ince 7AM its gone from 49F to 36F in 4 hours with winds picking up to low ferocity. Good thing is that the rain stopped , no snow forcast, and the roads will hopefully dry before the freeze comes.

The pond ice will be thick enough to ice skate.

We got maybe 5" of snow. I shoveled for an hour; RP for around 2. We're, I want to say, 3/4 done with everything. But with the freezing rain bouncing around, a lot of what we've done will need to be re-covered. But at least it won't be as heavy as it could be.

Tomorrow, our only outside task is to bring the recycling bin back from the curb. We may draw straws on that. Current temp is 25F. Supposed to be going down to +5F tonight.

One of my Austrian sisters-in-law had her 60th birthday last week. Neighbours, family and relatives had arranged her birthday party in this Alpine mountain hut, a few kilometres away from her home

They had to cancel it, because ...

... but did an outdoor party, all with snow-shoes, because of 1, 30 m snow even in the village.

(They showeled for three weeks several hours per day at home. One niece couldn't work several days: she couldn't get out of her village.)

Lovely. That's the reason I love living in Northern California's Silicon Valley; our moderate climate is best suited for my retirement years. I remember digging out of the snow when we lived in Naperville, IL. My age and health is not capable of that kind manual labor. Sunnyvale, CA: High of 77, and low of 40 degrees F. In addition to the ideal climate, our city is considered one of the safest in the country.

Sarasota, FL reporting in. Down here I haven’t worn socks, long pants or long-sleeves in a long time ... perhaps since last January. Even at that time, it was only for a few days. At night I break down and wear socks when going out on the town - just socks! 🏌️‍♂️

We're going through a heat wave at the moment. It's been in the high 30's every day for a while now and today we were expecting 40 degrees (104 F) but it's already 42 (107.6) and it's only just after 12.30pm. It's also very windy.
We've been warned that today is potentially the worst day for bushfires since the devastating ones in 2009. And to make it just a little bit worse we're expecting thunderstorms later today which brings the possibility of lightening strikes.

OUCH! I used to live in Sacramento, and worked in the hop fields in my youth to harvest them in the hot sun @ 111 degree. I now life in the San Francisco Bay Area, and love it here. It's year round moderate climate.

I can't even imagine working outside in that sort of heat. Opening the back door is like opening an oven, the heat just hits you.
We got to 45, 113F, before the clouds came over and it's now plummeted to 36. To be honest I can't feel that much difference yet.

Tuesday and Wednesday, the temperature was 3 degrees (F, I don't know what that is in centigrade, and frankly don't care). Yesterday, it hit 43 degrees F. Right now, the temperature is 28 degrees--four degrees below freezing, and has been dropping slowly but steadily since yesterday.
