Nan’s writing gets better and better. She doesn’t duck the hard stuff. She isn’t afraid to explore the difficult parts of her life and the painful truths about herself, and in the process, she finds herself changing. Hers is an authentic, vulnerable and honest voice we can learn from. I highly recommend Nan’s The Next Write Thing.
Estellle's knowledge of the craft of writing is encyclopedic, but her advice and suggestions are so simply put, a reader has no trouble understanding and metabolizing different approaches. Did I forget to mention she is herself a marvelous writer? She is a marvelous writer.
Compassion, curiosity, encouragement, and I hesitate to use the word wisdom, because all I see is an owl, but wisdom, all expressed the most delicately tough beautiful writing.
Kris Pavek's substack should be required reading. She is resourceful without resources; she is generous, she is kind and she is angry, but not on her own behalf, her anger is directed at pettiness, thoughtlessness, and cruelty; she finds humor in unlikely places, in fact for her, humor and hardship seem to go hand in hand. There is a lot more to know about this country, and she is one hell of a teacher, whether she means to be or not. Subscribe. She can also really write.
