the fact i am all WTF at how many people are rooting for Mary (and Matthew, who is an enormous disappointment to me and has been ever since he mentioned Edith dismissively like it was a total given) on downton abbey is yet another sign/reminder i don't have the default receiving brain culture seems to assume. huh.
and people acting like what Edith does is on the same level as what Mary does. when every sorrow Mary has is directly a case of "you made your bed, lie in it", the result of very active, direct decision-making. Edith never has a chance to even make decisions and Mary just throws hers away. not the same thing at all.
