You are Beautiful.

- The chest-constricting chords and melody which coincide with 'you can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life' in the song 'Dancing Queen'.
- The behaviour of the New Zealand Fantail.
- Sounds which have been electronically manipulated so that the attack is delayed. Likethis.
- Those little white spots you get in your fingernails.
- The inside of an orange.
- The scent of woodsmoke on a chilly summer's evening out of the way from the rest of the world.
- No fireworks at midnight on the 1st of January.
- The experience of the Tongariro Crossing and the view of the Emerald Lakes.
- My dusty childhood collection of Dinosaurs! magazines.
- An unusual display of solid determination and survival of the fittest.
- The way a person's eyes and hair define them.
- Finally mustering up the courage to write down an intimate secret and show it to the person concerned
- A rainy day when you're snuggled indoors.
- The simplest, simplest things in life. Minimalism.
(23/08/09)
- The state of not quite understanding everything, and having at least something to mull over.
- There's a small bit of graffiti somewhere in the Wellington CBD saying something along the lines of
There is no Revolution
Without Sexual Revolution
And there is no Sexual Revolution
Without Queer Revolution.
I thought I'd just have you know that I kissed it. :X *crazy woman*

- The key of C# minor. See: Rachmaninov's Prelude in C# minor, Op. 3 no. 2; Beethoven's 'Quasi Una Fantasia' (a.k.a 'Moonlight Sonata'. Not a name that he gave to that piece.) This is my favourite key. I don't know whether it's the keyboard fingering - balancing on the edge of the black keys with the occasional slip onto the white keys - or the emotion it rings, I just adore it so much.
- Church modes. Especially the ambiguity of the Phrygian mode (E to E, all white keys) and the surprise factor of Mixolydian (G to G, white keys).

- I saw a beautiful view from Khandallah over Wellington tonight; the outlines of the Rimutaka mountains in different shades of bluey-grey, speckled with streetlights in the Hutt and Petone. Before it stretched the harbour and, looking down from above, offset to the left, was the full moon.
If I'd had the camera with me...I'd have been perfectly willing to hop off the bus right then and there to take a snapshot and walk up the hill back home.
Even if I had...I probably would have ended up with a blurry photograph because my hands are never steady.
But it was so gorgeous that I've committed that moment to memory.
I've had one of those 'must take photograph but can't' moments before; on the East Coast, 31st December 2005.
There was the most gorgeous sunset playing against the clouds, and I knew it was the last sundown of the year. It took my breath away, but we were on the road and the light was fading fast.
Instead, I took a photograph with my mind and the moment has stayed with me ever since.

- On Friday night, I went to the Westpac Stadium for a rehearsal and I had to walk over the huge walkways they need when the crowds come in. It was a massive landscape of concrete desolation and the wind was just bellowing through. But all I could feel was this overwhelming sensation of freedom.
- I was sleepless on Saturday night/Sunday morning and I found this trans-girl's video blog. I cannot even begin to summarise how happy hearing about stories like hers makes me. They make me desperately want to find myself for good, and inspire me. She's such an amazing and beautiful person.

- Love Exposure. I love this movie. It's thought-provoking, it's riveting, it's exhilarating, it's beautiful, it's sexy, it's sickening. I can't really describe it properly in words, you really need to just watch it. All I know is that it's one of my favourite films, and those are the ones which have a huge impact on me and stick with me forever.
Others in that category: Heavenly Creatures, for its disturbing side and beautiful obsession.
The History Boys, for its literary brilliance and the breaching of strange ideas.
...Hot Fuzz, because it's fucking hilarious.

I'll be adding to this every now and then.

You can tell that I've updated because what I'm listening to will change! Yes, I really do have to be that obscure.
Also - I'm so very tempted to put my favourite pieces of MUSIC in here as well, but that's for a separate post. There's too much to say about each individual piece I love.
