i'm eating a second breakfast out of nervousness and need for energy (strange, i know) and i need to leave for this linguistics exam in about an hour. i'm jittery, unsure of my capabilities. reviewing the sapir-whorf hypothesis to get myself revved up enough to write a couple essays on relativism. the chapter in the foley book concerning color left me quite a bit to think about, and...mm. i don't know, i just don't.
i know myth has some very strong reactions to relativism and the notion of linguistic determinism. hm...
on a somewhat unrelated note, has anyone tried these things, my mom sent a few, these milk n' cereal bars? they're very new and somehow bizarre to me. this is one of those times i wish i had a scanner to show you...the wrapper exclaims this little packaged bar has "the nutrition of a bowl of cereal with milk!" and that the filling is "made with real milk!" hmmm...there's this line of filling in the center, and it's like creamy candied milk. i don't know what to make of this. and the fact that we as a people might be gettin' too lazy, or too busy, or whatever (they are more positively related/correlated than people think) to fix a bowl of cereal in the morning...so that we demand such a product is. hgrrm. american consumption, ah.
