Have you eaten bugs (intentionally not accidentally swallowed while riding a bike)?

Would you eat insects if you knew they were clean and prepared safely and appropriately?

Chocolate covered grasshoppers or ants? A termite burrito? Locusts a la mode? Etc...?

I'd give it a shot, not from a street cart vendor, but a brick and mortar store IF it was cheap and received reviews from say Time Out NY or NY Magazine.

My great aunt tried chocolate covered grasshoppers. I'd try them first if I could. Razz

Yes, I probably would.
Particularly if there was a plague of them at the time. That would be a good solution to a big problem.
And if the dish was prepared by a brilliant master chef! Smile

Not me, I like watching that show on the discovery channel called survivor man but it grosses me out at some of the things he eats.

Back about 45 years ago, raising earthworms was a big deal at least in Corpus Christi, where I lived. They had contests for who could submit the best recipes for eating them. I toyed with the idea of raising some, but not eating any.

There was an Australian TV series called "Bush Tucker Man".
I'll see if I can find him on YouTube.
He really enjoyed witchedy grubs (sp?).
Considered a delicacy by Australian aborigines.

Edgar, I can see how people can be fooled into eating worms by having it as the foundation of a cake or similar baked dessert. Just don't tell me until after I've eaten a couple of slices.

He's a clip from Bush Tucker Man.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a video of him eating a live grub, or some such creature or bug, with great relish, but this'll give you some idea of the sort of thing he got up to..
No need to try to watch the whole video.
I wasn't a great fan, myself.
A bit too much of a rugged ocker for my liking.
And I do wish he'd worn longer shorts! Razz



OK, back to eating bugs now ...

I watched Bear Grylls in Man Vs Wild eat grubs and other bugs. I refuse to eat them live and kicking [PERIOD] Exclamation

If I'm going to partake, they'll be cooked and mostly unrecognizable.
