Hello, old livejournal. Here I am again. Me. Your negligent owner who could not delete you, but left you here... an abandoned cybershrine to the huge chunk of my life you once occupied.

What am I doing back? Why, I am once again glutting myself on fanfic. Specifically, Severus Snape fanfic. Before I take the plunge and READ THE LAST BOOK.

Yes, I still have not read it. Book Seven. The one that came out over 3 years ago, and that I bought at midnight on the day of its release. I did open it. Once. I even read the last few pages. I saw who lived, who died, the cheesy ending, and then I closed it and put it on its shelf with the others, where it has remained.

Yes, I'm serious.

You know, at this point it would suit me fine if I never read the damned thing. You see, a horrible but inevitable thing happens in this book. My Severus Snape ends. I still can't even say it! Ok... He DIES. And as much as I know that is how it should end, because what sort of life would he have had after Voldemort is defeated? Can you really imagine him going on teaching once that commitment to Dumbledore has been fulfilled? People would still shun him on the street. There would always be rumors. Or worse yet... what if he was actually vindicated and made a hero... how could he resolve himself to that life with all the horrors he has committed over the years? Even if they were done For The Good -- he would still have to live with himself and his memories. How would he move on? Could anyone? How could he ever have a "normal" life? And how could anything close to "normal" ever appeal to him, after all he has seen and lived through? So yeah, I knew it had to happen. And I would have killed him off too, if I had I written the series.

As much as I know it has to happen, I can't bear to read it.

But so now I'm faced with this big two-part epic movie that is soon to start playing, and I know I won't be able to resist seeing it. And I guess I'd rather read the "true" account of the ending before I see the watered-down and probably very-much-changed version that will play on the big screen. So I can't put it off any longer.

So... before I kill off my Demon Lover in my mind (*sob*) I have pretty much just abandoned myself to Snape-centric fanfic for the past few months. So that I could get my fill of him. I have read everything I can find. I have reread all of my old favorites. I've even delved into some Snape/Hermione het. (Desperation) And yet, I'm still not ready. I guess I'm waiting for that one great fanfic that I haven't yet found.

The movie comes out on November 11th. I want to read the entire series again before I finally crack the last book. That means I am giving myself a deadline. Halloween. October 31st. That is when I guess I will put Snape to rest.

I would love some recs. If anyone sees this post, that is. I know it is hard to condense it down to a few, but what are your favorite Snape/Harry (yes, its my OTP) stories that you've ever read? The ones that you keep going back to again and again?

Just posting out of curiosity because I just got my spiffy new Kindle 2 from Amazon and after a week of frantic book downloading it finally occurred to me tonight... OMG fanfiction! LOL So I've spent the last couple of hours figuring out how to convert all my favorite fanfics to Kindle books!! (complete with fanart covers!! ) There is no way this should make me so joy-filled, but yet I AM. Pure GLEE, I'm telling you. Like a kid on a sugar high. And so now it has been so long since I've been part of this world that realized I have no one to GUSH over this with...

Does anyone out there have a Kindle?

Have you converted your favorite fanfics yet?

Do you want to trade files?

There is no way I have time to do this, but... I'm suddenly picturing a website of fics all formatted for easy download... would anyone want this except me?

What a weird way to get back into fandom.

Harry, my love, we both know it's been coming to this. I still care about you so much and what we've had together these past two years -- it's been one of the best experiences of my life. And I still think you are incredibly hot ~~(especially with Snape)~~. But I don't want our passion to slowly fizzle out to nothing -- we should just part now, as friends. Maybe we can have a few drinks and talk about old times and who knows where things will lead us? ...or maybe not. No pressure. We'll just wait and see what happens. LOL -- I realize I'm a dork. But I just wanted to make a post for anyone who still has me friended, and give a small update. I totally understand if anyone wants to take me off their list. So if you've been thinking of it but have been hesitant, now is the time to do it. I won't take it personally. I rarely post anymore and when I do, it's not often of HP-related content. RL is taking up so much of my life, and I read fic about once a week at most, skim my friends list maybe twice that much.

But I am still around, and I've been thinking I might just take back this journal for my own, non-fandom related thingie. Whatever that may be. hahahahaha So maybe some of you might want to stick around? Awesome. :) But either way, just wanted to say that I love you all.

And I'm still thinking I might go to Lumos next summer!

So... today is day one of my new plan to only allow myself 2 hours of computer time per day.

