Wow! look at this Christmas cake!


It's too pretty to eat.

Some lovely cakes and biscuits on offer, ff, especially the cream cheese cookies - they look delicious.



Personally, I prefer savoury snacks to sweet things. This savoury seafood platter looks tasty .....


I'm afraid that I don't like the traditional Christmas foodstuffs very much - Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, mince pies, Yule logs - they don't tempt me at all. My only Christmas 'likes' are Stollen cakes - properly made, they are divine!



Do you have any favourite foods at this time of year? Or any particular favourites as far as Christmas music is concerned? If I must listen to 'Christmas music', then I'm quite fond of the corny oldies like Little Drummer Boy - I like this version -

Must admit it - that looks absolutely wonderful!

Gained 20 pounds just looking at the delicious holiday treats. Need some more and then some!

(by the way, is it strange that I have always liked the traditional fruitcake?)

and a good Panettone....if it has chocolate in it, that's a plus


Egg nog always upsets my stomach, but I love egg nog flavored and rum raisin flavored ice cream.



I don't know that I associate any "real food" with Christmas. Maybe a good prime rib, or a roast duck in orange sauce, since that's what I've usually made.


Those seafood snacks look good, vonny. Ummmm....they taste good too.

Traditional fruitcake?

Actually, I googled traditional fruitcake images out of curiosity - and look what I got! I thought this one was hugely amusing - just imagine having to cut into it or dig one's teeth into a leg!! Yikes!

Oh no Foundy - wish you hadn't said that! I have horrid visions of poor little elves being roasted alive! Help!

Not sure yet what our main meal will be on Christmas Day - might have crab this year, or lobster.

I'd love to have lobster. But I refuse to throw a live lobster into boiling water. I usually get my lobsters already steamed at the fish market or the supermarket, and I'm rather sure that on Christmas they are both closed.

But, you've given me a great idea for New Years--either New Year's eve or New Years day--because those places are open then. I love lobster and champagne.


I love crab, haven't had any in ages. Might get some of that too.

I couldn't kill anything - but I do love seafood. I buy mine ready prepared - supermarket, alas, but still tasty. Crab is supposed to be extra good here at the moment. Might buy that frozen - must look round today.

The idea of lobster or crab with salad certainly appeals to me more than the traditional turkey, roast potatoes, brussels sprouts and so on. My one abiding memory of Christmas as a child was feeling bloated after enormous Christmas meals - sigh!

Sigh! Only at Christmas, well that's when it's available - Crayfish that is, and we have to have ourselves some! It's only once a year, that will be our lunch... But, Christmas Eve, we are having Turkey, D's cooking, I know it will be good! Looking forward to a traditional meal even if it's the night before...

Isn't it marvellous to sit in the corner listening to some well-to-do refined and estimable ladies chit-chatting about nom-nommie nom noms and any other extraneous topics that pop into their lovely little heads.

What fortunate creatures they are.

It's great! And, of course, it's great to have a miserable old codger in the corner - looking over his pint glass, making sour comments! Merry Christmas, dear Spendius!
