Robert called on his lunch break to sing "You Are So Beautiful" to me, which is a bit of an inside joke because we were just talking about how the only version I ever hear in my head is Marge singing to Homer or whatever. It was cute too because for a moment he got interrupted by a student and I could hear him being all teacher-y, ha.
He also let me rant tipsily over the weekend after watching Five Easy Pieces. I think he was even bothering to listen to me do so! To be fair, I warned him I probably would. I mean Jack Nicholson fer chrissakes; he knows how I feel there (vaguely like Michael Douglas, eh). It was more interesting to talk about afterward than I expected, with its moments, but I still found it irksome. Think that might've been inevitable. One surprise was how much it evoked childhood summer and fall visits to Vermont; the woman in it resembled my parents' friend and hostess Bette right down to the blowsy ash blonde hair, rigid cheekbones, and showy teeth. And going into the village to do some shopping, those exact words yes. And just the creaky-classy interior decor and pastoral sleepy creepiness and ensuing restlessness, the feel.