Two hours is still quite a lot, isn't it. You would think it wouldn't change things too much.
Ha.

Things I have managed to do since getting home from work today (after working 9.5 hours):

Go grocery shopping.

Cook a meal. With meat and vegetables and bread and stuff. And not even all in one dish!

Watch a movie.

Paint my toenails.

Wash two tubs of clothes.

o.O
And I still had my two hours online.

Aaaaand... I'm now going to go to bed before 11 pm!!!!!

5 idiosyncrasies

Pretty weird.
I reallly like this meme. I have so many idiosyncrasies, I could go for days listing them all. These are the first five that popped into my head.

1. I can't sleep at night unless my comforter is very neatly turned down, with the sheet folded down straight over it. It has to be the same amount on each side of the bed, and evenly folded. The sheets can't have wrinkles, loose corners, etc. I must have two pillows -- one thick and fluffy, one thinner and hard. The thin hard one goes on top. I never make up my bed during the day, but it has to be just so before I get in it or I will toss and turn all night.

2. I'm deathly afraid of anything with thin, membrane-like skin or webbing. Things like frilled lizards are the worst, but it also extends to a fear of moth wings, fins, or any type of flat fish. Even plants with large flat leaves give me chills. If something is flat and thin, the more fluidly it moves, the more it freaks me out. Or if it is so thin and crisp that it looks like it might break if you bent it? OMGJAKLJSKASDJ!! I have chills right now, trying to describe it. Sometimes just looking can make my eyes actually water.

3. When I eat a sandwich, I always eat the outside edges first, saving the juiciest middle bite for last. I can't do it any other way, and it always makes a horrible mess -- the last bite MUST have some of everything in it, and be the best one. Likewise, if I'm eating a meal with different side dishes, I have to eat them so that they all match up with exactly one bite of each to end with.

4. I can't listen to music if I'm doing anything else. It totally distracts me. I get into the music so hard that it's difficult for me to think of other things. This is really a problem at work, since we have satellite radio playing all of the time. I get odd looks when sometimes I blurt out something like "That's the third time they've played this same rotation today!" ahhahahaaa! Apparently no one else ever notices the music but me. On sunday afternoons when they play improvisational jazz, it makes me feel more than a little crazy. Seriously. I don't understand music that has no discernable rhythm or tune, so my mind spins even faster while trying to sort it out. I usually end up having a very bad headache on sunday afternoons.

5. I sometimes get patterns stuck in my head. Often it is something I've been repeating to myself over and over again for hours before I notice it. It may be a word that someone said that was highly unusual -- sometimes I'll realize I've been repeating it continuously and spelling it both forwards and backwards for hours unconsciously. I know it's fairly common to do this with songs, but I do it with just one line of a song. Or maybe it's a phrase or a string of words that appealed to me for some reason. Or a rhythm. I tend to make patterns with my toes, or sometimes by clenching and unclenching my jaw. If I realize I'm doing it and try to stop, I have to finish out the pattern first or I guess my brain would explode.

And a bonus one:
I have extremely weird dreams. They are often very detailed and symbolic and sound too fantastical to be real. I work out problems in my dreams. Sometimes its to very complex emotional situations, sometimes it's a project from work that's stumped me. I've written music in my sleep before. I can lucid dream -- if I like a dream, I can make myself continue it for the rest of the night. Or if I don't like it, I can usually change the outcome. I'm almost always aware that I'm dreaming. On rare occassions, I've been able to get into a half awake/half asleep state where I could actually describe outloud to someone else what I was dreaming, as it occurred. When I go to sleep, I usually go straight into REM sleep. I can doze off in about 60 seconds and if you wake me, I'll already be dreaming.

Katrina evacuees distraught over pets

ATLANTA (AP) — As Valerie Bennett was evacuated from a New Orleans hospital, rescuers told her there was no room in the boat for her dogs. She pleaded. "I offered him my wedding ring and my mom's wedding ring," the 34-year-old nurse recalled Saturday. They wouldn't budge. She and her husband could bring only one item, and they already had a plastic tub containing the medicines her husband, a liver transplant recipient, needed to survive.

Such emotional scenes were repeated perhaps thousands of times along the Gulf Coast last week as pet owners were forced to abandon their animals in the midst of evacuation.

In one example reported last week by The Associated Press, a police officer took a dog from one little boy waiting to get on a bus in New Orleans. "Snowball! Snowball!" the boy cried until he vomited. The policeman told a reporter he didn't know what would happen to the dog.

