I'll exclude Croyan from the question (he's my own protagonist), and I think I'll just list some progressive characters (in no particular order):

1) Luke Skywalker.
2) Daniel Craig's Bond
3) Beatrix Kiddo.
4) Nicole Des Jardin (the Rama series)
5) Sarah Connor
