i find it shocking i don't have a headache right now. then again, it was something like 8 hours...
repetitive eh: "had so much fun yesterday." it was the springiest day, warm and sunny with literal birds and bees everywhere, and R and i checked out that mysterious soul food lunch counter i read about on urbanspoon. turns out it's actually inside a gas station, not a bare bones paynes-esque actual counter/booth. (amoco food express, 630 s. third st. if anyone local is curious.) um, the reviewer online was not kidding. it was perfect soul food, so comforting and tasty you just sigh while eating it. we took our very cheap and huge meals--about 5 bucks each for a weighed down big box filled with an entree, 2 veg. sides, and big hunks of cornbread down by the river and lunched while watching kids "sled" down hills and fly star-shaped rainbow kites. the cornbread was perfect complete with that crust i care so much about and a big toothy crumb, and we had noodles in a rich gravy with beef and stew veggies, a fried pork chop, spinach with bacon, lima beans, freakin' delicious potatoes with onions (mysterious that way soul food is to me, where the seasoning is so good but i can't figure out why, seems pretty simple, like alcenia's green beans), peas cooked until falling apart (always seems it will be gross but orangette molly turned me on to how actually they're quite good that way), texas sheet cake with chocolate frosting. so great. thennn around 3 i headed over to bosco's because gary (insanely well dressed gary, ee) had the idea (or tradition i guess at this point) of getting folks together early before the 5pm crowd glutted all bars in midtown. it felt naughty to drink stout in broad daylight, but it was fun and i wound up chatting up people for way longer than expected. a friend's show was going on later that night so i knew i'd meet up with R eventually, but some of us wound up barcrawling (something i've never actually done) and the next thing i know it's 10pm and i'm on the patio of the nearby gay bar admiring drag queens and getting embarrassingly lovey-dovey when emily shows up. oops. but it really was fun. i've never just whiled away an entire afternoon/evening out with friends with nothing to do but roam, talk, and drink beer. it felt like some kind of lost opportunity i patched or something.
