world. Known to be easily angered and often meddle in the affairs of others to varying degrees. Cannot be seen, only felt.

✗ Equator, The: The invention of the Unified Universe Project that rewrote the equation for Time and Space, compressing time and creating Adstringéndum.

✗ Portable Communication Device (PCD): This is the palm pilot-like device given to everyone who arrives. For more information on these devices, please see the In-depth FAQ.

✗ Safezone: The area within a 20 mile radius of The Equator. It is relatively stable (though nothing is perfect) and is where most people are currently living and trying to rebuild. For more information on the Safezone, please see the In-depth FAQ.

✗ Unified Universe Project, The: The group of scientists that created The Equator. Currently trying to fix things, though in the process they further play with the make-up of existence.

✗ Wastelands: The devastated vastness beyond the Safezone. Constantly changing as different worlds compress and try to overtake one another. Strange beats have been known to prowl, malformed combinations of species that should have never existed in the same space. For more information on the Wastelands, please see the In-depth FAQ.

These should be followed! Some are basic etiquette, others that will help you when posting. Be sure to read them BEFORE you apply!

→ THE BASICS

→ FIRST AND FOREMOST, do be nice to your fellow players. We’re all here to have fun, not to stir things up and cause trouble for others. Don’t allow issues amongst players leak over to the game. If there is an issue amongst players, or with anything else, please bring it to a mod’s attention. We’ll do our best to get things sorted out for everyone involved.

Harassment of other players will not be tolerated. This includes unwanted, overly-personal/sexual attentions, pushing for tags/plot/pairings when one or more players has shown disinterest, and pursuing personal information and accounts on other sites of your fellow players if the information has not been offered (aka stalking). If you feel you are being harassed, please bring it to the moderators' attention as soon as possible.

This along with any other major issue- such as ignoring moderators or plagiarizing applications- will result in a 'black mark', and with three major offenses, the player will be banned from the community.

Minor issues, which aren't as severe but still notable, include: info-modding, rude comments to other players, and/or off-topic and attention-seeking behavior in chat. These will be handled by a moderator and a warning may be issued. If these warnings are ignored or the behavior is continued, it will then be a major offense.

→ No god-modding of any sort. This means no dictating the actions of another players character, or saying event “x” happened to player “b” without discussing it with the player(s) first.

→ On the same thread as the above point, knowledge that is gained OOC (out of character) is not to be used IC (in character) unless it is GAINED ICly. This is called info-modding. It also extends to characters who seem to know everything. It should be discussed with the players in question, should your character have ways to gain this information.

→ If you wish to have a player made event that would greatly affect the game in some way, please be sure to clear it via the mods first and foremost. A minimum of 48 hours notice should be given to the players at large, and moreso the moderators.

→ Stay active. There is a minimum requirement of 2 posts a month, and subsequently, at least one post every two weeks.

→ Please be sure to post letting us know if you need to go on a hiatus, and make sure to list the characters affected by your hiatus.

→ Most importantly: Stay in character. It doesn’t help your fellow players if you play a canonly total badass as a flower loving hippie.

→ You are allowed a maximum of six characters, either fandom characters, or OC characters. You cannot app for an OC until you’ve actively played a character for one full activity period. Also, you may only app one character (fandom OR OC) every two weeks.

→ Keep your friend’s list updated. That way you can keep track of the going’s on. This community allows for het, yaoi, and yuri. But please, be logical in how your characters get paired, off if they do.

→ We’ve no rating for the game, but as a rule of thumb, anything that would be considered rated R and above, at least put under an lj-cut. NC-17 situations must be f-locked, no questions asked. There’ll be no flagging of this community.

→ APPLICATIONS

→ This should be obvious, but please fill out the application entirely! Don't leave any field blank. We also do not accept information copied-and-pasted from outside sources. Please write everything in your own words.

Applications found to be plagiarized from another player will be rejected and the applicant will be barred from applying. There is no excuse for trying to pass someone else's work off as your own.

→ SPELL CHECK before submitting! We all make typos, but a quick run-through will really help.

→ You may only submit one application every two weeks. After you have all 6, you may not app another character unless you drop one of your pups.

→ You MUST have a Canon Character for two weeks and be active before you can app an OC.

→ If you have any specific questions on applications, you can ask the mods on the FAQ page or send us an e-mail or IM.

