30 Day Song Challenge Day 16 – A song that you used to love but now hate
Can’t think of any offhand but the reverse is easy: stuff from Fleetwood Mac. Used to despise them, particularly Stevie Nicks, and then I dunno what happened. I got kinda soft about ‘70s California...
Actually, yes I can think of some. My first bought-myself music tape in middle school was Jane's Addiction, no really. And I used to like Offspring (Smash-era of course, given my age) and then years later I see the "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" video and just shudder. And I had Goo Goo Dolls tapes because hell, when you're as close as I was to Buffalo it's just what you did (along with Ani). And Green Day, and I was thinking it was cool I had the stuff before Dookie of course. Ha!
And I owned a Phish album because this guy I had a ginormous crush on was obsessed with them. He predictably knew how to ride a unicycle; later he went to summer camp with my sister. (This is making me miss Ms. McCallum!)
I also liked that band that did "Galaxie" later before the lead guy overdosed, I forget their name. I wonder if I'd still not mind them or not...hm.
I had a Cranberries album or two.
Oh man, I just remembered the number one pick. I love love LOVED Rage Against the Machine (the Barbara Kruger fandom helped a little, I guess). And Weezer--I had a crush on fuckin' Rivers Cuomo (before his pinkerton ass creepy tendencies bled out), I remember talking to my boyfriend about it. Like a lot. Like print-their-lyrics-out-and-tape-them-to-y our-bedroom-door stuff. I dislike both of them now. I also had a crush on Adam Yaunch (sp?) from the Beastie Boys. And I liked Tool and Nine Inch Nails and Filter and, IIRC, Prick (Ruby too, but I still like her).
Dirty laundry! I did not however ever go in for Pearl Jam, Metallica, Stone Temple Pilots at the time, Silverchair, Candlebox, that other band that I always get confused with Candlebox...Collective Soul that's it, the Lemonheads, Hootie and the Blowfish, Blues Traveler, Live, Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or any of those goofy-upbeat-one-hit-early-'90s-type bands (Presidents of the USA, Tripping Daisy, Moxy Fruvous, No Doubt, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Barenaked Ladies, Crash Test Dummies, etc., etc.). It made being in school pretty sucky because EVERYBODY liked them and wouldn't stop talking about them, ugh. That and shitty radio pop ska. Also never got into that early '90s Lilith Fair-type singer-songwriter craze (I still don't get Sarah McLachlan like at all, that Meredith Brooks song never did it for me, and Paula Cole annoys the heck out of me). Though, I didn't mind Sheryl Crow (I still have that break-through album somewhere, even) and at first (and I was pretty young I remember...middle school?) I dug Alanis Morrisette (sp?). And I find it funny that lately a whole slew of stuff I hated when it was played 250 times a day on the radio when I was a teen I don't mind at all now (see: TLC, Salt n Pepa, aforementioned Stone Temple Pilots, Jon Secada even!, etc.).
