G’day cobbers!

In the 304th year of the Romanov empire,
in the 577th week of Putin's invading Ukraine,
and in the 160th week of the R’F’s war on Ukraine, the Russo-Ukrainian War,

Can You Hear Me?about the life of army medics and their time for rest and recreation in Sweden. A film by Francis Farrell and Olena Zashko - 58 minutes.

I recommend this beautiful but harrowing film, especially to warriors, returned-service people, hakims, medics, chaplains: oh, and to schoolteachers (but not to their pupils — R-rated).

Find a quiet hour.

Call for Left Anti-Imperialist Support for ‘Stand With Ukraine’ Rally,
Sunday 23 February, King George Square

In February 2014, forces of the Russian Federation (‘Moscow’) invaded Ukraine.
On 22 February 2022, Moscow’s dictator declared his intention to sweep out the Kyiv government and to replace it with one amenable to Moscow.
Two days later, Moscow began the Russo-Ukrainian War.

The Ukrainian community association for Queensland (UCQ) seeks the support of all who oppose Moscow’s imperialist aggression and invites them to a rally in King George Square at 2 pm on Sunday 23 February 2025. (Stand With Ukraine rallies will be held on this week-end around the world.)

Left and liberal Ukrainians extend a particular request to leftists and liberals for support. Practical measures for support include: Read More »

This is a cool poster celebrating Queensland's cultural diversity.

And if you're in Meanjin this weekend, perhaps you'd note our sponsorship announcement about the Multicultural Mass at the recently-opened Queen of Vietnamese Martyrs church in Inala on Sunday afternoon.

It feautures in the latest Just Peace Ukraine, which leads with

Just Peace Ukraine 2024 h 05

Latest "Just Peace Ukraine"
This week’s cover image is a photo taken by Ukrainian photographer, Maryan Kushnir. Her images have provided an exceptional, if heartbreaking, visual record of the war in Ukraine and the courage of Ukraine’s soldiers and citizens. You can follow her amazing work here. (thnx Mick Ryan)

The picture is of Nadezhda Buyanova, who was born in Lviv on 29 March 1956, but has lived in Russia since 1995. The Ukrainian-born paediatrician faces long sentence on ‘fake news’ charge based on true words about Russia’s war against Ukraine. (Thnx Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group)

You can read more about Ukraine and Ukrainians' struggle for freedom in Just Peace Ukraine, a weekly round-up of readings and commentary mostly about the Russo-Ukrainian War, but with heaps of other interesting stuff as well.