→ If you are asked to rewrite any part of your application, you have a week to resubmit or to get in contact with us if you need an extension. After a week is over, the character once more open to application by all.

→ ACTIVITY & ACTIVITY CHECKS

→ You will be asked to post in your journal at least twice a month or make one journal post and post one completed log or post two logs with one of them completed. That's not too hard, is it?

→ If you are heading off somewhere, be sure to let us know in the com. We will make note of it in our special mod notes, but please note that hiatuses lasting more than a month will be counted in the upcoming activity check. Unless there are specific issues, we will hold them for a month only. If you have any questions or know there is a good reason you will be away longer, please speak with one of the mods.

→ There will be monthly activity checks. If you haven't posted, you will be put on the warning list. You will NEED to reply and update your journal if you want to keep your character. If you do not update your journal and reply to the activity check post, we will have to assume that that character is not active and you will LOSE YOUR CHARACTER and will be removed from the list ): We don't want this to happen!

→ If you want to app your lost character again, you must wait at least 2 weeks after they were lost to app them again. If they get lost due to activity again, you may not app that character.

→ If you find your character on the activity check more than once, don't worry too much. However, we're doing the usual "Three strikes, you're out!" rule: if your chara is on the list three times, they will be dropped from the game. That's why Hiatus posts are IMPORTANT!

→ There is no requirement log-wise, but we encourage you to do them :)

→ GENERAL QUESTIONS

✗ What does "Adstringéndum" mean?
It means "compression" in Latin.

✗ Who are the moderators of the game?
The current moderators of the game are Dùlin, Jackie, Joan, Penbee, and Youkofox. All of us work together to keep this game running as smoothly as possible.

→ APPLYING AND APPLICATIONS

✗ Is there a way for me to reserve a character?
Yes! You can reserve any character you wish to play that is NOT on the taken page here. Please note you can only reserve one character at a time :)

✗ The character I want to play is on the taken page. Now what?
Well, we encourage you to join with another character! Who knows? If the character you wanted drops, you're more than welcome to pick them up.

✗ I see some really long applications. Do I need to have 5 comments worth to get in?
No, you don't. You will also see we approve some shorter applications as well. What is most important is that you show that you understand the character and can write well. Being wordy or not is more of a stylistic thing, though longer applications do tend to have more info packed in.

✗ Can I apply for more than one character from the same series?
Yes! Provided that the characters are not too closely related. As an example, Freya-mod dropped Rangiku from Bleach when she decided she was better off with playing Gin. Playing them both would be talking to yourself half the time, since they share such a history. Please keep things like this in mind!

✗ Can I apply for a duplicate of a character?
No, we're not taking duplicates.

✗ What if they're from another series?
This does happen. Clamp, for example, has its crossover series Tsubasa. You can apply for that duplicate only if they have a different history and story-line than the first. For example - we have two Kamui's, but one is from X and one is from Tsubasa. They are different enough to be considered two different characters.

✗ Does my character have to be human?
No, they do not.

✗ What if I want to app a spirit or a ghost? Would that be the same as an Animus?
If you want to apply as a spirit being, you are more than welcome to. However, they will be visible to other characters. An example of this would be the Bleach Shinigami, who in this game still can do what they do, but they are solid forms.

It would not be the same as an Animus, who are spirit beings but from a separate dimension. They hold a lot of power over events in the game and we would like to keep them separate from other spiritual beings, too.

✗ I want to apply with an Original Character as my first muse. Can I do this?
No, sorry. It's not because we want to stifle creativity, but to try and keep down the much feared Mary Sue/Gary Stus from popping up, we ask that you apply with a canon character first so we can make sure that you are active and committed before apping an OC.

✗ I think the mods missed my app...
THEN WE ARE DUMB DX Please send us a message! But remember, if there's a whole bunch of apps around yours then we haven't checked them either. We try not to overlook any so please let us know.

✗ How often do you go over applications?
We try to go over apps once a week, usually in the middle of the week. So if you don't get a response right away, don't worry! We still see it.

✗ Can I just link to a wikipedia background page?
No. We know backgrounds aren't the most enjoyable parts of the applying process, but we do think it shows that you know the history of the character. You can use other sites for reference, of course, but don't just copy and paste.

Also, do not plagiarize. If it is discovered you are attempting to pass off another person's application as your own, you will be rejected and barred from applying at this game.

