am i ever going to be able to buy this book?
1. LET US COMPARE MYTHOLOGIES by Cohen, Leonard, Illustrated by Guttman, Freda Montreal: Contact Press, 1956 First Edition. Signed by Author. The first volume of the McGill Poetry Series, and the rare first volume by one of the Exceptional Voices of our age. One of about 200 copies printed, this copy signed by Leonard on the front endpaper--an old signature in fountain pen. Black cloth, line drawings by Guttman, pp.79. The delicate kraft coloured jacket has had some professional restoration work to bring it back to Near Fine Condition. Cohen has continued, through near half a century since this debut, to be an innovator of international importance and is likely to be amongst the immrltal poets of our century. I consider this to be the most collectible volume of 20th century Canlit. Whether cloistered or wandering, Cohen continues to speak propetic volumes as he wanders through our time. (Keywords: GUTTMAN, FREDA OH CANADA-- FICTION & NON) The price of the book is US$ 1650.00 Quality scans available on request.

grargh.
am i ever going to reach this book? maybe i should've caved when i found a copy for $35...garh.
this, along with some stray brautigan books, and a certain patti smith title, have been my goose hunt for years now.
/
it's funny, though--one brautigan book in particular...the price flucuates so. i've had offers of copies of please plant this book, the one poem published on seed packets in bulk for something like $7.00...then the next day i get mail about how "there's a copy at last!" and it's "only $900.00!" funny.
and i still get a kick out of knowing my first-edition brautigan books only cost me fifty cents per book, in some antique store where the owner didn't know who brautigan was. they were tucked away on a modest little bookshelf, sitting alongside 1970s cook books and danielle steele romance novels. woo.
