My name is Steven Nicholas Colborne and I'm an author of philosophical theology books, articles and essays based in London. The son of an English father and a Dutch mother, I was born in Cambridgeshire and grew up in Abingdon in Oxfordshire in the South East of England.

In my youth I developed a passion for music and was a guitarist and songwriter in several bands, most prominently Marconi's Voodoo, a progressive metal band who enjoyed some success on the UK music scene.

My passion for music followed me to university, where I studied a BA (Hons) degree in Commercial Music. After graduating with first class honours, I began a career in the music industry where I worked for Beggars Group and Motion Group in promotion and marketing roles.

Mental health problems in my twenties led to an admission to psychiatric hospital, and during my stay on a hospital ward I read the Bible and became a Christian. I embarked upon an active Christian life, being involved with various churches and getting baptised. I returned to university to study Philosophy and Religion and began writing extensively about matters of philosophy and theology, both on my blog Perfect Chaos and in various books which I self-published and self-promoted.

In addition to my written work, I also undertook several roles in the charity sector, including working as a street fundraiser for Greenpeace, an office administrator for Age UK Oxfordshire, and a Befriending Coordinator for Imagine Independence.

I continued to experience mental health difficulties in my thirties leading to further hospital admissions, but also recorded an album of experimental music in 2018 and continued to write and self-publish books, enjoying some success as a writer of philosophical theology on the independent publishing scene.

In 2023 I suffered a suicide attempt which resulted in a critical spell in intensive care, but after making a good recovery I focused once again on my creative endeavours, releasing a ‘best of’ album of Marconi's Voodoo recordings and starting a Substack publication called Reflections with the aim of sharing inspirational articles about faith and mental health. I also underwent training to become a counsellor.

In 2025 I released a new book titled Reflections: Enlightening Insights Into the Divine Mystery which offers readers an opportunity to consider the nature, activity and purposes of God from a panentheistic perspective (a free sample chapter from the book can be viewed by clicking here).

Since I read the Bible my ultimate aim in life has been to obey the two greatest commandments of which Jesus spoke: ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind, and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself’.
