sleepy. met rob at the low show, which was quite enjoyable. he has a friend martin who has a great sense of humor--something i miss alone here sometimes. labradford sounded like music you would lay in bed in the dark listening to, dreaming of tides and surf and mismatched displaced beach boys humming. that's just me. anyway, and...low was very good. i love mimi's voice too much. surprisingly perhaps, there was quite a bit of onstage joking; it was fun. robert mentioned built up waves of sound, crescendos in their live performances; i tend to agree. it was lovely lovely.
afterwards rob and martin showed me a bit of cmu, and then we realized rob would either have to walk home or wait until 6am for the buses to start working. ee. we talked and talked and talked some more. law of the excluded middle, did i get that right? interesting. poor fourth graders, again. and...what else. oh yeah. (laughing) rob thinks cat power's good, but she's not yet grown comfortable or fitting in the live set of things because she's so "spacey." and, he doesn't get the hype over guided by voices. la.
the second volume of the shanti project, which i picked up after the show, is really good. i'm still kind of surprised melissa auf der maur closes the set, what with the artists mainly composing it (rebecca gates, kristin hersh, julie doiron, edith frost, and mimi parker, among others...mark eitzel also makes a guest appearance). but, it would be worth the price alone for the three julie doiron songs. she's a beautiful person, i can only imagine. i'm always restartled.
and yes, they sell low pillowcases. (giggle) another thing we discussed was disgust over scenes and tradeoff points for "indie rock cred." tongue in cheek, of course. of course.
i'm rather tired. i'll finish studying for today and make some more soup. these acts seem to fill my days up with smoke, at least lately.
i'm missing people.
and i'm slightly uneasy, slightly worried about justin. um, where are you? i just want to know you're okay. also want to know about this collaborative effort, how it's coming along.
such a dopey post. forgive.
