WordPress Block Theme Starter

Don't start
by clearing up.

Abira is a minimal WordPress block starter theme. Instead of removing what someone else put there first, build your own design on a truly clean foundation.

Picking a theme usually starts with subtraction.

Install a feature-heavy theme and the first job is disabling what you don't use, peeling back overridden styles, and getting back to your own design. You meant to build a foundation, but spend the time tidying up.

Abira takes the opposite approach. Nothing is there to begin with. A clean theme.json, organized templates, just enough patterns. From here, you only add. A starting point for builders — think Breeze or Jetstream for WordPress.

What's inside the starter

A clean foundation

A designed theme.json (v3) and a tidy set of templates. Core patterns are not bundled, so you begin from a blank slate.

Accessibility-ready

Built with WCAG 2.2 AA in mind: semantic HTML5, visible focus, reduced-motion support. Verified with NVDA.

System fonts only

Zero external web font requests. Fast to load, with no layout shift.

Style variations

Beyond the default, it ships with Primary (classic deep colors) and Nordic (fjord-inspired tones).

Four style variations: Default, Primary, Nordic, and Dusty Rose — each with distinct accent colors

Block styles

Practical styles not in core, like Outline for Button and Wavy for Separator, registered and ready.

Translation-ready

All text is internationalized. A languages folder is included, ready as a base for multilingual sites.

Three templates, one clean system

Every template shares the same restrained typography and spacing. Here's what Abira looks like out of the box, on a fresh WordPress install.

Posts page — a simple, readable list

See it. Touch it.

Abira boots up inside WordPress Playground. No install, just a browser. Opens in a new tab.
