What's new in version 8.6
Changes
- The ML models used for Super Resolution, Remove Background / Mask Subject / etc… are no longer included by default. Instead, Acorn will download them the first time you try and use one of those operations. By making it an optional download, we’ve trimmed up the size of Acorn’s application size quite a bit, and if you never use these features, why take up the disk space?
- It will also make updating Acorn’s app quicker since it’s no longer included.
- We’ve also heard from a number of you that you don’t want to use apps that include a whiff of AI, so this is a little nod to you as well.
- SVG import improvements. Always making it better.
- When searching the filters via the filters panel, Acorn does a much better at fuzzy matching now.
- Got rid of the sliding animations in the layers list when you add or remove a row. Acorn feels faster without them.
- Updated Russian localization.

- Removed the option in the pixel tool to use stylus pressure.
Fixes
- General stability improvements.
- Fixed a bug where you couldn’t drag filters from one window to another from the filters list.

I am not a heavy user of any of the editing apps but ever once in a while I come across something that I need to do and have found Acorn to be extremely valuable. Like the other day I was putting up a bunch of sketches that I had taken snapshots of and I wanted to crop them and correct them for skew. Darn if there was not a function that made that super easy to do in acorn and fast. I also use pixelmator classic and nothing wrong with that but I just find most of the time that acorn works more like I do. I am sure there are things in photoshop that this could not do but again if it is going to take something as powerful as gimp or photoshop I am unlikely to do it. In using it over to 5 years now I also have never had it glitch out or crash once which is pretty unreal. I have also a few times used it with automator and it works fine there as well.

Currently on sale: "Acorn 8 introductory sale! . . . $19.99 (2 or more @ 14.99 ea.)" - - As usual, upgrades cost the same as buying Acorn new. IOW $19.99 to upgrade to v8.

Acorn keeps leveling up my graphics game with every update. Each release, whether minor or major, is like having a fresh cup of coffee. AI Subject Selection in Acorn v8? More like AI mind-reading! Live Text Tool? Basically sorcery! And don't get me started on those LUTs – I can now look like a professional colorist without actually being one. Instant buy!

Acorn is a one-of-a-kind graphics editor and toolkit that can be automated via scripting. It is user-friendly, powerful, slick, and modern — all that compressed into an app that takes up ±50 MB of disk space. That takes some serious engineering and love of own product on the part of app developers. The support is very friendly and responsive too. Two words — highly recommended. Even though I also own Affinity Photo v1 & v2, I find myself using Acorn more then the former.
