"a gentle giraffe in a tall boy that will knock you out."
had so much fun last night. i was a little nervous, worrying that picking 3 angels would be anticlimactic but everything people say about the bartender there is true--he's great, knows his shit, chatty but not typically fake-friendly (his cursing out bad distributors made me laugh), believes in doing all his own homemade infused syrups for the week and ades and all that goof stuff. must remember his ginger french 75 with the unusual addition of orange curacao. was tasty. so was his cucumber version. he even made me an old fashioned (i always feel like an ass ordering one out because they're finicky so i never do but he didn't seem to mind at all, even topped me off with more ice as the evening wore on) and let me peruse his copy of the savoy cocktail book (!). then he got out his crate of vinyl because mark inquired and we listened to whipped cream and other delights which was great because it's an album everyone's seen the kitschy cover art for online or in silly collector photo books but never actually listened to, y'know? seemed appropriately festive.
and "i KNOW!"ing about downton abbey, hee.
i was so happy when dana left saying repeatedly she loved the place and couldn't wait to come back. success! felt weirdly proud for picking it.
(i still think americanos are better than negronis though. i know, i don't get it either. on paper it don't make sense, but there it is.)