At the hospital, a doctor euthanized some animals at the request of their owners, who feared they would be abandoned and starve to death. He set up a small gas chamber out of a plastic-wrapped dog kennel.

"The bigger dogs were fighting it. Fighting the gas. It took them longer. When I saw that, I said 'I can't do it,'" said Bennett's husband, Lorne.

Please. If you only have $5 to give, everything helps. I've never begged for anyone to give money to a charity before in my life, but if you have a pet that you love or if you ever had one, please give just a little something in their honor.

I know I posted these links a couple of days ago, but this is information that needs repeating again and again. All of these organizations are helping right now to rescue pets in towns hit by the hurricane, and are in great need of donations. This is not just in New Orleans, but in Slidell and on the Mississippi coast, and anywhere there is a need. You can find out more information on what each group is doing by following the links.

With all the tragedy going on, we are not hearing very much about all the thousands (millions?) of pets that have had to be abandoned due to Hurricane Katrina. Many people in New Orleans that chose not to evacuate, did so just because they didn't want to abandon their pets -- they were rescued from their rooftops or waded through floods, with their pets in tow, to find shelter. But now many of them are being forced to just abandon their dogs and cats on I-10 as they board the buses to leave the city. There were pets left in flooded buildings and on rooftops when there was not enough room in the rescue boats. Some owners just turned their pets out to fend for themselves rather than leave them trapped in flooding buildings. One of the very first reports I heard on CNN and the one that has stayed with me the strongest was a audio-only report from the first night -- the reporter said that not only could you hear people yelling from their rooftops and attics to be rescued, but also crying and yelping animals that were stranded.

All of these organizations are begging for donations to help in the animal rescue efforts.
A different way for some of us to help. :)

A few people have asked, so I just wanted to post and let anyone that is worried know that yes, I'm safe from the hurricane. :) I'm actually far enough inland that my little town is classified as one of the closest "safe" places to the coast, so we were BOMBARDED today with all the coastal people who were forced to evacuate. It was amazing! There is even a red cross shelter on the road where I live. :D And it seems that all of them wanted to come to the bookstore or buy coffee, I think. hahahhaa Actually, I think my bookstore and Walmart were about the only places in town still open at 9pm. But anyway, they have forecast us to have about 60-70 mph winds that should hit here tomorrow afternoon, and of course lots of rain/thunderstorms. :P I'm expecting to be without power and all that routine, so I guess I will join the mass pilgrimage to the grocery store in the morning to stock up on candles, batteries and canned meats. heh

Medical Question

Is anyone out there a dr or nurse? Or know more about general medical stuff than I do?

It's just that I despise going. And I really don't even have a dr here since I moved, so I'd have to just go to a clinic or something. And god. I really don't feel like it. So I'm wondering if there is even any point in it now?

Also -- I have new insurance now and I can't find my insurance card. :/ I've never used it. I've looked everywhere. So no telling what kind of ordeal I'll have to go through to find out the info I need to become a new patient somewhere with new insurance. ugh.

I've been off work for the past two days with a very bad cold. I had a lot of chest congestion, but now it is actually coming up. Very much so. Especially if I stay still or lay down for more than 30 minutes. :P Sorry. But -- so do I need to go to the dr still if I'm having very productive coughing now? I feel a lot better today as far as that I dont think I have a fever anymore and I don't seem to be as achy and all as I was. I'm just weak still and of course have this bad cough, which I know is actually good.

So do I need to go the dr, even?

Before I was working, I would not have gone. But now I'm wondering if I went, would it make it clear up any faster, or would I be wasting my time and money? Is he just going to tell me to rest and drink lots of fluids? Because I'm already doing that. And I don't really need the excuse for work. But I can't really afford to be out any more days after today.

Sorry to bug my friends list for this. But I need someone to be "mom" and give me some advice. LOL

HBP Theories and Questions -- Please Respond

You know what's really bugging me this morning? How Dumbledore acted when Harry had not succeeded in getting that memory from Slughorn the first time. It's just nagging at me, like something there was not right. FIrst off, I don't see what the big deal was that Harry had to be the one to get that memory. You can't tell me that if it was that important, that in all those years Dumbledore couldn't have gotten it himself. And why was it so important anyway? Am I missing something? Dumbledore already knew that T. Riddle had asked about horcruxes... so I think he could guess what came next. It's not like he didn't know what they are himself.

It's really bothering me. When has Dumbledore ever acted like that before?