✗ Can I apply for an original character from an established world?
OCs from already established worlds are fair game, just make sure you note what the world is. Generally however, we don't allow canon-OCs (a canon-OC being a character that's established within the canon, but you dictate all of the character's moves and actions; example being the main character from Fable) or OCs that are suddenly attached to every main character without a logical reason (aka self-inserts).

→ ACTIVITY AND ACTIVITY CHECKS

✗ When do you do activity checks?
Once a month, usually at the beginning of the following month. For example, the activity check for June is often posted at the beginning of July. They generally last one week.

✗ What happens if I'm on the activity check?
We put your name on a list and tell you that you haven't updated your journal. If you see yourself, you simply update your journal and let us know that you did so. We'll take you off the list. However, you are asked not to apply for any character for one week after you have cleared the check.

✗ What if I'm on the activity check more than once?
Three strikes and you're out. So please remember to update! We want to have a lively, active community.

✗ What if I'm on hiatus and miss an activity check/my second post for that month?
If you're going on a hiatus, let us know! Post in the OOC community and we'll take a note of it. If you're on hiatus you will be exempt from one activity check. However, some hiatus have been lasting months on end...

✗ What if I'm on hiatus for more than one month?
We ask that your hiatuses don't last more than one month if it's possible to control. Being inactive for a few months and holding onto that character isn't fair to the people that interact with them and others who would like to app them. But, we know that some things in real life are just uncontrollable. If you let us know you're on hiatus and one month passes, if it's possible please just check in with us and let us know what is going on. If you have a good reason, we will extend your hiatus for another month.

Eventually, being on a continuous hiatus will mean forfeiting your character ): It's not that we want to be mean, but if you're not around to roleplay, there's no sense in having the character. You're welcome to apply again if/when you're able to come back :)

→ IN-GAME QUESTIONS

✗ How does my character get here?
Well, each world is being compressed into one, and it may not all happen at once! So when your character is brought here, it is literally like hitting a wall, and getting knocked out, then waking up in the WTF world we call Adstringéndum :) They will end up in the Safezone, and after that can run around wherever they want at their own discretion.

✗ How does my character communicate with everyone else?
Upon arriving in the world, your character will be given a PCD (Personal Communication Device). They may find it near them, mysteriously placed in their belongings, or even handed one by a complete stranger. This is the primary way of communicating with everyone over the network. ✗ What are the areas of the world called?
The world is divided into two main zones. Currently, a roughly 20 mile zone around The Equator is called the "Safezone" and is habitable to live in. Work is constantly done to expand the Safezone to allow for more people to reside there as people filter in. The rest of the world is generally called the "Wastelands," due to its devastated state. Also, due to the compression, there are beasts of all shapes and sizes that roam the wastes, so it's a very "enter at your own risk" situation. ✗ Who are the "Animus"? What do they do?
The Animus are spirits, essentially, as it means "spirit" in Latin. Not just human souls, but ethereal beings that existed in the Spirit World. As their world compressed with the other physical realities, they became stuck in the makeup, unable to take form or truly interact with the environment as they normally could.

So, they are quite cranky. They will take advantage of you if you're in an out of body, spirit form. (This means if you die, not like Shinigami and whatnot). And since they cannot interact with the world itself, they take out their anger on the people. If they work hard enough, they can take away your voice, to making you change your genetic make-up for a period of time. It really depends on how they feel like showing their disdain. The Project constantly tries to see if there is a way to stop them from involving themselves, but so far nothing has worked, if not only angered them further.

✗ Is there a way out?
Good question! So far, no. There is no "out" to be had as all the worlds squish together, meaning there will be only one time and place. Once the compression is complete, the Project speculates there may be no way back.

✗ So, is there like, a big scientific organization in charge of everything?
Not at the moment, no. However, that doesn't mean one can't develop. The Unified Universe Project is currently just doing what it can to make up for the big oops that they did when everything got screwed up. However, if your character wants to make a move forward with the Project or try and create their own sense of order, by all means go ahead! Just be sure to keep it in the not god-modding category, okie dokie?

✗ What about my powers? Can I use them here?
Yes, you can. There may be fluctuations in that ability as the Project tries to fix things, but in general you may. The mods will announce when powers are suddenly unattainable or enhanced, etc. Now, because you have your powers, we want you to BE RESPONSIBLE with them. Don't go blow up the place, please! As an explanation IC, we will say that the Project says the world is too fragile for that kind of stuff :3 Maybe later, we'll let you know.

