absolution sleepy woke

Listens: "this mess we're in" (pj harvey and thom yorke)

now that i'm sufficiently freaked out for the day #2

so i'm only now listening to stories from the city, stories from the sea and...it startles me how much pj harvey's singing is reminiscent of patti smith. i mean, before there was influence, and from all sorts of people, but...wow. so much, now. it could be patti smith almost. my.

i looped the album and woke up to the first track, "big exit;" it's nudging to apocalyptic desire or something. heady, dizzy. hm...i'm blaming it for the scary-sinister, dangerous dreams i had last night. :)

at first, i thought i was listening to kim gordon or...or some kathleen-hanna-inspired indie punk girl. i don't even know who i thought it was.

and even in lyrics, it's wow. "kamikaze"--the whole thing sounds like something from peace and noise...that one, "then you took the cat by the tail...and johnny never went marching home" etc. everything! the guitar and rhythm and and...

well, until she lets out a pj harvey trademark yowl. :)