You know what it makes me think of? All of the ministry posters and pamphlets warning against people posing as others under polyjuice. Or people being under imperius. Why was all that stressed so much if it did not come into play again? Remember when Dumbledore told Harry that raspberry was his favorite jam? That doesn't seem like something that Rowling would have just thrown in whimsically.

It's also bothering me how Harry got so many parchments for his meetings with Dumbledore. Always hand-delivered, never sent by owl. Why? We know the owl mail was being searched with secrecy detectors... was there something going on here and this was a way to bypass security?

But who else could Dumbledore have been if he wasn't Dumbledore? Or who would have put him under Imperius?

My first thought, of course, is Snape. That Snape was the one pretending to be Dumbledore. But that doesn't work because Snape and Dumbledore are of course together in the tower scene.

What if the person Snape killed wasn't Dumbledore? What if Snape doesn't know it himself? Then that would mean that the person begging Snape might HAVE actually been begging for their life. And the real Dumbledore might still be alive -- if he had previously ordered Snape to kill him if it came to it, then someone else was disguising themself as him and Snape didn't know it -- that would release Snape from the unbreakable vow, right? So might Dumbledore have planned it all along?

Who would beg like that? Pettigrew, maybe?? Where did Pettigrew run off to after the Spinner's End chapter? Does it have anything to do with Dumbledore's withered hand and Pettigrew missing a hand?!! Are they the same one? Dumbledore never did tell us that his injury was definitely caused by that ring, did he? Didn't we all just jump to that conclusion on our own?

Something here is not right. I don't think this theory is either, I'm just trying to figure it out. But there has to be more than meets the eye in all of that.

Any ideas? Please. This is really driving me crazy.

I don't understand why Dumbledore needed Harry to retrieve that memory. Why couldn't he do it? Surely he could have persuaded Slugo. (Don't feel like looking up how to spell his name.) Or couldn't Snape have just leglimanced him? And Dumbledore knew what a horcrux was anyway. Why was it so important to see that memory? The fact that V asked about them seemed to be enough to me. Was it the number 7? Because how do we know he even finished making all 7 he asked about? I'm sure he wasn't planning on his spell backfiring when he tried to kill Harry, so really there is no way of knowing.

I wanted more zombies. ZOMBIES, DUDE! OmFreakingGOD! And someone PLEASE tell me that was not foreshadowing when Dumbledore told Harry not to be scared of a dead body, and that he is NOT going to be brought back. I can't deal with that.

I'm very disappointed in the Harry/Ginny pairing. Not because I'm against it, because it's sweet and all of that. And who else would she pair Harry with? Of course it has to be the little girl who first crushed on him. But... there is all this talk of how clever and funny Ginny is, but I never saw it. Why didn't she show us more? Why wasn't there more discussion of The Kiss? This was a Big Deal and it was really really skimmed over to me. I'm just disappointed.

I love that Bill was all mangled and is still adored by the most beautiful girl around. Yay! *points for Rowling*

Did anyone else notice how much note-passing there was going on? Everyone was constantly passing Harry scrolls. Does that mean anything?

Maybe Snape was not Snape. I mean -- LOL. Actually, I think he was. But I really expected someone to be polyjuiced more than just Crabbe and Goyle. All of the posters by the Ministry and pamphlets about asking secret questions, then the big vat of the stuff that Slugo made on the first day of class... ?

Ok. So -- Pettigrew was in the very first chapter of the book, but never reappeared. That is strange to me and felt unfinished. Why was he in Snape's house? I'm a little confused.

Wasn't there a mysterious locket in the Black house that no one could open? (This fact brought up to me by my sister -- I'd completely forgotten it.) Could that be the missing horcrux and RAB be Regulus? I wonder if Mundungus and his sticky fingers are going to come into play with that? Or Kreacher, maybe?

Didn't Harry stash the potions book in the same cabinet that the DE's used to break into the castle? That has to mean something or else it would not have been mentioned, right? Or am I remembering wrong?

If you think Snape betrayed everyone, you are insane. It was obvious from the 2nd chapter of the book which side he was on. I don't think he had any idea what Draco's mission was, and was bluffing his way through to try and find out. And there is no way Dumbledore would demand that Harry promise to desert him if he gives the order and save himself when they went to find the horcrux, but then turn around and beg Snape for his life. He was begging Snape to kill him. To keep Draco from having to do it and to secure his position as V's right hand man. I think Dumbledore was already dying anyway, but that's a whole nother point. And also, there was a reason Dumbledore petrified Harry -- he knew he would try to intervene. And he needed him to stay out of it and to witness it also. Everyone will have to think Snape is a traitor or all of it will be of no consequence.

