I'm leaving at the ungodly hour of 2:30am to the airport to catch a flight to Orlando Florida to transfer to the Celebrity Cruise Lines ship Apex. I'm going on the "Bears On Deck" cruise to Key West, Bimini (The Bahamas), Cozumel (Mexico) and then back to the good ol' USA. Eight days and seven nights with a whole bunch of Bears and other things to do.

I keep seeing things about people using their smart phones to deposit a check. However the app from my credit union didn't offer the feature, so I've never particularly been worried about it. Recently the credit union updated their app and today I took the big step and deposited a check via the app. I had to re-take the image of the front of the check, it said that the MICR code was "infringed" upon, but it used the second image and the deposit was successful. Go me!!

Merry Christmas to all my LJ friends.

It's been a difficult month for me to get through with the loss of my Mother, I haven't sent out any holiday cards, given any gifts or any of that kind of thing. I've basically sat around and wallowed in my grief (just like I'm doing now).

But I wanted you all to know you're in my thoughts and as I read the posts here, I feel like you're around me. Thank you!

Sad news...

Four years ago my Mother had a serious stroke causing all sorts of difficulty in her day to day life. She was admitted to one of the area's best nursing and rehabilitation centers. They got her to the point where she was up and about, getting around on her walker like nobody's business. Then, over this last summer, she fell and broke her hip. Since then she's slowed down a lot, but gets around quite well in her wheelchair. Over the last week she's had an infection and has been seriously out of it. Tonight when the medications nurse took her her nightly meds she found her having problems breathing. 911 was called and they worked on her. Unfortunately she passed away. My Mother would have been 94 on December 27th. There will be a memorial service later this month.

Well, it's been said that I'm always behind the times. But in this case I wish I'd never caught up with them. I've got COVID. I suspect that I was exposed at Mother's nursing home. She's got it too. I've put in a call to my primary care physician for a prescription for paxlovid. I guess I'm not going out for the next week or so.

In case it didn't make it to your local news, the Dallas area had MAJOR storms last Tuesday morning leaving over 600,000 customers without power, including yours truly. From 6:15am Tuesday morning until just before 8pm last night, no electricity. I was down to my last 34% on my iPhone. Everything in the fridge and deep freeze was lost. But worst of all, no internet for all that time. I didn't realize how serious my addiction to the 'net is. Oh, but it was lovely to sleep with the A/C on last night and to sleep with my CPAP machine running.

Neighbors who don't give a f*** and don't speak English to boot!

I am totally aware that I, a white male in his late-60's, am in the minority in the neighborhood I live in. I also am very aware that I am the longest single remaining homeowner here (yeah I know, big whoop-dee-doo). BUT, that gives the Mexican's living across the street from me no right to have parties with loud music, fireworks, screaming children and car alarm wars going on at 1am in the morning. I've put up with this before and just kept it to myself. This morning enough was enough so I called the 911 and reported them. The Mesquite police department had a car here within five minutes... and shortly after a second car showed up as well (good thing I don't need out of my driveway, but I wouldn't dare). There are SEVEN vehicles parked over there. Two in the front yard, two in front of the house on the street, two in front of MY house on the street and one in their driveway. I'm pissed that the police didn't get here in time to see the fireworks, but they did get here to see three of the cars with their alarms sounding loudly.

As much as I hope this will do something to stop this behavior, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm going to take a tranquilizer and go back to bed with hopes that I'll get what is the rest of tonights sleep.

Arghhh... Insomnia has me, again!

Seems like there's a night every couple of weeks where I wake up WAY too early in the morning and just cannot go back to sleep. This morning it was at 1:40-ish. It's now 4 and I've done everything including laying in bed with my eyes closed trying to go back to sleep, reading, got up and had a mug of warm milk (that never works, but it's comforting). So now I'm online and kvetching to the world about how put out I am. Sorry folks...