✗ Sweet! I can use my powers, so now I can pwn everyone!
No, not necessarily :/ You can use your powers, but anything that has to do with altering time won't work here, sorry! This is time getting squished, after all. As for "my character is way stronger than yours" because they're from different series and have different abilities...well, that will happen, but there are consequences for using a lot of power here. The Safezone is the most stable, but the place as a whole is still being held together with like space duct tape. Going Super Saiyan gazillion will probably not only piss off the Animus and have them knock you into a pond of goo or something, but it may also cause a rip in the space time. That could completely change an area or even screw up your own abilities. Use them with caution.

So yes, you do have your abilities, but it is advised not to use them all to their limits. And if someone says "that's okay, my low power can keel you", while in some cases that may be true (like if Aizen from Bleach wanted to blow up Card Captor Sakura), we ask you to merely be nice to other players. You cannot control things that happen to someone else's character, so if you want to fight them without your full power for whatever reason, go ahead as long as you and the other player have discussed things. Just don't blow up the world, mmkay? For character death, see below.

✗ What happens if I die here?
Another good question! Hopefully you won't, but it's entirely possible. What will happen is you'll be sent back, since the spirit world has been compressed with the "real" world as well. However, your soul will enter your body as is, so you may be in a lot of pain when you come back depending on how you died. If you got blown to pieces, they will just come back together. The Project isn't sure exactly why this is happening. However, there may be consequences for dying other than just pain. The Animus don't like people coming into their spiritual state, especially while they're already upset, so they may just take something away from you while you're in your spirit form, be it a possession, memory, or ability. You can be dead for the period of time you want for your character, be it an hour to a week or more, but you will eventually have to come. All character deaths must be approved by a moderator at least 24 hours in advance. Please provide the following information: Character who will die, cause of death, duration they will be missing from Adstringéndum, and what they will lose upon returning to life.

✗ What is a character reset and how do I do it?
A character reset is what it sounds like; the character is being reset and returns to Adstring without any memories of their previous time. We understand there are times when a character may need to be reset for a variety of reasons ranging from needing to update to a further point in their canon to realizing the character has gone OOC and needs a fresh start and we allow character resets to help with these situations.

To reset a character, take the following steps:
1) Email or contact a moderator to let them know the character will be reset. Provide the following information: character, reason for the reset, if any changes to their canon will be made, and any other details we may need to know about (if the character will gain new abilities, they'll come back missing a leg, etc.)

2) The character disappears from Adstring for a minimum of one week and the character cannot be played during that time (any backlogging aside). We place this time limit in order to allow players to refresh their canon and work out how a reset character would be played. Also, this time allows the characters to ICly realize someone has disappeared and react as needed. If for any reason you need a character to disappear for a shorter period of time, we can discuss it, but a week is the standard.

3) When a reset character returns, they will have no memories of their prior time in Adstring. It will be a fresh start for them. While they can regain memories overtime, they will never remember anything 100%. What they remember or don't remember is left up to the player.

4) A character who died in Adstring and was reset will keep the price that was lost. Resets are not a way to get around character deaths. While they do not have to begin with the price lost (if they lost a memory of someone, they can return with those memories intact), that price will be repaid over time. This is a process that takes no longer than a month.

5) A character can only be reset once every six months.

✗ Can my character get pregnant?
While we realize some players may want their characters to have children or become pregnant and it is certainly a realistic thing that can occur, there are very heavy restrictions on pregnancy. The reason is because if a child is born, remember that child is still a living, breathing, person who will need attention and care. The child will have to be played out by someone and taken care of and is not as easy as it seems. And if one of the parents was to disappear from Adstring for any reason, that child would remain behind. Also roleplaying out the duration of the pregnancy can be very difficult without research and some care taken into it. Overall, it can be a headache for everyone.

If you are set on a plot where your character becomes pregnant but ultimately does not give birth for one reason or another, you must contact a moderator with a detail plan of what will happen. You will provide the following information; characters involved, how this will impact your character, how this will impact other characters closely related to yours, the reason you want to do this plot, what will happen during each month with any possible changes consideration, the end result, and impact on your character. We realize this may be a lot of information, but this is a plot that should be taken seriously and not made up on the fly.

For something small like a pregnancy scare or any other false alarms, no mod approval or notice is required.

Under no circumstances can males become pregnant.