I LOVE SEVERUS OMG. I loved him and his big ugly nose and his greasy hair from the start and now I love him more and YES! He is going to redeem himself in the end, if only to Harry, and martyr himself for the cause. alskdjflaksdjalksldfj And he will die without ever gaining recognition, but will finally forgive himself for all he did and this is turning into such a fangirly squee that I think I should probably stop. *shifty eyes*

Ok. I wish everyone would just take a tiny little break with all the spoilers and stuff because I HAVEN"T HAD TIME TO FINISH THE BOOK YET. *sob* It sucks to work at a bookstore and want to read it so much, but you can't because you have to work a ton of hours past the exhaustion point because everyone ELSE has Harry Potter mania. Now that really *is* irony.

Anyway.... I miss my friends list! And I can't read anyone's entries or even look at anyone's art because they all have spoiler warnings. And even the posts that are about other stuff seem to have multiple cut tags in one entry and even if only ONE of them has a spoiler, I can't click to read anything on the post. And now I'm paranoid because I clicked on something totally un-HBP related last night and there everyone was, discussing stuff in the comments that I didn't know yet! Goddamnit!

I mean -- I'm already very spoiled. (heh. I've been wanting to say that.) But I don't want to know every damn thing.

So I guess that means I'm going to have to take a lj hiatus until I finish the book. :(

This thing that aggravates me the most is that I do *want* to read all of your posts and thoughts on the book, but by the time I get back they are going to be off my flist. So then what... I'd have to go to each of your journals to read your most recent posts? Yeah. Like that's going to happen. So I just get to miss everything. Yay.

Dude. I just found out we're about to get hit by a hurricane. O___O

The only reason I found out was because my boss called to let me know that they were shutting down the store and not opening until noon or later tomorrow, and in process of covering all the windows in plastic. Woah. We NEVER close.

Guess I should like... turn on the tv sometimes.

Why does everyone think that the Half-blood Prince is a character we already know, and not a new one to be introduced in this book? Because you know -- I think it will be. I mean, look at the previous book titles -- they are all about something new to be introduced in that particular book. That's the whole point of the story. Why would this one be any different?

And... did Rowling make a statement that a character would definitely die in this one, or are we all jumping to conclusions?

On an unrelated note, Adrien Brody is the sexiest man I've ever seen.
What in the world is it that makes me lust after a big snoz?? Is it some unconscious phallic thing?

Although the temptation is unbelievable.

Anyway, these are spoilers I found from actually searching online. No telling if they are true or not, but that just makes it more fun to me. LOL I don't actually want anything substantiated, I just want to gossip. *g* It's sort of like shaking your Christmas presents and trying to figure out what's inside... I never actually wanted to sneak and OPEN them, just try my best to catch a peek under the tape! hehehee

I'm sure everyone that is looking for them has probably read the spoilers posted at Snapetoy's Spoiler Zone. But I was just looking around online, and found this article:

Betting Patterns Point to Potter Leak

This article was posted in MAY, but I never heard anything about it! Did I miss something? LOL!

It says that there is an online website taking bets on "who is the half-blood prince" and "who will be killed", and they were basically flooded with bets from the small town of Bungay, where all the previous books were printed, and all for the maximum bid and the same names. There had been previous spoilers from there on Order of the Phoenix when someone actually managed to smuggle a few pages out! hahahhaaaa

So anyway -- what did they bet on?

The half-blood prince: Dean Thomas
The person who dies: Dumbledore

Woah.

Oh. And post here if you've heard any other rumors!

Usually I hate reading spoilers and am one of those that would NEVER read the last page of a book first, but this time? Totally. Isn't that weird???

nights_nothings -- if you haven't seen it yet, it is an ongoing role-playing thingie between Snape (switchknife) and Harry (atrata) that is already looking to be very good. And hot.

There has been so much new Snarry recently! I have so much to read! Yay!

Two recent recs:
Tempus Fugit by marksykins, NC-17 -- What do you get when you combine Snape, Harry, restraints, and a small dose of veritaserum? Porn! What else? ;)

Move by atrata, NC-17. Harry begs Snape to teach him discipline. Mmmmhmmmm. How could that *not* be good?
